I didn't know that! I've seen that tat before, the one and only time I ventured into Prairie Meadows (local casino) several years ago to price the New Year's breakfast buffet. A lady had that tat on her arm. I just thought she was majorly into gambling with cards! Wow. Now I know better.

I recommend every woman friend to read an excellent book, The Gift of Fear by Gavin de Becker. Men should read it, too, but it's my experience most men don't seem to tamp down their God-given instincts. I'll be covering this book when we start back with homeschool in a few weeks for a 15 year old young woman.
In it, the author discusses the sort of interactions that Mary and her communist acquaintance had, and how one should view them as warning signals.

I have tried to bring up politics numerous times, but he doesn't respond to me. He changes the subject. I don't want him to know that i am a conservative so i try not to question him. Anyway he just won't talk to me. I think he may suspect me cuz i live in "redneck woods."

I think you are right about those kind of people being master manipulators. I can be sort of naive at times. We never get into lengthy conversations cuz he won't talk politics with me. Like he told me he "visited a friend" in Rochester, but he never said who or why or what his business was. He IS very secretive. There was this innocent hippy guy i had mentioned to him, and he knew the guy. He went crazy asking me all kinds of questions about this guy, how i knew him, if i spent time with him, etc. I couldn't understand why he would want to know things about this hippy guy. I thought that was odd. He grilled me about that guy. This was over the phone a few months ago.

This guy is younger than me at age 50. I doubt he would change. He did tell me though that he helps out in a food pantry and gives food to poor people. Oh, one time he gave me a bag of food. I went to his apt a couple times and the place was thread bare. Little furniture. NO food in the fridge cept for margerine, no salt. Bathroom same....cabinet empty, no soap for hands. No peroxide. A few books on the shelf. The guy lives very poor. I don't know where he gets his money from. He does not work, but he takes care of some big church watching the grounds and get the apt for free.

He texts me now and then and says he wants to see me. I keep making excuses. I only see him once a year. We don't talk on the phone cept for a few times a couple years ago. I know you can never trust a dirty communist.

Yeah, now that i saw him i don't need to see him again. I can keep making excuses. He DOES though seem very curious to see "where i live." He wanted to come here a few times. I keep making excuses. That's understandable, but tgis guy doesn't sound like someone you can have *any* sort of healthy relationship with. Just shut him down... block his number on your phone and use caller ID on your landline... don't answer calls from his number.

Mary, if you are lonely, can you find a safe replacement? I ride on the bike trails with several women I met at a job and at church. We are socially distanced but still not alone. Maybe you have a hobby you could do safely with others or online. I've heard about a crochet group that meets up on Zoom each week.
