Don't screw with an engineer
While I did not purchase our Yoder's bacon from Safecastle, I HAVE to at least give Yoder's a plug. There is a LOT of bacon in that little can, and it's VERY good.
It seems expensive for a small can, but it's GOOD BACON and there's a good bit in it. It's already cooked, so you're not spending as much on the "fat" portion, even though there is some fat in there. Enough to be useful! And this keeps for a long time, we've opened cans that are many years old and it's great.

When TSHTF, bacon will be gold, both as a protein item and flavoring to make mundane stuff like beans more palatable. As a barter item, the guy with bacon will be able to set a heavy price.

I have never had anything from Yoder's that wasn't great. Even though I'm not a big hot-dog fan, even their canned hot dogs are really good.

tnphil if you are looking to buy now is the time. We also have can options (6 or 3).

This is definitely good stuff ... and a must-have in the larder. Who doesn't love bacon?

I have a bunch of it ... thinking some might even come in handy as an irresistible barter item.

Safecastle, what is the shelf life (cool, dark place) and how about once opened (in fridge)?

Tnx

Shelf life is 10 years unopened.

Once opened:

Bacon- transfer remaining parchment paper with Bacon into freezer quality ziplock bag, squeeze out all air. Use within 10 days if refrigerated or 2 months if left in freezer.

Other Yoder Meats- transfer remaining meat into storage container, Tupperware, and use within 5 days. You may also freeze remaining meat in an airtight ziplock bag and keep in the freezer and use within 2 months.

Another great review on yoders I purchased this to have on hand for emergencies, but we ordered an extra can to "try it out" ... it is a cut above the "pre-cooked" bacon you can buy in the meat department of your local grocery store. We put it on cheeseburgers, my husband ate it for breakfast (just a few seconds in the microwave) ... and I munched on some of it while I cooked. It's good stuff."

must buy item. As stated bacon is a great flavor enhancer on survival foods. The 10 year shelf life means you need to rotate this stuff.

Though one question to ask, has anyone tried it outside of the 10 year window, and if so have there been any ill effects?

Here's what manufacturer says on post 10 years. We believe, that if stored in a cool dry place, there is no reason why it wouldn't last past 10 years. The guaranteed minimum shelf life is 10 years, but realistically one could expect even 15 and 20 years shelf life."

That is correct, Safecastle--I sold Yoders bacon for many years and as long as the product is stored well, it will stay tasty and nutritious.

Saved, to glorify God.
Is this like the fast food bacon, SLICED SO THIN THAT YOU COULD READ A NEWSPAPER THROUGH IT??
If so, it doesn't matter "how many" paper thin slices are included.

Nope--not thin at all. Precooked so you can eat it right out of the can or warm it up. About 45 strips of bacon per can--9 oz of cooked, drained bacon.

You can take the word of everyone who has tried it or you can buy a few cans yourself. I have never come across anyone who likes bacon at all who was dissatisfied with Yoders bacon ... and I sold several thousand cases of it thru the years.

Trying to hang out with the cool kids.
Finally tried a can!

Having stocked my pantry with Yoder's meats for several years, I finally opened a can of the bacon!

It is wonderful! Opened both ends of can then pushed it out with a spoon.
I put 6 pieces on a paper towel then microwaved for 22 seconds. Perfect!

Not too salty. I would truly recommend this product.
