Hollywood studios have received the green light to make COVID-19 vaccinations mandatory for on-set work thanks to a new agreement with the unions that will potentially force tens of thousands of actors and crew members to get the vaccine if they wish to work in the industry.

Hollywood’s unions — including SAG-AFTRA, the Teamsters, the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE), and other craft guilds — have reached a tentative agreement with studio representatives on COVID-19 safety guidelines, including a section that allows productions to mandate vaccinations, according to a statement sent to multiple news outlets.

“Producers will also have the option to implement mandatory vaccination policies for casts and crew in Zone A on a production-by-production basis,” the statement said.

The agreement will remain in effect through September 30, at which time the studios and unions will reassess the situation.

SAG-AFTRA counts 160,000 members while IATSE is estimated to have more than 140,000 members.

The decision raises ethical issues over medical privacy and whether private companies can compel employees to undergo medical procedures.

Hollywood appears to be the first U.S. industry to implement such a blanket vaccination mandate.
At the height of the pandemic, the entertainment industry received special exemptions from California’s lockdown orders, which devastated other industries and numerous small businesses.

Studios including Netflix, Disney, and Paramount reportedly hired pricey lobbyists to persuade Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) to declare the entertainment industry as “essential” and thus exempt from lockdown.

It already happened. My D works special effects on the E. Coast. She was required to vax before showing up at work; testing like every other day, working in 90+ heat & humidity outdoors or in buildings with no a/c - fully masked. She's pretty sure she's not pursuing that career anymore despite the paycheck.

Yes, I see that it is a good idea, on so many levels for these evil minions to have to do this...but bottom line: no, I cannot agree. This should NOT be permitted/enforced in America. Change it back!

Perhaps these things will get made in other, more friendly states?

All those dues going to all those entities....

She's going to quit after submitting to her employer's demands?
That don't make no sense ... should she experience complications
aren't employers now liable for such demands?

She might oughta reconsider ....
