OK folks, check out the big sale they are having at Dollar Tree stores this week. They had cases lined up of those single LED solar lights. At $1 each - that's a steal. We bought almost a case (nearly all that was left then) to keep for those extreme emergencies you always need to plan for.

They may not be enough light to read by, but they will usually put off enoug light to keep parts of your house illuminated right up til bedtime.

HOWDY: Last time they had a sale of these I bought two to try, was so impressed I went back the next day and bought a case of 24.

For two months now two-one on each side of the opening-have been on the front and side entrances of the porch. They're working great to mark the walkway in the dark.

The rest are put away, waiting for the TOTAL COLLAPSE of society!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

buy one and open it up.

I bought a couple for $1.99 recently and then saw a sticker than said it contained a coin size battery. I opened it up and in fact it had a AAA cell.

This is important as the capacity of the cell determine how long the light will run from a full charge.

BTW, while the AAA cell was marked 600 mAhrs in fact when put on a microprocessor controlled smart charger and cycled to determine mAhr capacity the batteries only tests out to mid-200's mAhrs

I had gotten one at Big Lots to try and it did not survive our hail and rainstorm recently. Probably best to test one and then keep inside until needed when TSHF.

Agreed. Rechargeable batteries have a charge/re-charge lifetime, they can only go so many time and then they are kaput. High quality batteries may go many hundreds of recharges, mediocre rechargeable batteries less than half that number. Guess what quality your getting in any of these lights?

Set them aside out of the elements and do not pull out the plastic tab that completes the connection until you need them. Some rechargeable can go into fatal cell polarity reversal, if put away and allowed to discharge....as might happen if you pull the tab out to test the light and then put it away in a dark place.

I picked up a couple at Dollar Tree last Monday. I was impressed. They stay lit all night long. Don't go out until the dawning light.

If I had the spare $$ here is what I would do if these are built like a couple I had a few years ago.

Take them apart so you have the unit with the solar panel on one side and the light on the other.

Cut a section of plywood to fit in a window-half frame is wish.

Use a hole saw to cut ten or more holse in the sheet of wood then glue the units in with the solar panels facing out.

Let them charge during the day and at night you have enough of them they should light a room decently.

The ones I had, I could use as a flashlight to walk to the toilet in the basement apt I shared with a GF.

My eyes suck at night but one LED [[dim amber]] was more than enough for me to not wall into things or trip over things in complete darkness.
