Several shoppers have been injured in an explosion in a busy shopping area in St Petersburg.

Russian newspaper Fontanka reports that at 10 people were injured in the blast, and one person is believed to be in a serious condition.


The explosion is thought to have happened in the storage area of a supermarket.

It is not yet known what caused it, although it is being treated as deliberate attempt to kill, according to reports in Russia.

An official told TASS news agency: “There was a bang. Emergency personnel are already on the scene. The evacuation has been completed, and there was no fire."

Dozens of police and ambulance crews descended on the busy location.

The explosion happened at around 6.30pm local time, and Russia's Interior Ministry told TASS that people had been injured.

It happened at one of the busiest times of the year, in the build up to New Year celebrations.

Emergency service sources have told Russian media that the force of the explosion was the equivalent to around 200g of plastic explosive TNT.

Sounds like Putin was unable to snag all the cells. I am glad we gave them usable intel but sad it wasn't enough. Maybe if we could get some of the Demorats out of the way we could cooperate in a more effective manor in dealing with terrorist? Maybe the real terrorist are the Demorats?

MOSCOW — Russian news reports say at least four people have been injured by an explosion at a supermarket in St. Petersburg.

Russian news agencies quoted St. Petersburg's branch of the Emergencies Ministry as saying that a device containing 200 grams of explosives went off on Wednesday at a storage area for customers' bags.

No one has claimed responsibility for the explosion at the market in the city's northwest Kalininsky district.

The Investigative Committee has sent experts to look into the explosion.

Russian President Vladimir Putin telephoned U.S. President Donald Trump earlier this month to thank him for a CIA tip that helped thwart a series of bombings in St. Petersburg.

In April, a suicide bombing in the St. Petersburg's subway left 16 people dead and wounded more than 50.

ST. PETERSBURG, Russia (AP) — At least 10 people were injured Wednesday by an explosion at a supermarket in St. Petersburg, Russia's second-largest city and the site of a deadly subway bombing this year.

The Investigative Committee, the nation's top investigative agency, said a device containing 200 grams (7 ounces) of explosives went off at a storage area for customers' bags. It said the device was rigged with shrapnel to cause more damage.

No one has claimed responsibility for the explosion at a branch of the Perekrestok supermarket chain in the city's northwest Kalininsky district.

Alexander Klaus, the chief of the local branch of the Investigative Committee, said 10 people were hospitalized with injuries.

Andrey Kibitov, a spokesman for St. Petersburg's governor, tweeted that the injured were in satisfactory condition and one had been discharged from the hospital.

A criminal investigation was launched.

While officials stopped short of branding the explosion as a terror attack, the National Anti-Terrorism Committee that oversees anti-terror efforts in Russia said it was coordinating the search for suspects.

Viktoria Gordeyeva, a St. Petersburg resident who walked past the supermarket shortly after the explosion, said people were afraid to enter other stores in the area.

"There was no panic, but people were reluctant to enter a nearby drug store and a grocery store," Gordeyeva said.

Another local resident, Marina Bulanova, a doctor, heard the explosion and rushed to the market to help treat anyone who might be hurt. She said ambulance crews already had taken those injured to city hospitals by the time she got there.

The Federal Security Service, or FSB, said seven suspects linked to the Islamic State group were arrested in connection to the alleged plot. The Kremlin said the arrested suspects had planned to bomb St. Petersburg's Kazan Cathedral and other crowded sites.

In April, a suicide bombing in the St. Petersburg's subway left 16 people dead and wounded more than 50. Russian authorities identified the bomber who blew himself up on a subway line as Akbardzhon Dzhalilov, a 22-year old Kyrgyz-born Russian national.

Pride comes before the fall.....Pride month ended.
Within the day of a bomb going off they have determined the bombs accelerant and it's size. That's impressive, but I suspect easy science based on shrapnels effects and chemical testing for the accelerant. It seems fair to say they know this due to the size mentioned. And there was massive amounts of a certain thing called thermite at the twin towers site, yet dismissed by all......... thermite does not just appear. Never forget the inside job our government performed against it's own citizens. About time to see a nuke go off in Charleston, if one is to take Lindsey Graham for his word, given Trumps successes. The right is showing a rally toward to Trump. I think it has everything to do with being able to say, "they had seen his success, and had come to see he was a great man, God rest his soul". Hope Trump stays alive for a long long time, yet I suspect the odds makers in Vegas aren't going out on a limb here.
