Important Ebola Note

So there is tremendous chatter about this guy from Liberia, and we now have enough of the backstory to see just how maliciously negligent the so-called protection agencies really are. But what I want to focus on is Thomas Eric Duncan – the Liberian who after hauling his sister’s still living yet rapidly disintegrating body to and from the hospital thought it would be a great idea to take a three-legged flight to Dallas, and then just casually forget to mention at the Dallas emergency room the whole “I hauled my sister, dying of Ebola, to and from the hospital a couple of weeks ago.”

There is speculation that Duncan is a psychopathic arch criminal, or that he was recruited by musloids to make the trip. Nope. I doubt this very, very seriously. Then how in the world, you may ask, could he possibly DO THIS? I’ll tell you the likely answer if you really want to know, but I warn you, our culture has conditioned even the “strongest” of you to reject the truth I am about to lay out. Are you sure you want it? Fair warning has been given. Complaints will not be fielded.

The AVERAGE I.Q. amongst Liberians is 67. Anything below 69 is considered severe impairment. Only people who are profoundly mentally retarded, such as with severe Down Syndrome, have lower I.Q. scores, and many folks with milder Down Syndrome actually have I.Q. scores in the 70s and 80s. What we are talking about in Liberia is the AVERAGE IQ of non-impaired human beings. AVERAGE. Which means, by definition, that half the populace is above 67, and half the population is below 67.

CITATION HERE. A ranking of nations by average IQ. Fascinating.

Mr. Duncan, in all likelihood, got on a plane bound for Dallas because all was was thinking was “the Americans will save me”. He gave NO THOUGHT whatsoever to the consequences of his actions or to other human beings, nor did any of his family members, because people who are dim-witted think only about themselves and the immediate gratification of their immediate needs and wants. We see this manifested in our own western cultures, wherein people who OBVIOUSLY have lower I.Q.s are far, far more prone to crime – such as theft – and sexual promiscuity, as well as drug use, because they lack the powers of impulse control and consideration for other human beings that is an undeniable characteristic that goes along with an IQ that is several standard deviations “left” on the bell curve. When all you are capable of pondering is yourself and your own physical pleasure, or the maintenance of your own life, when a person or people is so collectively impaired that thinking through the consequences of actions three or four steps ahead, or of thinking of how one’s actions will affect other people, is almost impossible, then Thomas Eric Duncans happen.

The first step to defending against this reality is to ACKNOWLEDGE IT.

People have been saying for years, “This political correctness is going to get us all killed.”

Yes. Yes, it is.

Now, if you are sitting there squirming thinking that I am being all racist, let me just copy and paste that last sentence and make one little adjustment:

When all you are capable of pondering is yourself and your own physical pleasure, or the maintenance of your own life, when a person or people is so collectively impaired that thinking through the consequences of actions three or four steps ahead, or of thinking of how one’s actions will affect other people, is almost impossible, then contemporary American culture happens.

I wrote this not just to make the point about failing to acknowledge and deal with objective reality, and how that is now LITERALLY going to kill people, I wrote it to hopefully rehabilitate Duncan’s reputation. I doubt he is a psychopath. I doubt he is a terrorist operative. I think he is just a sub-Saharan African who is probably teetering on the precipice of mental retardation, because that is what the odds clearly, clearly dictate.

Where is the info coming from that it was his sister? Everything I've read said it was his landlord's pregnant daughter.

I'm going to have to disagree with Anne here.

Duncan's ticket appears to have been purchased by Silson Global Business Liberia Limited. I don't believe that a contract company for UPS would purchase a round trip ticket for a low level driver, but someone in management could acquire a ticket.

Granted, he may not be a rocket scientist but a total tard he is not. He did know enough to get out of the third world cesspool.

No he would prolly be one of the ones with above average IQ, but that don't mean that others like him won't be coming here, or below average IQ ones either.
If they have the means they will come.

I have to disagree with Ms. Barnhardt. Just because you have a high IQ doesn't make you suddenly care about your fellow man. Nor does it give you a huge burst of common sense. I have a brother that tested very high on his IQ test but is so lacking in common sense that it's scary. This fellow, in my opinion, had the "it can't happen to me" syndrome which most of the world's populous has....especially our fellow Americans.

"In Omnia Paratus" is more than just a phrase
Further, a high IQ isn't a true measure of raw intelligence as Ann is hinting at here, but rather a measure of education level coupled with comprehension of those facts. As desert_fox points out, it also does nothing to measure wisdom or experience.

Simply put, an IQ score is just a number that is meaningless without the rest of the person's personal profile to put that IQ score into perspective.

AVERAGE IQ is 100. Looks like nobody really fares too well in above-average intelligence according to this. Liberia really is low on the list:

#39 Liberia 67 - Average IQ

Most African countries do score pretty low.

Rock bottom (and they likely had some extra credit/points handed to them)

Now why isn't Italy at the very top? It is well known that Italians are simply more intelligent. I suspect those asians were cheating

You should re-read the article.

Lower IQ equates with less impulse control, higher crime, etc.

Africans have lower IQs than those of European descent. Those of European descent have lower IQs than Asians.

Generalizations may only be generally true, but there is a core of truth in there.

Liberians, as a whole, have very low IQs. There are exceptions, but for the most part, it's a country of dullards.

We freely admit that Africans are physiologically different when it comes to leg length, torso size and lung capacity (which makes them better runners). Can't we admit that they're different when it comes to raw intellectual horsepower?

I read somewhere that he is a Liberian National. I seriously doubt he has a low IQ. Do I think that Jihadis will allow themselves to become infected and come to the U.S. to attain their martyrdom and their virgins? Yep. Do I think this man has a low IQ or is a jihadi? NO. Not as of yet.

It is weird, but African IQ scores and real life "smarts" are not equal.

Most know I've lived in Africa for several periods of time, and traveled into "backwater areas".

The people I met are not cognitively impaired with profound mental retardation.

Almost all spoke 3 or more languages, in Ghana and northward they spoke
French, English, and one or more tribal languages.

The marketplace math was quick & efficient, multiplying weight, quantities, and
doing currency exchanges with rapid precision.

In a very remote school I visited, dropping in with 2 days notice, the kids
memorized over half an hour of English dialog of a play to perform.

They walked to school from nearby mud huts, they had no electricity, and
virtually no textbooks, but these Junior High kids put on a comedy sketch
that any college drama class teacher would envy.

Their culture provides a great handicap to scoring well on IQ tests, malnutrition &
disease stunt far too many kids development, yet average African's mental acuity
at solving everyday problems is made evident with just a little
interaction in their communities.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So About Those Exit Questionaires...
Our patient X in Dallas has a bit more color on the case today.
The Liberian authorities say they will prosecute the man diagnosed with Ebola in the US, accusing him of lying over his contact with an infected relative.
When he left the country last month, Liberian national Thomas Eric Duncan filled in a questionnaire saying that none of his relatives were sick.
But Liberia's assistant health minister said he had taken a sick relative to a clinic in a wheelbarrow.
There have been myriad calls to institute quarantines on nations that don't provide any screening of exiting travelers. Ah, you see, but Liberia does. If he had answered "yes" he likely would have been prohibited from leaving until three weeks or so had passed and it was reasonably certain he was clean.
He apparently lied (grossly so, given that it is claimed he took one of his relatives to a hospital in a wheelbarrow!) and thus here we are.
This, fundamentally, is the problem -- you can have all the surveillance of people's conditions you want, but if the person in question isn't sick when they depart and they lie about their contact pattern prior to departure how can you reasonably know they're lying? You will catch some of them, but you need to catch them all.
You can't quarantine everyone coming in for three weeks; you may as well shut the border if you're going to do that. Oh, and about that border -- yes, you could shut down international travel, but what about those damned Mexicans?
This is going to get interesting -- that much is for certain.
There is no change in the fact pattern on the disease itself, however -- it's a relatively poor infectious agent, which is a damn good thing or we'd all be screwed. Yes, you want to pay attention for evidence that this has changed, but beware that you don't take claims for evidence -- they're not the same thing at all, although if you wish to "bug in" right now, have at it.
PS: I'm far more worried about someone who comes here intending to spread the disease than someone who pulls a fast one like this. If he lives he's going to get prosecuted -- and if not, well. Are you willing to seal the border -- all of it, including the Mexican border, with orders to shoot anyone who tries to go through?
If you're not then cut the crap with the half-measures. You either do it or not -- there is no "halfway."
When you contrast 21st Century life in African countries with 21st Century life in European countries and America (which *had* predominantly European ancestry), you'll get whiplash from the comparisons.
One hundred years ago, Detroit wasn't called "The Kenya of the West," but rather "The Paris of the West."
No... "we" can't (or won't).
ETA... Of course, the IQ definition of severe mental impairment will not be the same in our culture as theirs... the list at the link MzKitty posted above does not really go into how that comparison was based. However, it has to have 'some' measure of meaning.
What about rich high IQ people like Bill Gates who wants most of us dead. Many intelligent people think the would would be better off without most of it's population and they only think about themselves. I don't think it is the IQ in your head that makes you think about other peoples' troubles I think it is the GQ (God Quotient) in your heart that commands you love one another.
You mean the Sub-saharans who didn't invent a written language, the wheel, or domesticate animals?
Find a raw intelligence test such as a spatial test or GTest listing and you'll find the same thing. The average brain case capacity in five cubic inches less than a causasian's. That cannot be overcome with anecdotes.
And for the people here who apparently don't understand the term "average", you may wish to look up the definition. Quit pointing out exceptions. They are not the average.
Now, the main point of why I am responding to this thread is that even Ann missed the point. The main reason you will see Ebola in this country is that PEOPLE WILL NOT BUY VACCINATIONS (think of the profit on billions of vaccinations world-wide) UNLESS THERE IS A REAL THREAT WHICH FORCES THEM TO BUY IT.
Follow the money. Always.
Boss, Coworkers of US Ebola Patient: He Knew He Had Ebola, US Trip Was 'Desperate Attempt to Survive'
A Liberian man who traveled to the United States four days before having contact with a symptomatic Ebola victim in Monrovia "knew he had Ebola," according to his former boss as a FedEx contractor who said he abruptly left his job before the incident.
In interviews with the Liberian Observer, one of the nation's largest newspapers, both Thomas Eric Duncan's former boss, Henry Brunson, and an unnamed coworker agree that they believe Duncan knew he had Ebola when he boarded a plane out of Monrovia with a final destination in Texas. Brunson noted that, having come into contact with a pregnant woman who died hours after her interaction with Duncan, he knew of his disease. “If he were in Liberia, he was going to surely die,” Brunson told the paper, saying he was "glad" that Duncan was in a country with adequate medical resources.
Duncan worked as a driver for Brunson at the FedEx contractor SafeWay Cargo until mid-September. According to the Observer, Duncan was involved in a car accident at the end of the tenure at the company, and, according to workers, "having acquired an American visa, he did not care and never returned to work afterwards."
Another unnamed source, described as a FedEx worker in Monrovia, told the Observer that Duncan knew he had Ebola, as well. "A source at FedEx in Monrovia said Mr. Duncan apparently knew he was suffering from the disease and that his best chance of survival was reaching to the United States," writes author Omari Jackson, "a position that a family source denied, when we sought confirmation." The Observer notes that the departure to America, for the source and others consulted, appeared a "desperate attempt to survive."
In previous interviews with sources in Monrovia who know Duncan, the Observer found a witness who claimed Duncan had decided to "just go" to America after receiving a visa to visit family in the United States. The decision to leave his job and abruptly go to America raises questions about whether Duncan intended to honor the provisions of his visa and leave the United States in the alloted time.
Duncan's direct knowledge of whether he had the disease is pivotal to understanding how rigorous screening measures at airports in Monrovia are, as well as whether any guilt can be ascribed to Duncan for knowingly violating any procedures in said screening. The Liberian government has announced its intention to prosecute Duncan for having left the country, stating that it has documentation in which Duncan claimed to have never come in contact with anyone carrying the Ebola virus and that such a lie is a criminal infraction.
Both American and Liberian officials agree that he did not exhibit any outward signs of having contracted Ebola during his airport screening, though debate remains surrounding whether his symptoms upon arriving in a Texas hospital were sufficiently clear that the hospital should have immediately quarantined him, rather than their initial decision to send him home with antibiotics.
The fantasy that many suffering from this disease and their families are entertaining is that there is a cure in the United States. After all, two of our own have been cured. So they believe that if they can just get to our shores (which apparently quite easy for some) they will have a chance.
I have seen many liberal idiots on tee vee stating that we should NOT restrict travel to and from west Africa. (JMHO, but NOTHING good has ever come out of west Africa!). Alan Colmes stated on Fox last night that we don't have anything to worry about. This guy was "screened" before he left and his temp was normal! I cannot believe the ignorance of some people! Well, Mr. Colmes, it may have been normal at his point of origin (if you trust health workers in those countries to be able to read a thermometer), but isn't it like a 12 hour flight? He could have spiked a temp one hour into the flight. If that happened, he could have had the virus and was busy infecting everyone on that flight!
Book smarts and street smarts or common sense are two different things. I know many people who are extremely book smart but struggle with common sense. And vice versa with the street smarts. I know very few that have both in abundance. If they exhibit the ability to do both, they really have to struggle and work hard on their deficient ability. IMHO, it is a measure of maturity to be able to think about someone other than yourself; to be able to exhibit a little bit of self control; and to be able to think ahead and realize consequences of your actions. Babies are born with none of it. But as they mature, ideally they learn to some or all of it. I used to think that everyone given a chance could learn all this. But the last couple of years has shown me that there is at least one race that generally seems unable to mature as needed. Ebola guy, and surprisingly his coworkers, are a prime example of this.
Ann needs to have her stuff reviewed for accuracy, or she could loose credability. She stated "AVERAGE. Which means, by definition, that half the populace is above 67, and half the population is below 67." No it doesn't. That's the median number.
1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 9. Average is 18/10 = 1.8. That is not half above and half below. The median is {(n + 1) ÷ 2}th value, where n is the number of values in a set of data. In order to calculate the median, the data must first be ranked (sorted in ascending order). The median is the number in the middle. Median = the middle value of a set of ordered data.
Although I only have limited experience with actual Africans, as opposed to "African-Americans", and only then with those in the telecommunications engineering field, this was my assumption as well and I'm glad to see someone corroborate my hunch that Africa's low IQ has more to do with a lack of education, malnutrition and diseases than anything to do with an inherited inferiority. Intellectual differences, just like physical differences, stem from their environment and not from their genetic stock.
I sincerely hope they mean four days AFTER having contact.
Also, regarding all the speculation about him having come to the US because he panicked after being exposed to Ebola... I believe he purchased his ticket two weeks BEFORE being exposed. He was already planning to come here, he didn't suddenly get tons of money together in a panic.
Unless the argument is that he was exposed two to three weeks before the contact with the pregnant girl, which is certainly possible.
Find a raw intelligence test such as a spatial test or GTest listing and you'll find the same thing. The average brain case capacity in five cubic inches less than a causasian's. That cannot be overcome with anecdotes.
And for the people here who apparently don't understand the term "average", you may wish to look up the definition. Quit pointing out exceptions. They are not the average.
Now, the main point of why I am responding to this thread is that even Ann missed the point. The main reason you will see Ebola in this country is that PEOPLE WILL NOT BUY VACCINATIONS (think of the profit on billions of vaccinations world-wide) UNLESS THERE IS A REAL THREAT WHICH FORCES THEM TO BUY IT.
Follow the money. Always.
I did talk about all the people that I had met personally,
but the average African does speak three languages.
In Kenya, they learn to read & write 3 languages by law:
English, Swahili, and the local tribal language.
(Not everyone finishes all schooling there, but the number is very high.)
I am saying that even with a smaller brain-case, with a measured IQ of 67, and
with a book & educational media deprived upbringing, the average African is more
than adequate at everyday math and language skills.
They are not at all the same as an American born person with a profoundly
mentally retarded IQ of 67.
(Think of it like a Total Introvert trying to cope in an Extrovert World, the extroverts
keep trying to make the introvert "snap out of it".)
:dot5: We totally agree on the "Follow the money" point!
Although I only have limited experience with actual Africans, as opposed to "African-Americans", and only then with those in the telecommunications engineering field, this was my assumption as well and I'm glad to see someone corroborate my hunch that Africa's low IQ has more to do with a lack of education, malnutrition and diseases than anything to do with an inherited inferiority. Intellectual differences, just like physical differences, stem from their environment and not from their genetic stock.
There is some cultural effect on IQ performance too.
