Yeah, this one is impressive go check out spaceweather.com. Several full halo CMEs popping off.Since most members here never visit the sub forums y'all need to go read pages three and four of this thread!
According to international news Comms were down yesterday in India, China, and eastern Russia from a previous CME. Four CME's are incoming and will hit tomorrow around 3pm CST.
Solar - Solar Weather and Space News 2024
Gonna start a new solar thread for the new year... this is for solar flares, and the like! First up the Earth got zinged yesterday by a nice sized X-Flare. Meh!I have been following and reading Ben's reports for the past year. Today was the very first time I have ever heard him say he is very concerned about the grid collapsing. He said he was going to get more supplies this morning and he has never said that before. If by next week we are still up and nothing much has happened I would say we missed the bullet by a tiny distance. Be prepared for the CMEs to hit earth this weekend.
Never A Straight Answer (NASA) is now predicting a G4 level Severe Storm Event with auroras visible as far south as Alabama. Impact on HF radio comm's for sure. If these CMEs co-join into a big Cannibal CME as Spaceweather calls it, it could have some impacts but we are not in peak power demand season yet. This in late July-August, yep could be very interesting!aybe
All this worry could be the reason GOLD is up $36.00 as we speakYeah, this one is impressive go check out spaceweather.com. Several full halo CMEs popping off.
Of course, as Shawn in Psych would say "I've seen bigger". lol.
But still, this round IS impressive.
I have my doubts. First off there was just about no one on the planet at that time even knew it happened. As far as I know it only affected telegraph systems, and that wasn't universal world wide. There wasn't the slightest bit of equipment in existence that could monitor or record anything whatsoever.I found one reference to the carrington even that classed it as an X-45 flare.

Active but nothing particularly severe.
There is a Watch for for a G4 or greater event in a day or so.
I don't think so. The world doesn't pay much attention to the sun as long as it comes up in the morning and sets in the evening. PM's continue to climb back up because physical is being bought like never before, and most of it is going East.Satellites? Health problems...?

So it is all supposition, all of it, with no data or real world information to back it up. In addition the Sun, our Sol, is NOT the same as it was in 1859. It isn't the same sun we gazed upon 25 some odd years ago. It is now White. It was Yellow during most of my life.
It changed in the 1990's and most people missed it.
The USA and Europe have differing opinions on how large the massive X class CME of 2004 was. There WAS no X class until only very recently.
The Sun has changed.
If you have a pair of eclipse glasses you can see this current sunspot with the naked "unmagnified eye" still need the eclipse glasses to protect from UV.The Sun Spot that caused the Carrington Event was so large one could see it with the naked eye!
Yes, and I can mention spaceweather.com, and anything else when I think about it and decide to type something. I'm sure out of the thousands of people that drop by here haven't got to all your posts yet, and not everyone reads all of everyone else's posts.I've already posted the spaceweather stuff in the main thread, listed in the OP, and others have posted important data and videos explaining what's happening in that thread as well.
When was the last time that we have experienced an event of this magnitude? The Sun is in the throes of a micronova, it does this every 12.5K years. Hence the change in it's color. The magnetic field of our galaxy is changing directions, there are peer reviewed from various academic journals that have mentioned this. There is plenty of documentation of the Carrington Event if you know where to look.

I was posting on the changes in the Solar System, the magnetic fields, the CMEs, the Earth Changes all the way back to the early 2000's, long long before any and that is any of the current sites existed, and I still look every now and then. The Sun is in the throes of a micronova, it does this every 12.5K years. TnxFrom what I've been reading approximately 12,900 years or so ago. Some say it was closer to 14,000 years ago. Apparently it happens every time our solar system makes the half way point around the galaxy. The cue in the ice ages, depopulation due to starvation and disease, etc.
If I find the threads where we discussed this cyclical event happening I'll try to post the links.

I suspect Packy's husband might not be happy to learn that his wife has Big Boy Pants. I can't say for sure, but I kind of suspect so.Sure thing. You have a real burr up your butt from a couple of months ago when I said "you say tomatoe and I say tomato" when you took umbrage that I didn't recognize you immediately as a Watchman for God Almight.. It's almost like you have been stalking my posts ever since. You've made a couple of snarky remarks since then. I mentioned spaceweather.com, gosh what a crime.
I thought you said you were going to put me on ignore months ago and I said OK. I stay off the majority of threads you post unless I have an interest in that subject. I have no problem staying off your threads and you can stay off mine. I just hope your big boy pants are big enough that you don't run to mods and whine if I start or comment on threads and you complain "I started a thread on that subject 3 years, HE can't discuss the same subject".
You have a very fragile ego. Best of luck when the lights really do go out for real.
So long.

While G-class flares can do some damage, especially to orbital objects or radio transmissions, the real worriers are the X-class flares. If they start being assigned X instead of G, this becomes even more something to watch. Not panic over it, but some precautions like putting a short wave radio in a Faraday Cage would not be a bad idea.
You might be thinking of the wrong interval. Our orbit around the galaxy is 200MY, give or take. From what I've been reading approximately 12,900 years or so ago. Some say it was closer to 14,000 years ago. Apparently it happens every time our solar system makes the half way point around the galaxy.

No faraday cage here, wouldn't even know how to go about getting or making one. If it happens, it happens, nothing most of us can do about solar activities. OC and I were talking about it over lunch and he was like "well at least it's spring, and we have oil lamps and oil for the lamps". I am kind of curious if a Carrington Event were to hit the Americas how that would affect the natural gas supply.
Has the spectral response of color film also changed? So it is all supposition, all of it, with no data or real world information to back it up. That's close to our precession interval.Yeah, you are correct. Now I'll have to go consult my notes on the 23.9K year event...
That's close to our precession interval.
Perhaps disturbing controls or the power for the pipeline compressors? Not sure if those compressors are gas or electric power. If they fail, there will be an eventual effect. No faraday cage here, wouldn't even know how to go about getting or making one. Packy, I just use an old microwave oven. I cut off the cord so that no one ever plugs it in.
In a pinch, you could use your regular microwave oven. Just be sure to unplug it.
Solar Micronova? About 12,000 years ago. When was the last time that we have experienced an event of this magnitude?
How does one test it? Would cutting off the cord, and its ground wire, affect it?This does not work unfortunately. I suggest you try it.
How does one test it?
How about tinfoil? Works on the mind control beams.By putting your cell phone into the microwave oven and close the door. Call it from another line, and if it rings, the supposed faraday cage doesn't work. I have tried this with 4 old microwave ovens and none of them worked to block the signal.
Nope. Doesn't work.Packy, I just use an old microwave oven. I cut off the cord so that no one ever plugs it in.

Rather, I suggest a large metal galvanized trash can with a metal lid. Put your stuff in it, then wrap heavy layers of aluminum foil around the edge of the lid before putting it on the can, making sure to create solid metal seal. Test it using the cellphone method.
