A man who's charged with planning a terror attack in San Francisco was discharged from the Marine Corps and reportedly inspired by the deadly attack in New York this past Halloween. (KGO-TV)

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) --
Officials have stopped a man who reportedly stated that "Christmas was the perfect day" for a terror attack in San Francisco and "did not need an escape plan because he was ready to die."

We've learned the FBI has arrested a man by the name of Everitt Aaron Jameson from Modesto. They say he wanted to target Pier 39.



According to FBI documents, Jameson picked out that location because he "had been there before and knew it was a heavily crowded area." He added that it would be easy to "funnel" people into an area where he could inflict casualties.

Jameson reportedly said he was inspired by the New York terror attack on Oct. 31, when a man drove into a crowd and killed eight people, and the deadly 2015 shooting in San Bernardino.


The documents also say Jameson was posting and liking pro-ISIS and pro-terrorism content on Facebook.
And according to the documents, the suspect was discharged from the Marine Corps. He had prior military experience with a "sharpshooter" rifle qualification and expertise with rifle marksmanship.

Officials say Jameson was talking to an undercover FBI agent. They add that he was arrested earlier this week and a search warrant was executed at his Modesto home. Several firearms were found, along with fireworks.
ABC7 News contacted officials at Pier 39 to ask for a response, they say they did not know about this plot.

Obviously, we can't hope to be saved by enemy incompetence. If this guy had just kept quiet, picked up his guns on Christmas Eve, gone to Pier 39 and started shooting, we would have had another mass casualty event with dozens dead and wounded. The guy I am worried about is the quiet one. The guy I am worried about is the one who doesn't shoot his mouth off, make Facebook posts, but just quietly waits for his opportunity, and then just does it, without fanfare, without any thumping on his chest, or online boasting.

Jameson was a Bernie Sanders supporter according to his Facebook page which has just been deleted (below is a screenshot).

The terror suspect was also a fan of many Islamic Facebook pages including “Arabic Islamic Academic”, “The Muslim Street” and “Islam’s Dank Meme Stash”.

Jameson reportedly converted to Islam two years ago. He said he was inspired by ISIS and the Manhattan truck attack.

The FBI stopped a man who was posting and liking “pro-ISIS” content on Facebook from committing a terrorist attack in San Francisco on Christmas, ABC News 7 reports.

ISIS 'Hints' List: Attack 'Isolated Victim,' Make it Look Like Random Murder

ISIS supporters are encouraging lone jihadists to try methods such as making a terrorist attack look like a random murder or cooking up poisons to use on victims in a new suggestion list.

The "hints" list, posted on Telegram, shows the Eiffel Tower and Big Ben in the background, with blood dripping from the top of the image. It was distributed in Arabic, French and English, with the English translation not clean.

Lone jihadists were urged to have "total emmersion [sp] in the community," while "choosing easy targets to deal with" in an operation that "must be secret & unseen."

The list suggests "attacking an isolated victim and make it look like a Homiside [sp]." This method was mentioned in the October 2016 issue of ISIS' Rumiyah magazine focusing on knife attacks, when terrorists were advised to target someone walking home from a night out or working the night shift, "or someone walking alone in a public park or rural forested area, or someone by himself in an alley close to a night club or another place of debauchery, or even someone out for a walk in a quiet neighborhood."

Also suggested was "burning markets, churches & factories at night time." In the January issue of Rumiyah, ISIS claimed a November 2016 fire at a furniture factory in Losino-Petrovsky, Russia. That article included a large photo of the First Baptist Church in Dallas, along with its address and the caption, "A popular Crusader gathering place waiting to be burned down." Jihadists were advised to time their arson "preferably in the later part of night to the early hours of morning when people are generally asleep."

The "hints" list continues to suggest "putting iron pieces in the railroads to take the train off course" (a train derailment tool that's essentially a concrete and rebar track clamp was detailed by al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula in the August issue of Inspire magazine) or "making lethal poisons from the available materials." An official ISIS guide distributed in November 2016 advised jihadists to explore the wide range of toxic plants that are "accessible to everyone."

Finally, jihadists were encouraged to try "taking the ennemy's [sp] money" -- again, a suggestion with Rumiyah roots, when ISIS told followers to steal and send the caliphate 20 percent of the loot.

Islamic State supporters have been issuing myriad holiday threats, including a poster last week showing the National Cathedral in Washington in flames, with a camouflage-clad jihadist wielding a rifle standing in front of the Gothic structure.

The threat mirrored that on a poster of Santa with a case of dynamite overlooking Times Square, which was released just after Thanksgiving: "We meet at Christmas in New York... soon," reads the text on that image.

The other U.S. house of worship targeted by ISIS supporters' posters this holiday season has been the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Temple in San Diego, with the text "coming soon."

The ISIS-supporting Wafa' Media Foundation has released numerous threats against the holiday and against the Vatican. In a recent message to fellow jihadists, the group noted that "the crusaders' feast is approaching."

In another instance, Wafa' circulated a poster depicting a vehicle moving toward the Vatican with a cache of weapons, vowing "Christmas blood."

A former Marine has been arrested for plotting a Christmas Day attack on San Francisco's Pier 39.

The FBI announced on Wednesday that Everitt Aaron Jameson from Modesto, California, had been taken into custody.

They found a manifesto at his home which denounced Trump for recently declaring Jerusalem Israel's capital and they also discovered three handguns and four fireworks.

For months, Jameson had been speaking to an undercover FBI agent who he thought was a high-ranking member of a terror group.

Agents started looking into him after one of their sources flagged his Facebook profile to them. The source said they noticed him 'liking' posts in support of ISIS and terror attacks against the US.

Between October and this week, Jameson exchanged messages with the source and with a second undercover FBI agent who he thought were both high ranking members of terror groups.

Among their messages was his offer to use a truck from the tow truck company where he worked to further the 'cause'.

He also asked them for materials included a PVC pipe, ammunition, powder, nails and an assault rifle, they said.

Jameson's plan was to set off explosives at the pier to 'funnel' crowds to a certain area where he could then hurt them further by presumably shooting them, according to the documents.

He said he was familiar with the site and sent the undercover agents maps and the photographs of it, they said.

On Facebook, Jameson, opposed President Trump's recent announcement that Jerusalem was the capital of Israel - a move which enraged millions of Muslims around the world.

Jameson, who refers to himself as a 'slave of Allah' online, said Jerusalem was Palestine's capital instead.

In his correspondence with the agents, he called himself a 'revert' meaning he had returned to Islam after not believing.

On December 16, he allegedly met with an undercover FBI agent and proposed a bomb attack on the tourist destination.

'Jameson specifically named Pier 39 in San Francisco as a target location because he had been there before and knew that it was a heavily crowded area and that according to Jameson, no reconnaissance or site survey would be necessary.

'Jameson explained that he also desired to use explosives and described a plan in which explosives could 'tunnel or funnel' people into a location where Jameson could inflict casualties.

'He replied that he could do it this week (the week of December 18-December 25).

'Jameson also stated that Christmas was 'the perfect day' to commit the attack,' the FBI's arrest affidavit reads.

In his manifesto, he allegedly described being inspired by the October 31 New York City attack of Sayfullo Saipov who killed eight people by mowing them down on cycle path in a rented Home Depot truck.

The 26-year-old served graduated from the US Marines training in 2009 and was awarded the 'sharp shooter' title.

He was discharged later for failing to disclose he had asthma.

According to the FBI's arrest affidavit, Jameson offered to help other people he thought were jihadis by giving them use of his tow truck for 'the cause'.

On October 27, he told the agent, who he believed was a high-level member of a jihadi group: 'I am here to beg to join the cause against darul kuffar. I'm ready.

He said he was a 'revert' which meant he could 'blend in' and cause more 'shock and awe'.

Jameson works for a local tow truck company which has a contract with the City of Modesto, according to the FBI.

On November 27, FBI agents watched him as he worked at the site.

They later saw him driving a truck around Modesto, they said.

At the start of December, a second FBI agent who was posing undercover began speaking with him on Facebook.

He is alleged to have told them: 'I was a soldier in the Kuffar army before I reverted. I have been trained in combat and things of war. In Sha Allah anything of that nature, as well as funding. Anything for Allah.'

Later, he told the agent 'they needed something along the lines of New York or San Bernardino'.

Jameson continued to speak to him over text message but, on December 18, backed out of the plot, they said.

'I also don't think I can do this after all. I've reconsidered,' he allegedly said.

The FBI searched his home on December 20 and found inside a 'last will' and a statement.

The statement read: 'I Abdallah adu Everitt ibn Gordon have committed these acts upon the Kuffar, in the name of Dar al Islam, Allahu Akbar! You all have brought this upon yourselves.

'There is no innocent Kuffar! Each and every Kuffar in this Nationalistic, Godless society has a hand in this.

'You've allowed Donald J. Trump to give away Al Quds to the Jews. Both You and he are wrong, it belongs to the Muslemeen. We have penetrated and infiltrated your disgusting country. These acts will continue until the Lions of Islam overtake you.

'Turn to Allah, make tawbah and fight with us, the soldiers who fight in the day and night. Allah SWT is most forgiving, I am not. Long live Isil, Long Live Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

'Abdallah abu Everitt ibn Gordon al-Amriki.'

During the search of his home, he allegedly admitted to supporting ISIS and said he would have been happy for an attack to be carried out.

'During the search of the residence, FBI Agents interviewed Jameson.

At periodic times during that interview, Jameson stated his support of ISIS and terrorism and discussed aspects of the plan to carry out an attack, noting that he would not be happy if an attack was carried out,' it read.

Very difficult to drive any vehicle onto Pier 39, there's too many obstacles in the way like planter boxes and many ways for people to escape. Lots of ways to the outside to the wharf walkway. Too many shops to hide in. This guy did not plan his target too clearly. I've been to Pier 39 many times and will be there next month before we leave on a cruise to Hawaii.

This type of person always leaves a trail of breadcrumbs after the fact. I would bet good money his employer was aware he was a nutcase. Since he was a Muslim, they likely left him alone out of fear of being sued for "harassment."

Still, it takes a real moron to go on facebook, and talk with an "ISIS leader." I mean if he really understood lone wolf tactics, he would have kept a low profile, shut up, and then just done the attack, with no footprint and no effort to recruit anybody else. If all this guy had done, was pick up his weapons on Christmas Day, gone down to Pier 39 and started shooting, well you can't stop that type of "under the radar" attack. I have no doubt that ISIS will point out in their next "terrorist magazine issue," exactly that. STFU, keep a low profile and just do it without using social media, or telling friends or just keep it to yourself, AND THEN DO IT.

Terrorism? Police Targeted in Harrisburg, PA Shooting Spree by Gunman with ‘Ties to Middle East’

Ahmed Aminamin El-Mofty was identified by Dauphin County District Attorney Ed Marsico at a late Friday night press conference as the man who was shot and killed in a shootout with police after he fired on officers in several attacks targeting police in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on Friday. Marsico said El-Mofty, 51, had ‘ties to the Middle East’ and had recently traveled there. One officer was wounded but is expected to make a full recovery. Marsico said of El-Mofty, “it was no doubt that he was directly targeting police officers.”

The FBI is involved in the investigation but no motive for the attacks has been reported. PJ media reported El-Mofty is a naturalized citizen from Turkey.

PJ Media also noted “ISIS supporter Jalil Aziz was sentenced to 12 years in prison (on Wednesday) in Harrisburg.” However police have not yet tied the shootings to the sentencing.

WGAL-TV reported Marsico’s summary of the attacks:

1. Around 4 p.m., shots were fired at a Capitol police officer at 3rd and Mulberry streets. The officer’s vehicle was hit. The officer was not hurt.

2. Shots were fired at a Pennsylvania State trooper at 4th and Market streets. The officer suffered a slight injury. She is expected to be OK.

3. At 17th and Mulberry streets, the gunman engages in a shootout with Harrisburg police and state police, and is killed. No officers are hurt.

In the final attack, El-Mofty shot at police with two 9mm handguns according to Marsico. A suspicious device found near El-Mofty’s body was determined to be “of no import” by police, reported PennLive.

CAIRO (AP) — Hundreds of Muslim demonstrators attacked an unlicensed church south of Cairo wounding three people, an Egyptian Coptic Christian diocese said on Saturday, in the latest assault on members of the country’s Christian minority.

The incident took place after Friday prayers when dozens of demonstrators gathered outside the building and stormed it. The demonstrators chanted hostile slogans and called for the church’s demolition, the diocese in Atfih said. The demonstrators destroyed the church’s contents and assaulted Christians inside before security personnel arrived and dispersed them.

The wounded were transferred to a nearby hospital, the diocese said after the attack, without elaborating.

A media coordinator at the diocese, the Rev. Yehnes Youssef, said later on Saturday that three Copts were wounded but have been treated.

The church in Giza just outside of Cairo is yet to be sanctioned by the state but has been holding prayers for 15 years. The diocese said it had officially sought to legalize the building’s status under a 2016 law that laid down the rules for building churches.

Local authorities often refuse to issue building permits for new churches, fearing protests by hardline Muslim. Christians sometimes build churches illegally or set up churches in other buildings.

Christians constitute around 10 percent of Egypt’s predominantly Muslim population. Sectarian violence erupts occasionally, mainly in rural communities in the south.

Egypt’s Christian minority has been targeted by Islamic militants in a series of attacks since December 2016 that left more than 100 dead and scores wounded. The country has been under a state of emergency since April after suicide bombings struck two Coptic Christian churches on Palm Sunday in an attack that was claimed by the local affiliate of the Islamic State group.
