Prep Genrl How many coffee filters do you keep on hand?

We use the unbleached brown ones and I keep a running amount of about 600. They aren't expensive, well the are a bit more than the white ones, but I haven't used white ones in maybe 40 years.

I do have a good supply of the white ones, but even they have gone up in price. They can be used for other things than filtering coffee.

I'd have to go look but right off the top of my head we have 2 full boxes of white and a half box of the brown. We used the white one in preschool for snacks, one year we had a parent give us at least 40 boxes of them. We used them for snacks, crafts and drink coasters. LOL

I use the #4 cone shaped for everyday coffee and keep several hundred of those. I keep probably 1000 of the round standard filters in preps in case I ever need to filter water for survival. I plan to pre-filter the big stuff out of say pond water before putting in the Berkey filter to make potable. Like you said nomifyle ... they are relatively cheap to keep on hand and have multiple uses.

Typically about a 2-year supply. This will far outlast the stock of coffee we have on hand, but keep them because they are so useful in other ways (such as a pre-filter for water). However, just before the start of the pandemic we increased it to almost a 3-year supply. Haven't decided which way I'm going to go with it yet, from there.

Also got some of the reusable kcup containers as a backup (but they are a pain to use).

Only one pack left and I am rapidly going through it. I cut them down and use them in my French Press.

I have five sealed packs that each have at least 150 in them. As I use one, I will replace it. We use the white ones I just got two packs from dollar general (1.65 each) and then two more from dollar tree (1.25 each).

a few thousand in my water treatment supplies - best pre-treat filter around >>> you'd be surprised how much they filter even from a municipal supply tap ...

I keep a supply of the large restaurant "Bund" size filters for DIY desiccant packs - holds a 1/4 cup of silica gel and has plenty of filter left for tying off the bundle >>> it's a handy size for most bucket applications ...

We use the 12 cup basket style white paper coffee filters. I buy the 700 count packages. I've got a whole cabinet full of those size packages, so I've got 1000's. If we have to also use them for filtering water, we wanted to have plenty in storage. Like everything else, when I open a new package, I buy/replace with a new package.

This thread spurred me to pick up another pack yesterday from the dollar (1.25) tree. Hubby gave me a hard time (not in an ugly way, just teasing), and I smiled and said “I’ve got nothing in comparison to my prepper group”. I think I’ll get a could more on the next shopping trips. Ha

This too shall pass.
I've been making coffee in the Teapot, making it like tea (doesn't give me the shakes like regular coffee does), so I'm not using filters. But I do have a few left in the pantry, and had been wondering what to use them for. I see a few good ideas here!

Another thing that I appreciate about this site and the folks on it. This thread reminded me that I need an alternate way of making real coffee (Instant is truly FWTSHTF, ;) ) and as a part of that, paper filters have many uses.

We have a hundred or so, last time we used them was when the wife home brewed Limoncello. As I don’t drink any longer, I didn’t try it, but she liked it and the comments from those gifted were very good.

Best,

DH made camp coffee on the wood stove once in the winter. I thought it was disgusting and would not drink it. I have several other ways to make coffee, but not perked for me. I grew up with one of those big aluminum drip pots. Maybe the reason I don't like perked coffee is because I like a really bold coffee, a la New Orleans coffee.

I just found 2 packs in the weirdest places....I might be hiding them, from me!!!
Ha! My first thought reading the thread title was "do I include the full case of small ones I bought that completely disappeared?! I had a storage closet where I kept stuff like that. .. cheesecloth for cheese making, swiffer pads, vacuum cleaner bags, grain mill, etc. Everything was always purt away as soon as I brought it home or unpacked it. So, when I needed a new pack a few months later and emptied the entire closet without finding them, I was confused!

To this day, they've never reappeared!

I can’t say what DH has for his French press set up since I don’t drink coffee or pay much attention. But our coffee maker that he used to use and we use for company now has a fine mesh filter that doesn’t need a paper one. You do need to take care of it but we’ve had it at least 15+ years with some frequent use before DH became a coffee snob.
