How to help Texas? Chad Prather offers some specific suggestions. He talks about who needs what and where. He innumerates smaller groups, hospitals, shelters, food banks and charities and what they are doing right now to help the citizens of Texas in their local communities effected by the hurricane and surrounding areas helping to support them. He also makes suggestions for what individuals can do like care for pets until they can be reunited with their owners. Have your pencils ready. He talks fast and is on a roll. Also a prayer or two sent their way probably wouldn't hurt either. - OGM

Thanks OGM. I will watch when I get home. On the news today Fox reported shelters are begging for LARGE sized clothing, 2X, 3X, 4X and beyond.

I'm going to make a trip to our Goodwill during lunch and pick up as many extra large sized clothing, bras, underwear, etc. that my budget can afford.

Socks in assorted sizes may come in handy to. Disposable diapers are also needed.

Another suggestion - Cajun Navy or other volunteers with boats needing gas.

Got this off their Facebook page:
http://www.louisianacajunnavy.org/
(link just goes to a donation page)

We have a local church taking a large truckload of donations on Friday. We were told water and canned food (that is ready to eat immediately) plus can openers are some of the top needs.

During Katrina, artist friend was working in the shelters. Rest of us collected boxes full of things to keep kids busy - quick stuffed toys, blankets with satin edges, coloring books and crayons, simple small games. Mostly dollar store stuff - but I got a few sororities on campus involved too.

Things like this are really rough on kids. Especially if they've survived with the clothes they're wearing and no toys.

I got this bit of info off of the Louisiana Cajun Navy's Facebook page...

Anyone seeking shelter for their horses!!
Ralph and Tamara Hampton. 3.5 miles north of Humble, Texas. 100 acres of fenced in pasture available. Rolling hills, lots of trees and grass. Non-Flooded property! Bring feed if you can, but if not, your horses will not go hungry! Please call or text for more information. 936-201-6642.

Humble, Texas? Really? At first I thought we were being punked, but there really is a Humble, Texas. Thought it had to be an oxymoron. No offense meant :)

I tried calling the 2N1 Feed & Seed in Humble, Texas, (281) 446-0399 to see if they were known customers and if I could charge a sack of clean oats or Horse feed and have it either picked up by or delivered to Ralph and Tamara but only got the whine of a fax machine. Maybe try again tomorrow? Have this thing about horses.

Don't the Bush's (Or at least W) have a ranch between Houston and Dallas? Any word from them on holding people's horses from the flood? Or helping out in any way???

There are now a couple of places in TX that are offering pasture for horses, etc., as well as in Oklahoma and Kansas. These place are also offering a spot for horse owners to park their campers so they can stay with their horses.

I don't know if they still have the "ranch" or not. I know Laura was on one of the talk shows and said she wanted to sell the place and relocate her and George to the Dallas.

VP Pence was just on the Hannity radio program. He gave a website of an assortment of charities that are sending aid to the devastated areas. Unfortunately I was driving and now that I'm at the computer I can't remember what it was. Did anyone else catch it?

The Dollar Tree is exactly what the doctor ordered for this type of stuff, you can buy one heck of a lot of fun kid things for $100, along with toiletry items and hair care.

Samaritan's Purse (Franklin Graham's org) is already serving the people in Rockport. They give over 96% of each dollar donated.

I called Purina. I told them when I used to go on harley thanksgiving rides and christmas rides, everyone bought holiday food for the sponsored families.
My wife and I always asked if the families had pets and what types. We would buy 50 pound bags of food.
My pets are part of my family.

Purina told me that food was already on the way.

This is good to hear, sure it's a tax write off for the businesses, but it's good to know that pet food is on it's way to disaster zone for all of God's four legged creatures.

The best thing you can do is send money to whatever organization you choose. It allows them to purchase what they need and not get burdened with items they don't. If an organization asks for items then send only what they ask for. Don't send extra items.

Pride comes before the fall.....Pride month ended.
Watched America's got talent tonight. They are fund raising for the red cross. I find that amusing.

The Red Cross pays it's CEO out the ass..... their ratio is considerably lower than Samaritan Purse. Again, it makes sense that Hollywood would align with a joke of an organization like the Red Cross, stroking each other I think.....part of the game. I was once on the board of the local Red Cross, everything was about fund raising.

My company donated $25,000 and is matching up to $25,000 from employees so I kicked in a few bucks. Not much else I can do.

Since they are turning away supplies from civilians it makes it difficult to take real action. My uncle drove a 24" box truck down to Katrina with supplies but i don't remember if they were turned away or not. THAT would be something I could really get behind if I had the wherewithall. Work, life and money prevent me from doing that but even more that they are turning away volunteers. Right there makes it VERY difficult to volunteer. It would suck big time if we drove a truck down there only to be turned away. TPTB are playing really dirty pool to prevent grassroots volunteers from helping.

The public should send a message directly to Trump about that. I would bet he would do an EO that stops the NG et.al., from preventing Americans from helping. It really sticks in my craw.

Would it be legal for the company to get a detailed truck manifest for the supplies, call a church, shelter, etc down there and have them pay (I know that goes against the grain) $1 for the supplies and $1 for shipping and handling charges? Then they could "take delivery" of their "order". Wait that would loose the tax write off for the company. Could they donated the supplies to a specific local charity and have the Charity pay $1 in shipping fees so they can take delivery of their property. So maybe it could be covered by the ICC? Do the bureaucrats have the ability to legally disrupt interstate trade and commerce? Sadly these days a good, competent lawyer is needed to answer questions like these.

I would never donate to the Red Cross for any disaster; the administration is very well paid; some money is filtered down.....there were other better organizations to donate to.....

Here when we had the Yuba City flood, we donated diapers, wipes, and cleansing items. but never money. We do not donate money to any group. We pay taxes which is part of FEMA, we've already given.

IMO do not donate to Red Cross/United Way/or any heavy admin. "charity".......past experience shows little $$ actually are placed where needed in the right hands.........most believe in "trickle down theory" but first it goes through corporate IMO.........

Samaritan's Purse is excellent and has integrity..........there are others........do your own research for comfort of mind

Another good one is Oathkeepers. They are providing direct help with boats, medical help, communication help, search and rescue and providing security to the Cajun Navy, as some of the boats have come under attack by looters. One Oathkeeper member provided 12,000 MRE's from his business to help local residents.

Article here about what they are doing: https://www.oathkeepers.org/urgent-call-to-action-texas/

Direct link to donation page: https://www.oathkeepers.org/product/texas-hurricane-relief/

They claim 100% will go to relief aid.

This evening my community picked and filled a semi with fresh sweet corn that is already on the road to Texas.

We also have some people, with family in South Texas, gathering clothing to make the trip soon.
