A Wesley Chapel, Florida, homeowner shot and killed two out of three home invasion suspects Friday morning.

Fox 35 reports that the homeowner was playing video games when he heard glass breaking just before 1:00 a.m. He retrieved a gun and shot one suspect in a hallway, then fired again when a second suspect allegedly appeared in the hallway with a gun.

Sheriff Chris Nocco says the suspect fired his gun, then it jammed. The homeowner shot him. Then a third suspect appeared in the hallway. The homeowner shot the third suspect as well.

The homeowner’s gun then jammed and he went to grab another gun. When he returned he saw that the third suspect had gotten up and fled the scene.

The Tampa Bay Times reports that the first gun the homeowner retrieved was a Glock 19 and the second was a Kriss Vector 10mm semi-automatic rifle.

Two of the three suspects died at the scene. The third was hospitalized.

Does that kick when you shoot it? I've been craving an Academy 357 (it does not kick in this old lady's hand with a 38 load) until I saw this.
The Kriss is supposed to not have hardly any recoil as it’s action is total different that a standard SMG...

A happy ending, depending on how the DA sees things. I’ve thought we need more carbine/pistol platforms in 10mm. 9mm and 45ACP don’t really jazz me in a carbine platform. Didn’t know the Kriss was available in 10mm. I need to check that out.

OK, one CRITICAL part of the story is not being shouted aloud.

Again we have to look overseas to get the whole picture. I'll post then highlight what I mean.

From the DailyMail:

He grabbed his gun and went to investigate.

The sheriff believes that the owner may have been targeted because he had recently posted pictures of a large gun collection he owned on social media.

Further investigation revealed Trammel, Casado and Durham knew the homeowner personally and he knew them, although no more details were revealed.

Trammel has been charged with home invasion robbery but also faces the murder charges for the deaths of Casado and Durham.

How come the UK Daily Mail has more information on the perps and background than the local media? The names don't match the initial home invasion scenario. The perps could have been locals looking to settle a score with the victim.

Although they get a lot of press, random “home invasions” are still rare. Most are targeted for one reason or another.

Predators hunt where their preferred prey is. There are no "good areas" within a tank of gas of 'bad areas.'

Increasingly I hear stories of home invasion packs, not just individuals. Be prepared for multiple assailants from multiple directions. Even a small dog in your living area can be a huge asset.

Social media, isn't. Might as well post COME ROB ME signs.

Life on the two-way range sure gets interesting. More and more people are going to have that experience as time wears on Wearing a gun in your home is not paranoid any more..

Don’t let the Piss Ants get you down…

More of the story. Neighbor helped to catch the one that tried to get away.

THAT’S a good neighbor!

REVOLVERS CAN JAM ALSO. And when a revolver jams - either from recoil moving a bullet forward in the case, backing a primer out of its pocket, or a squib load... it is REALLY jammed. Semiautos are easier to clear as a rule, except for squibs.
Been there, done that.

And it's not as bad with a S&W. The bullet forward, rotation of the revolver, and opening the revolver are both towards the same side (right). A Colt rotates the other way, but also opens to the right.

If I understood that right, there were two gun jams? One by the perp, and another by the homeowner? If true that is a lot of jams for one incident.

Makes one wonder if anyone heard of cleaning a firearm?

I've seen it twice at the range in 30 years, both due to faulty reloaded ammunition.

You know, I see this Pavlovian response EVERY SINGLE TIME a revolver is mentioned. Well, let’s look at it statistically. Using FACTORY LOADS, a semi-auto might jam once every 500 rds (WAG) , while a revolver might jam once every 5,000.

I’ll take the revolver thanks.

I've seen it twice at the range in 30 years, both due to faulty reloaded ammunition.

I saw a squib load in a revolver where the projo was only pushed into the barrel / cylinder gap. That gun was locked until a cleaning rod and mallet was used to drive the projo back into the cylinder.

I've seen several instances where the cylinder rod was backed off slightly, and jammed the turn of the cylinder, as well as making it quite difficult to swing the cylinder out of the frame.

Generally, Revolvers are quite reliable, as are quality semi-auto pistols. Feed them good ammo, do proper maintenance, and the odds are you'll do fine.

BUT, train to deal with the inevitable mechanical problems which will eventually occur, because no device designed by humans is Perfect, regardless of marketing materials tell you.

Not in the least Pavlovian. EXPERIENCED. At least on the flat range. You got me started trying to estimate how many rounds I have seen go downrange in training and I doubt I can get close.

And fwiw I often carry a no-lock S&W 642CT my own self. With moderate factory loads. Magnumitits is what seems to jam revolvers. Bad ammo, bad magazines, getting stuff in the way of the slide and improper/inadequate grip by the shooter seem to get semis most often.

But I don be knowin nothin bout no fahrarms.

I’m betting the issue in the OP for both shooters was limp-wristing under stress. Revolvers don’t care about that, hence my comment.

Nah. Awerbuck carried a Glock as a second gun sometimes. Farnham did too, in one class anyway.

Thanks but that only solves part of the problem.

Google "Glock Slide Assist" (Glock has the most aftermarket support, due to its ubiquity).
Here are a couple of the various slide assists out there (the best ones probably replace the rear plate on the slide):
