Food How to last food wise when things collapse

All except the white ants.

I have lived for months on maggot as my only protein.

Duckweed I have been playing with for years,

Worms I have played with for years. Also eaten them.

Maggots produce like mad. Very similar to egg protein. Can be dried.

I have chickens but expect to have them stolen when the curtain goes down.

Why do you expect to have them stolen? You only have a few banties right. Keep them in the house and bring the food to them. That is what has been done in the past.

You seem very accepting of people stealing your stuff. Got any means to defend yourself?

The numbers are growing at the moment. 20 and growing.

Quail I think are more the go inside. http://www.thepoultrysite.com/articles/607/raising-japanese-quail/

I raised quail for a couple of years. I built little quail tractors out of old lobster traps. Biggest problem with them was they do not set so you are going to have to figure something out for replacements. The eggs are fantastic pickled. It takes a lot of them to make much of anything though. The meat is delicious and it takes about a minute to process them with just a pair of scissors. I quit with them because I had to incubate and it didn't fit with my goals. I suppose if you have broody hens you could use them to set.

Thats how it happened for me. Eating cold MRE's straight from the pouch was more doable with the whole bottle of tabasco on it. Turns out that tabasco mini bottles are a gateway hot sauce.

all those condiments with a vinegar base last forever and don't need refrigeration - it might get down to gill netting little tweety birds and some BBQ sauce will be a God sent ....

We have pork on the hoof, and I'm always worrying about people steeling a pig or two and that is in good times. In bad times they will be gone and we won't be able to do anything about it.

We only eat about one and a half meals a day anyway and it cuts down on comsumption.
