I usually plant by the moon, but I've got the Spring antsies going on! Central Indiana here, and our sweet tater tubers jumped the gun and stared sprouting last month. What's a plant mama to do? They wanted to LIVE!
I watched the Rusted Gardner on Youtube and tried his method for getting slips ( laying the mature tuber half buried in soil) and wow. It worked in spades. Enough they started to get away from me, so I trimmed the worst offenders to root up in a jar of water....and boom. And more slips grew. So I need to get them in dirt asap, in some big Solo cups.....and maybe put them in the greenhouse, in a few days. Its WAY too early in Indiana to plant outside.
But....that Almanac sternly warns there are no good planting days for four or so more days. But....the jungle in my baby plant area is getting out of hand, and looking stressed! So....will there be serious repercussions if I'm a almanac calender rebel?????
