As with any medical or herbal advice found on the internet, use discernment.

I'm just getting started learning about "alternative" medicines based on Herbs & etc., so these posts should not be considered endorsements - rather, interesting topics for review/discussion.

I'm going to post a few videos on various Herbal/Medicinal plants that I come across that I found interesting or informative. Hope y'all enjoy, and feel free to add any info you've found as well.

And again, you must use discernment and verify with multiple sources in regards to any potential treatments you may find and wish to try.

Interesting video on the possible benefits of Comfrey for pain and other things, referencing Scientific research:

I would suggest anything by Lisa Ganora (absolutely brilliant chemist and herbalist) or Sam Coffman (herbal medic). I have been taught by both of them and cannot recommend them highly enough. I am attending the annual symposium of the American Herbalist Guild next week and I AM SO EXCITED!! Can't wait to learn a bunch of new - or old- stuff!

So I was looking through some of my books and I found 12 books on herbs, mostly medicinal. Now to look through the medicinal seeds I have stashed in the fridg. I'm only going to try a couple because I'm a lousy gardener, but I have those wonderful planter boxes DH just built for me this week. He's a blessing.

Just don't plant Japanese Knotweed for any reason at all. Invasive doesn't cover it with that plant. It make kudzu, morning glory, and porcelain berry all look like friendlies in comparison.

Don't even put it in a pot thinking you'll control it that way.

Gout weed aka Bishops weed aka ground elder, too. It is my nemesis! I have been trying to get rid of it for 50 years and it is still a problem. Nothing stops it.

I finally beat sweet autumn clematis, honeysuckle, and wisteria. Then a thorny pita showed up and I'm still fighting it. I can't remember what it's called but the thorns cover even the roots. It requires leather rose gloves to pull, and even then it can bite. Wild grapes and porcelain berry showed up last year. And in non-vining, I'm battling Heavenly Bamboo.

Just received comfrey tubers or roots yesterday! A neighbor and I are sharing medicinals. We are growing different things but sharing the products. We both have green houses and have shared efforts in Spring and Fall. So far working out well. Bought new generator for colloidal silver. Now rechecking tinctures, ointment/salves and dried products.

On Comfrey... I'm way too busy to watch videos right now (looks like today is our last good day for awhile, and I've got to get outside and get busy), so I don't know if they mentioned the liver issues.

FDA banned it for internal use because it CAN destroy the liver. That is true... if you're an idiot! (Or, if you already have liver problems, or take a lot of liver damaging substances ... heavy drinkers or those who use a lot of Tylenol really should avoid oral Confrey use)

However, the ONLY person who ever died from ingesting comfrey was a young man who was a self-described "binge eater". He decided he loved comfrey... and ate a pound or more a day for several weeks!

You aren't going to hurt yourself with a couple cups of comfrey tea daily! !

But... if you are at all concerned, , the dangerous alkaloids are at the highest levels in the first young leaves in Spring. If you let the plant grow to a foot or so tall and then cut it back, subsequent growth will be safe to consume.

Oh dear I hope I didn’t trigger all the comfrey chatter. I use it topically as that has been our need for now.

No worries.. I was responding to the title of the video in the OP. I'm busier than a one armed paper hanger trying to make use of our last warm day, and am responding late to the threads I find time to read!

Not really, but we've had mid eighties for highs the last 3 days, and close to 10 days without rain. It's been a real blessing to get wood in, last harvests done (just out more broccoli and cauliflower in the freezer) and figuring out what to do with the bees and how much honey we can take.

No frost in the forecast yet, but 42° for a low Sunday and Monday, and not above 60 for 8 or 9 days... and several days of rain in the forecast. Fall is definitely here!

We desperately need some of that rain. The things that we have down to germinate seed this fall and to maintain the plants set out from greenhouse!

Do you have her Herbal Constituents book? Is it worth it as a reference book?

I do. It depends on your background. I am not stupid, but its a little hard for me to understand. It would be easier if I had more than HS chemistry. You cant always tell it from her videos, but she will start groking on the difference between an alcohol and an ester, or between the types of terpenes and i get a little lost!

Might be above my knowledge base then. : )
