PM's tour was 'secret trip to Russia'

The reason for Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's mysterious 10-hour disappearance from the media radar on Monday was a clandestine trip to Russia, according to a report Wednesday by the Hebrew language daily Yediot Aharonot.

Mystery surrounds reported 'secret Netanyahu visit to Russia'

Israel Radio reported that Netanyahu leased a private jet since he knew using an Israel Air Force jet would raise the suspicions of the Israeli media.

For the purpose, his office used a plane of the company Merhav, a company owned by Israeli mogul Yossi Miman, one of the shareholders of Channel 10 and EMG, an Egyptian company supplying gas to the Israel Electric Company. Miman was not directly involved in leasing the jet, as this was done through a company he owns.

The PMO and Merhav refused to divulge the cost of the flight. Israel Radio further reported that the plane took off from a terminal in Ben Gurion International Airport which is mostly out of use.

The Prime Minister's Office would neither confirm nor deny whether Netanyahu visited Moscow.

However, the Kremlin press service said Wednesday that "nothing is known" about reports of the visit. Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, also said he had no information, the Interfax news agency reported.

Throughout Monday, the PMO, when asked about Netanyahu's whereabouts, said only that he was on a tour. After hours of speculation, and numerous inquiring phone calls, the PMO finally released the following laconic statement Monday evening: "The Prime Minister's military attaché reports that the prime minister is visiting a security installation inside Israel."

Netanyahu was accompanied to the installation by National Security Adviser Uzi Arad and the military attaché, Meir Kalifi, according to the statement.

However, a trip by the prime minister to Russia may not be an impromptu decision, as there was already speculation during Netanyahu's tour of Europe two weeks ago that he would visit Russia ahead of the United Nations General Assembly meeting at the end of this month.

Interestingly, almost exactly two years ago, then-prime minister Ehud Olmert paid a lightning visit to Moscow to meet with then-Russian president Vladimir Putin, a day after the Russian leader returned from a trip to Teheran in which he warned outside powers not to attack Iran and said there was no evidence it was developing nuclear arms.

Back then, the PMO tried to disconnect Olmert's trip from Putin's statements in Iran, but it was clear from the snap manner in which the meeting at the Kremlin was organized and announced that the Iranian nuclear issue would dominate the discussion.

A PMO statement was issued only one day ahead of the trip; the meeting was not open to the media, and was the first time in years that a prime minister has traveled for a one-day visit to a country other than Egypt, Jordan or Turkey.

Netanyahu secretly visited Russia: reports

http://www.reuters.com/article/worldNews/idUSTRE5882T420090909

Wed Sep 9, 2009 8:22am EDT

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israeli media reports said on Wednesday Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu secretly visited Moscow on Monday in a bid to dissuade Russia from selling weapons to Iran.

In Moscow, a spokesman for Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin denied the reports.

A spokesman for Netanyahu said he had visited a security installation in Israel, reiterating a statement issued by his office on Monday amid media speculation about his whereabouts.

An unsourced report in Israel's most popular newspaper, Yedioth Ahronoth, said the "security facility was actually Russia" and Netanyahu had discussed new arms deals being forged between the Kremlin and Iran.

Israel Radio reported after the Yedioth Ahronoth story appeared that Netanyahu, accompanied by his national security adviser and a military aide, boarded a chartered plane in a secluded area of Tel Aviv's Ben-Gurion airport on Monday and flew to Russia, returning late at night.

The radio, which also gave no source for its information, said Netanyahu had visited a security installation in Israel before traveling to Moscow.

Media reports over the weekend, citing military sources in Israel and Russia, said a cargo ship that went missing in the Atlantic for almost a month had been carrying Russian air defense S-300 missiles to Iran that were detected by Israel.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov dismissed those reports and said the circumstances of the Maltese-registered Arctic Sea's disappearance would become clear in due course.

The ship was officially carrying timber from Finland to Algeria when it was boarded on July 24 by a group of eight men. They were charged with kidnapping and piracy after it was intercepted by Russian warships off Cape Verde.

The advanced anti-aircraft system have been a sore point in relations between Moscow and Israel, which has lobbied Russia to pull away from selling them to Iran, saying they could protect Iranian nuclear facilities against air strikes.

Assumed to have the region's only atomic arsenal, Israel supports U.S.-led diplomatic efforts to deny Iran the means of making a nuclear bomb.

But Israel has hinted it could use force in a standoff that has often pitted Western powers against Russia.

Iran says it is enriching uranium to generate electricity.

This all feeds back to the 'hijacking' of the Arctic Sea which has all the earmarkings of a Russian intelligence op:

These events started to transpire in the wake of the 8/7 lunar eclipse, so I believe Kremlin Astrology was part of the timing of this drama:

If Russia is playing Israel here, then this may be End Game events unfolding IMO:

If the story below is accurate, then global thermonuclear war may indeed be imminent as I suggested in my Thesis epilogue. The next full-scale Arab/Israeli War is the trigger for Russia's long-planned attack on the West.

Seasonal patterns in mass mood swings point to the possibility of extreme panic into mid-October (28th day of the 7th lunar month).

If, in the days/weeks ahead, Israel does strike Hezbollah/Iran/Syria and full-scale war erupts with chemical missiles raining down on Haifa, Tel Aviv, etc., THEN BE CERTAIN that World War Three and the Biblical Apocalypse has begun.

It is at this time people will need to make some of the most difficult decisions ever made. If you remain unsecured in America, you will likely die. If you stay in America, you will need very substantial preparations to survive and you have to presume a nuclear/biological/chemical contaminated living environment for a long time. If you opt to flee America, you need to determine what relative safe haven around the world to relocate to for the rest of your lives, since America will be destroyed.

The people of Israel and Britian are facing a similar outlook, and other nations around the world with key NATO targets will take hard hits.

The West's cluelessness with regard to Russia's capabilities and intentions is beyond the pale of strategic reasoning. The level of strategic deception carried out over the last really 30-50 years is mind-boggling.

I can not in these lines reveal what will, in retrospect, be deemed the most insane level of military-strategic stupidity on the part of the West in human history. To keep the matter short and to the point, it is necessary for you all to heed the warnings of the defectors who were in the know and tried desperately to warn the all-too self-deceiving West. The simplest thing you as an individual can do is take a few minutes and listen to an audio excerpt of a 2001 interview with Colonel Stanislav Lunev, the highest ranking Russian military intelligence officer ever to defect to the West, where Russia's strategic nuclear war plans for America are spelled out in stark detail:

Good luck and God bless.

Russian report: Netanyahu may be planning attack

http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3775025,00.html

PM's rushed visit to Moscow under cloud of secrecy occupies Russian media. Kommersant paper quotes 'informed Israeli' source as saying 'It can't be ruled out that Israel may be ready to move on to decisive actions with regards to Iran, and Netanyahu decided to inform Kremlin of this'

Olga Gouresky Published: 09.10.09, 14:16 / Israel News

Russian media on Thursday continued to cover Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's mysterious visit to Moscow, that was leaked to the media from his office.

Kommersant newspaper quoted "experts" as saying they believe a visit of this kind could have stemmed from urgent circumstances, "for example, in the event that Israel plans to attack Iran".

Cloud of Mystery

Report: PM held secret talks in Russia / Ynet

Yedioth Ahronoth says Netanyahu's Monday 'disappearance' was actually Moscow visit meant to discuss arms deals between Russian, Iran. PMO asserts Netanyahu was 'handling classified matters,' never left the country.

At first, Moscow denied a visit ever took place, but after Netanyahu's office was forced to admit to the PM's Military Secretary Meir Kalifi's lie, a senior Kremlin source also confirmed to Kommersant that the Israeli prime minister did indeed visit the city.

Russian media also directed questions on the visit to the Israeli embassy in Moscow, but embassy sources said that if there was such a visit, "We know nothing about it."

The paper then quoted what it called an "informed" Israeli source, who wished to remain anonymous, as saying, "Such a visit could be related to new information and could threaten the Iranian nuclear program. It should not be ruled out that Israel may be ready to move on to decisive actions with regards to Iran, and Netanyahu has decided to inform the Kremlin of this."

Russian Foreign Minister Spokesman Andrei Nesterenko published an announcement saying, "We have no knowledge of a Netanyahu's 'secret' visit to Moscow. We saw reports in various media. They are inconsistent. Other than that, I cannot tell you anything. I have no detailed information in the matter, or any information in the matter. We have seen the reports."

On Wednesday, Ynet revealed that Netanyahu left Israel on a private jet belonging Israeli millionaire Yossi Maiman. Earlier Wednesday, Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper reported that his destination was Russia.

The prime minister's aides who published the false announcements of his whereabouts were a loss for words.

Wednesday night the Prime Minister's Office published yet another announcement in an attempt to rectify the damage, said, "The prime minister was busy with secret, classified activity. The military secretary took his own initiative to defend this activity."

The Israeli press certainly is buzzing in the last 48 hours, and this includes major mainstream media outlets like the Jerusalem Post....so some degree of government sanction is likely. I would suspect that this is by design since operational secrecy for a large-scale conflict is almost impossible to hide. Israeli authorities might as well get some word out to the people so they know to be on-guard and ready for war.

What does it mean when you change your avatar to the black swan???

From Wikipedia:

Background

The theory was described by Nassim Nicholas Taleb in his 2007 book The Black Swan. Taleb regards almost all major scientific discoveries, historical events, and artistic accomplishments as "black swans"—undirected and unpredicted. He gives the rise of the Internet, the personal computer, World War I, and the September 11, 2001 attacks as examples of Black Swan events.

The term Black Swan comes from the 17th century European assumption that 'All swans are white'. In that context, a black swan was a symbol for something that was impossible or could not exist. In the 18th Century, the discovery of black swans in Western Australia[3] metamorphosed the term to connote that a perceived impossibility may actually come to pass. Taleb notes that John Stuart Mill first used the Black Swan narrative to discuss falsification.

Coping with Black Swan Events

The main idea in Taleb's book is not to attempt to predict Black Swan events, but to build robustness to the negative ones, while being able to exploit positive ones. Taleb contends that banks and trading firms are very vulnerable to hazardous Black Swan events and are exposed to losses beyond that predicted by their defective models.

Taleb states that a Black Swan event depends on the observer—a Black Swan surprise for the turkey is not a Black Swan surprise for the butcher, hence his idea is to "avoid being the turkey" by finding out where one may be exposed to being a turkey and "turn the Black Swans white".

Identifying a Black Swan Event

Based on the author's criteria:

1. The event is a surprise.
2. The event has a major impact.
3. After the fact, the event is rationalized by hindsight, as if it had been expected.

Top French general: Military intervention in Iran no longer viable

Military intervention is no longer a viable option to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear capability, French chief-of-staff Gen. Jean-Louis Georgelin said Thursday.

Speaking in Washington, Georgelin told an audience that he believes a military operation would be too risky.

Georgelin was answering a question after a speech in Washington on NATO and stressed that the comment was his opinion.

Georgelin said it would be difficult to plan an operation in Iran "because we are not sure in one shot to be able to solve a problem." He added: "if you fail in one shot, it is a catastrophe."

Now that Iran has got all the components for making a nuclear device at extremely short notice, as affirmed by US intelligence. Israel can no longer delay a decision on pre-emptive action.

What will "The One" say if this occurs during his Chairmanship of the Security Council?

First response: "This is above my pay grade"

Second response: "Fetch me clean pants and ready Air Force One... I'm outta here!"

I normally avoid offering any sort of financial advice, but I will point out one strategy that can be employed to "insure" against a coming global financial panic and possible associated outbreak of war. This is particularly relevant advice to those who have investments to hedge. More so, however, I offer this with regard to those willing to spend a few hundred to a few thousand dollars now so that a very large amount of money is made immediately available in the event of mass panic offering you an option for making large expenditures to buy protective resources and/or move loved ones for extended periods.

The money invested would need to be deemed throw away money since this is insurance against a signficant financial panic. If you invest in this way, expect to lose the money spent completely.

The instruments that are somewhat new on Wall Street are VIX call options. The VIX is the implied volatility measure for S&P500 option contracts. It is, for all intents and purposes, a "fear index". When fear hits financial markets, the VIX surges. Last October the VIX rose to almost 90 from an August low of 20 in association with the financial crisis of the period:

vix-102508.jpg

Thus, November/December VIX calls with high strike prices (e.g., above 40) exploded in value offering 100 to 1 returns in many cases. That's why folks that insured their portfolios using these instruments were able to signficantly limit the damage of the market swoon.

Currently VIX calls in the months of October, November and December are selling at low relative prices:

http://bigcharts.marketwatch.com/qu...b=vix&sid=1704273&time=8&bars=3&bars=2&bars=4

In the event of an autumnal financial panic, and I'm afraid it may be associated with an outbreak of war at this point, the value of these call option contracts will explode making it possible to sell the contracts for large amounts of cash that, if you contact your broker, can be wired to immediately accessible local bank accounts. Furthermore, knowing that cash will be available will free one of concerns about using credit cards for immediate purchases of supplies, plane tickets, whatever, to respond decisively to developing circumstances.

A specific example of an instrument that may be purchased as a hedge against mass panic is the December VIX 50 call. The option contract trading symbol is VIXLJ:

http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=vixlj.x

This contract currently trades for $55 to $65 per contract. It has a large open interest and is fairly liquid. What's more, it doesn't expire until December 15th, thus offering a significant window of time.

If 10 contracts were purchased for $600, then in the event of a panic, e.g., a 30% October plunge in stock prices, the VIX would likely surge to 70+ and these contracts could be sold for $2000+ per contract. Thus, $20,000+ is made available for emergency expenditures for a current cost of $600. That's enough to move family members to a safer place for an extended period if need be the case.

Note that last October the VIX spiked to near 90 into the 28th day of the 7th lunar month on the Jewish calendar (three days before Rosh Hashanah) which marked the October selling panic climaxes in 1929, 1987 and 1997.

https://www.mta.org/eweb/docs/1998DowAward.pdf

autumn_panics.jpg

autumn_panics2.jpg

This year the 28th day of the 7th lunar month will be October 14th, or Columbus Day, according to my calculations.

There is a possibility that panic would start sometime soon and climax into this timeframe.

Indeed, my gravest concern is that nuclear war would occur into this period. This might seem like a stretch, but I discovered the highest DEFCON nuclear alert levels ever reached by NORAD occurred into the same point on the lunar calendar, i.e., the 28th day of the 7th lunar month, in the October 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis and 1973 Yom Kippur Arab-Israeli War when the U.S. and Russia were in potentially explosive confrontations. (See my Thesis epilogue or Stock Market Crash Alert from last year.) A replay of this here is distinctly possible except that this time the button will be pressed.

Given this scenario, we all need to start taking decisive measures IMHO. A small expenditure now on VIXLJ contracts or the like at least will free one of financial constraints in taking decisive action should a serious crisis emerge as I and others are starting to see as increasingly possible.

What does it mean when you change your avatar to the black swan???

IMHO it means we have done -nothing- to build "robustness" into our political and economic system.

Thus when an "impossible" event occurs, the wheels completely fall off. The paradigm is changed forever.

By definition a "Black Swan" -cannot- be specifically predicted. However, one can prepare for an unforseen eventuality by utilizing -robustness-.

- We never thought the banks could fail. They did!

- We never thought a foreign power could kill thousands of Americans on our own soil. It's called 9/11.

- We never thought one guy on a white horse could ride into this country and destroy it. It will one day.

A "Black Swan" is the worst event possible because we are too smug and too vain to even consider it as even being "possible".

Silly humans!

Israel Warns Russia “We’ll Bring Whole World Down With Us”

By: Sorcha Faal, and as reported to her Western Subscribers

Grim reports circulating in the Kremlin today are stating that during a “shouting match” between President Medvedev and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu [photo 2nd left], the leader of the Jewish Nation warned “We’ll bring the whole World down with us if we have to” after his, Netanyahu, being “told with all authority” by Medvedev that Russia would not sanction Israel’s planned nuclear bombing of Iran and would “very likely” retaliate if Netanyahu carries out his threat.

In what Russian Foreign Ministry Officials are saying was an “unprecedented breech on International protocol”, Netanyahu secreted himself to Moscow this week aboard an Israeli registered private jet that reported its destination as being the capital of Georgia, Tbilisi, which Israel had previously armed for that Nations brutal assault upon South Ossetia which Russian forces were able to successfully repel during last years war.

However, upon the Israeli plane nearing Russian airspace, these reports continue, an “urgent” request to deviate from its original flight plan and fly to Moscow was received by Russian Military air controllers who were “stunned” when informed by the pilot that Netanyahu was aboard whereupon permission was granted for the flight to land at the Kubinka air base in Moscow Oblast where it was met by FSB forces, Russian and Israeli diplomatic officials.

Medvedev, when informed of Netanyahu’s surprise visit was rushed by his Security personal to Kubinka where according to these reports he was met by an “enraged” Netanyahu, Israeli Military Affairs Secretary General Meir Kalifi and Israeli National Security Advisor Uzi Arad who all then demanded the “immediate return” of “all documents, equipment and Mossad agents” captured by Russian and US commandos who took back control from the Israeli and rogue CIA commandos the hijacked ship Arctic Sea.

[Note: We had previously reported on the Arctic Sea hijacking in our reports: “Russia “Alarmed” After Nuclear Warheads Go Missing In Atlantic” and “Russian And US Forces Retake Missing Nukes From Rogue CIA “Terrorists”]

[Note: Western propaganda media sources are currently reporting the absurd notion that the Arctic Sea “may have” contained Russian missiles bound for Iran, which as anyone who knows this region is aware that all sea traffic between Russia and Iran is done on the waters of the Caspian Sea that both countries have ports on and is never conducted on Atlantic or Mediterranean sea lanes.]

Medvedev, when faced with Netanyahu’s “outburst”, was reported to have responded (Medvedev and Netanyahu both spoke in English which they are both fluent in) that as the facts into the Arctic Sea hijacking was still being investigated Russia was “not prepared” to release any of the “evidence” to anyone.

Netanyahu then issued his threatening words to Medvedev along with a further threat that Russia “should watch its own back” and not to be surprised when “mushroom clouds start appearing over Tehran” whereupon he re-boarded his plane with his military and intelligence entourage for his return flight back to Israel and leaving “everyone shocked” as to what all of the events meant.

Upon Netanyahu’s return to Israel their media reported that he, at first, attempted to deny his secret trip to Russia, but which was subsequently confirmed by a “senior Jerusalem official”.

An FSB addendum to these reports state that Israeli National Security Advisor Uzi Arad, who was the former director of intelligence for Israel's Mossad and banned from the United States in 2004, was “most assuredly” the “mastermind” behind the hijacking of the Arctic Sea for a planned attack upon the US as Russian Intelligence Officials have long suspected him of being one of the “main perpetrators” of the September 11, 2001 attacks upon America.

Arad is also believed by Russian Military Analysts to be the main instigator for an immediate nuclear attack upon Iran’s atomic facilities as he his Nation’s destruction of the Persian Nation as an “existential imperative” for Israel if it is to survive.

Further threatening Israel was Netanyahu’s defiance of President Obama in ordering an expansion of settlements in occupied Palestinian territory that the US, EU, Russia and China had warned him not to do.

Russian Foreign Ministry Officials state grimly in these reports that unless Israel returns to a more “sane” government headed by the highly respected opposition chairwoman Tzipi Livni the “only outcome” will be “Total Global Warfare” which Netanyahu and his radical right-wing allies (who stole the Israeli election from Livni) are intent upon starting as they see a “great conflict” as being the only means viable for keeping all of the land they say is theirs by “birthright”, but which millions of Palestinians strongly disagree.

And to how radical Netanyahu’s government has become we can see evidenced in his ordering his government to begin running television advertisements warning Israelis not to marry non-Jews, and as we can read:

“The Israeli government has launched a television and Internet advertising campaign urging Israelis to inform on Jewish friends and relatives abroad who may be in danger of marrying non-Jews. The advertisements, employing what the Israeli media described as "scare tactics," are designed to stop assimilation through intermarriage among young Diaspora Jews by encouraging their move to Israel.”

To what the final outcome of these events will be can be gleaned from these reports, but which due to the constraints placed upon us in receiving this information in the first place we can only strongly advise that the next 8-weeks may well be the defining period of time for this entire century.

If Israel does attack Iran, then my interpretation (America is the goat) of Daniel 8 is wrong and I apologize for promoting this view. An attack by Israel (or America, for that matter) would likely lead to a global nuclear conflagration of some sort.

Lately, I have come to believe that the antichrist is Muslim and that the Beast (the biggest bad guy) is Islam and that Daniels' 70th week could very well be confined to the M/E. IF this is the case, then what of the EU, US, and Russia? What are these nations doing while Daniels' 70th week is unfolding?

It looks like Russia is not part of it.

http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=108899

And America is notoriously absent from endtimes events.

And the EU is not a revived Roman Empire, since this expectation is also false.

I am seriously considering that global nuclear/biological/chemical conflagration may actually be the event/s that "clear" the way for the Islamic beast and antichrist in the M/E and for endtimes Biblical prophecy (final 7 years) to truly begin.

Lots of questions and re-appraisal of my endtime beliefs right now. Although I am still doubtful that Israel will attack Iran.

Netanyahu visits Moscow in secret to obstruct Iran missile sale

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/sep/11/netanyahu-missiles-iran-israel-russia

Israeli prime minister faces widespread criticism after mission details leaked to press

Rory McCarthy in Jerusalem and Luke Harding in Moscow The Guardian, Friday 11 September 2009 Article historyRussia and Israel were both facing domestic embarrassment today after it emerged that the Israeli prime minister, Binyamin Netanyahu, had taken a secret trip to Moscow to persuade the Russians not to sell anti-aircraft missiles to Iran.

Officials in Moscow and Jerusalem were left backtracking after they initially denied media reports that Netanyahu flew by private jet to Russia to discourage the Kremlin from giving the Iranians Russia's advanced S-300 system.

His furtive encounter with the Russian leadership is likely to fuel speculation that discussions referred to the Arctic Sea, the mysterious Russian cargo ship apparently hijacked on 28 July. Several newspapers have suggested that the boat was carrying S-300 long-range surface to air missiles bound for Tehran.

The story broke in Israel after the prime minister left his office in Jerusalem on Monday, telling only a handful of his closest aides where he was going. In public, staff said he was visiting a "security installation" in Israel, but on Wednesday night the prime minister's bureau issued an update saying he had been engaged in secret activity.

It now appears that Netanyahu flew to Moscow with his national security adviser, Uzi Arad, a former officer at Mossad, the Israeli foreign intelligence agency. Rather than taking an Israeli air force jet, they leased a private businessman's aircraft at a reported cost of more than $20,000 (£12,000), flying home that evening. It remains unclear whether their mission succeeded.

Sergei Lavrov, Russia's foreign minister, refused to deny reports of the visit. "I am only going to say: to verify the rumour you should go to the source of the rumour," he said. "Our co-operation with Iran is quite legitimate. We are not selling offensive weapons to Iran."

Lavrov said the S-300 system was purely defensive, and added: "As far as the trade of military elements goes, Russia has not violated [its] international obligations."

Some reports have suggested that Mossad tracked the apparently hijacked Arctic Sea last month because it was believed to be carrying smuggled S-300 missiles from Russia, bound for Syria and Iran. Russian officials say the ship was carrying timber.

A day after the recovery of the ship, the Israeli president, Shimon Peres, also travelled to Russia to discuss weapon sales. He later claimed to have received an assurance from Russia's president, Dmitry Medvedev, that the country would "reconsider" the planned sale of the S-300 missiles to Iran.

Israel is particularly worried that Iran might use the weapons to protect its nuclear sites against a military strike. Israeli officials have repeatedly avoided ruling out a response to Iran's nuclear programme, suggesting that a military strike remains an option.

In Israel, the visit raised more questions about Netanyahu's secretiveness and style of government than it did about missiles for Iran.

Netanyahu's office attempted to diffuse criticism by attributing the confusion to his military attache. "The prime minister was busy with confidential and classified activities," the statement said. "The military attache, who was not in touch with the prime minister at that time, acted on his independent initiative in order to defend that activity, and did this through a statement that was sent to his media adviser with the best of intentions."

Some asked why, if the visit was so secret, it was allowed to leak to the press so quickly. Israel operates a strict military and security censorship policy which often prevents journalists from reporting sensitive issues, even including some apparently straightforward criminal investigations.

"The prime minister's bureau lied to the public. Simply that," said one report in the Yedioth Ahronoth, which talked of an "ugly power battle" in Netanyahu's office. It was the first major media frenzy since he became prime minister six months ago. His bureau was described by some as a "cuckoo's nest" and a "fool's paradise".

I am the Black Swan. :)

Russia Says No to Iran Nuclear Sanctions

Russia is clearly pushing Israel to strike Iran at this historical juncture IMHO. Between stopping sanctions against Iran by the U.N. and potentially arming Iran with the S-300air-defense system, Moscow is forcing Israel to act soon to mitigate Iran's nuke program that is nearly capable of producing a weapon.

Russia Says No to Iran Nuclear Sanctions

MOSCOW -- Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov made it clear Thursday that Moscow wouldn't back any new rounds of tough sanctions against Iran in the United Nations Security Council, and he dismissed a U.S. timetable for securing progress from Iran on ending its nuclear-fuel program.

Mr. Lavrov's comments in Moscow led U.S. officials to acknowledge that new U.N. sanctions against Iran were now unlikely in the near term -- endangering a major element of President Barack Obama's high-profile strategy for diplomacy in the Middle East. "We're pretty disappointed with the Russian position so far," a senior U.S. official said.

The development also appeared a blow to hopes that the Obama administration's "reset" of relations with Russia would lead to Moscow supporting a top U.S. foreign-policy priority.

Just a day after U.S. officials warned that Iran may already have enough enriched uranium to make a bomb if processed further, Mr. Lavrov said negotiations should begin without any imposed timetable. He also said that even if Iran tried to make weapons-grade fuel it would be detected and there would be time to respond. "I do not think those sanctions will be approved by the United Nations Security Council," Mr. Lavrov said.

President Barack Obama has set a deadline of this month for progress on talks with Iran, and the U.S. and its allies planned to develop an international consensus about sanctions by the time the U.N. General Assembly concludes its meeting in New York in two weeks. But Russia wields a veto on the Security Council.

Mr. Lavrov's comments also came amid a political storm in Israel over the disclosure that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had secretly traveled to Moscow earlier this week. Israeli media immediately speculated he was there to lobby against Russian sales of antiaircraft arms to Iran that would hamper any Israeli strike. A more likely subject for the trip emerged among some analysts: A proposal that Moscow host an Israeli-Palestinian peace summit to increase the credibility of talks.

Mr. Lavrov's comments Thursday, to an annual meeting of Russia experts known as the Valdai Club, was the second hit in two days to U.S. hopes of coaxing Iran to compromise on development of its nuclear program while dangling the threat of international consequences -- such as banning exports of necessities such as refined petroleum -- if it declines.

Senior U.S. officials Thursday said that Iran's proposal the day before on the nuclear issue was "insulting" to Western countries that had hoped for a diplomatic resolution. A senior official said the document, which didn't address nuclear-fuel production or a timetable for talks, appeared to indicate that Tehran wasn't prepared to engage in real talks, perhaps because of turmoil over its recent election.

The official added that Tehran seemed to be trying for a framework in which the issue of enrichment of uranium wouldn't be addressed at all. "This is clearly not going to happen," said the U.S. official.

Mr. Lavrov disagreed with the U.S. assessment, contending there was "something there to use" in the proposal Tehran sent to the U.S., Russia, China, France, Britain and Germany. He noted that Iran said in the document that it was ready for comprehensive talks on security in the region.

"They need an equal place in this regional dialogue," he said. "Iran is a partner that has never harmed Russia in any way."

The rebuffs from Tehran and Moscow appear to leave the U.S. with few options in trying to block Iran from developing a uranium stockpile, which the U.S. and European governments believe could trigger a nuclear arms race in the Middle East. Israel has hinted it might conduct airstrikes against Iran's nuclear infrastructure to prevent that.

Mr. Lavrov appeared to dismiss U.S. and Israeli warnings of urgency. If Iran tried to enrich uranium to weapons grade, he said, it would have to reconfigure its cascades of centrifuges, a move that would immediately be picked up by cameras monitored by the Vienna-based International Atomic Energy Agency. There would be time to respond, he said.

Western nuclear analysts say that if Iran can develop enough highly enriched uranium it could "break out" relatively quickly to manufacture a working weapon. Iran says it wants enriched uranium only for civilian purposes.

Mr. Lavrov said he welcomed the Obama administration's change in "style," and its willingness to listen to others -- a stark contrast, he said, to the administration of President George W. Bush. He noted that Russia since its "reset" of relations already has agreed to allow U.S. troops and military equipment to cross its territory to resupply the war effort in Afghanistan. He said Moscow had a common interest in seeing that effort succeed.

But Mr. Lavrov was skeptical about the depth of change in the U.S. approach under Mr. Obama, despite the Russian's view that a multipolar world -- in which the U.S. is just "the first among equals" -- increasingly restricts U.S. ability to impose its will globally. He added, "I don't think anyone in this room believes that any U.S. administration would forget its strategic goal: to stay No. 1."

Mr. Lavrov said even an expected U.S. move to drop plans to station a missile-defense system in Eastern Europe wouldn't be seen as a concession to Russia; such a move would merely correct a previous U.S. mistake, he said.

I personaly think russia is just as fearful of nuc equipped Iran as the rest of the world. They thought they would be able to control them by helping but can't.With the possiblity of the Pakis loosing theirs, some or all of their nuclear
arsenal to the AQ Muzzie Fundies, maybe they are playing nice with the Israelis. Remember the Russians are very pragmatic, help today, crush, kill, destroy tomorrow. However that really doesn't matter because an IDF attack on Iran will kick the ant hill over and drop a scoop of pissed off ants down everyone's pants.

I'll be speaking with an ex intell specialist tomorrow who was a Soviet primary with mideast secondary specialist. We'll see what he thinks and I'll pass it on.

Russia, starved for cash flow, wants attack on Iran so that Straits of H get closed, leaving only Russia oil on the market available for delivery at about $400/barrel. Solves most of their problems, especially if several of their oil competitors get taken out in the fray, for longer term business positioning.

LOL!

It's not about the money.

Russia's concern is global dominance, and America is in the way.

The Kremlin fancies itself the Christian Third Rome and America is considered the worldly serpent to be slain:

Putin: Russia opposes force, sanctions on Iran

NOVO-OGARYOVO, Russia — Vladimir Putin's spokesman says the Russian prime minister has warned against the use of force or new sanctions against Iran over its nuclear program.

Dmitry Peskov said Putin made the remarks during a meeting Friday with foreign experts on Russia.

Peskov quoted Putin as saying Russia has no reason to doubt that Iran's nuclear program is purely peaceful.

He quoted Putin as saying that the use of force "won't solve the problem" and will hurt the entire region, and that sanctions would not have the desired effect.

Other participants said Putin also said Russia does not want to see a nuclear-armed Iran and that Iran needs to answer international concerns about its nuclear activity.
