Hello 2017. Today is the last day of my employment and I decided not to look for a job until next year.

Well, okay, four days from now.

This might be a good thread for those seeking employment or those looking to hire.

This forum gets a lot of exposure and you never know who might have a lead.

I would recommend if there is any interest either way that people do not post personal information but instead send a private message.

I will go first.

I have done just about everything there is to do at one point in time or another in IT.

My last few decades have been primarily as a Database Administrator specializing in Sybase but also working with Oracle and MS SQL.

I have performed such positions as Infrastructure Engineering, Quality Assurance, System Engineering, Instructor, And Professional Services Consultant and Technical Writer.

I have worked remotely for about 10 of the last 12 years and since I moved to Hill Country in Texas, I am looking to continue to work remotely but I can travel periodically.

If that sounds like a good fit that anyone knows about please feel free to let me know.

Thanks In Advance

Today is the last day of my employment as well. One more "Position Eliminated" to add to the resume. Grieving the loss terribly.

That said, I'm an experienced Executive Assistant seeking a new opportunity in the North suburbs of Chicago. Concerned about ageism but unable to retire at this point, so the search for gainful employment resumes.

dstraito, may God lead us as well as all the others on this board needing work to our next opportunity and may the glory be His. Best of luck to you, my friend.

I don't know about IT, but things are definitely looking up here. The mining industry seems poised to take off big-time again, which means not only mining, processing and transport, but all of the peripherals. I'll dig up some info and post it on it's own thread.

Not trying to expose your location . . . but, your post "things are definitely looking up here" does beg the question, "Where is 'here'?".
Thanx,

Give it until mid January for serious looking. Not much but catch up happens the first two weeks in most corporations.

If you're in the Texas hill country, you're in the Austin area. You should be able to find work easily enough.

My last day is Jan 20. I would really like to do something other than library management. Maybe I will try one of those temp services.

Computer people: Face Poo and Microsoft are expanding big time in the Altoona/Des Moines area. Yes, the winters suck, but the COL is reasonable, and you're 3 hours from Twin Cities and 4 hours from Chicago if you truly need those places.

I'm in my late 50s and have been here for three years now: no major complaints! This is a very livable area if you are 30+. Under 30, you'll probably whine that there isn't enough to do, and that's probably true: it's not a Big 10 college city, by any means. That's why I like it. (-:

put a resume up on careerbuilder/monster/glassdoor/indeed and let the bodyshops come looking for you. Right now until things start stabilizing seriously consider the outsourcing/offshoring companies. They're messed up, however benefits are good and its a stable paycheck until you can find what you want.

No excuses now, it is 2017. Good advice compchyk, I have a Dice and LinkedIn, I'll expand to a few others.

Most of the jobs I ever got were from networking

Bump, just in case some one has knowledge of a job that could benefit a forum member, ya never know.

Many of the jobs I have gotten in my long and illustrious career were from networking.
