[HLTH] Need supplement advice

What are some good sources to buy vitamin supplements? I am in need to buy some CoQ10 and I don't know what brand is the best to buy at a reasonable price. I couldn't believe the prices our health food store wanted. I had to walk away without any. Are any of the brands at WalMart safe and effective? I've been having a major battle lately with blood pressure problems. I can't seem to keep it level. The doctor has me on Tenormin, BusPar, a water pill, and Zoloft to try to get it stabilized. I get the least bit anxious over something and boom, its up to 160/108 as an average high. So, I really feel like maybe the CoQ10 might help. Any suggestions would sure be appreciated.

We get our vitamins from Swanson. They have a website: http://www.swansonvitamins.com

The vitamins at Walmart are in tablet form and do not disolve very well. I have never bought herbs or other supplements from them. Most of the vitamins at Swanson are gel or capsule form. They do have CoQ10 which we recently started taking. I can not say if it will help you any. I suggest you do some research on it before you start taking it to make sure it (or other herbals/supplements) will not effect your prescription medications.

I use Andrew Lessman supplements. I get them from his website called Your Vitamins or from HSN. He uses high quality, no fillers,no artifical ingredients and they don't upset your stomach. His capsules are either a fine powder or liquid.

It's my understanding the CoQ10 is a primary supplement for the heart not really blood pressure. I think Japan has the corner on the process which may be one reason it's so expensive, been costly for years. I personally like the Solaray brand supplements, they contain what the label says in the appropriate amounts and the supplements are mostly standardized as to potency. A really good herb for blood pressure regulation is plain ginger in a capsule. regulates both hypo and hyper within 10 minutes or so with no residual effects on the other body systems and seems to be a long lasting result.

I order from Puritan's Pride, www.puritan.com. They have really good sales, sometimes even Buy 1 Get 2 free. I've never had a problem with them, and my Dad ordered from them for years before he died.

Thanks for all the links. I will check them all out. I plan on working fast on this so I can try to get things under control.

I was thinking WalMart's products aren't the best in the world, so thanks Yellow Springs for giving that tip.

Yet another vote for Swanson's. I just called them today after my L-carnatine tablets started to disintegrate. They told me they are formulated to dissolve easily and may deteriorate if exposed to moisture for more than a few days. I guess the record heat & humidity here over the past few days did in the ones in my vitamin organizer.

Anyways, after explaining to me that they must be kept dry, Swanson's then offered to send me a bottle of 100 L-carnatine capsules to replace the tablets for free. They are on the way, and Swanson paid the shipping as well. This is typical of thier great customer service. I would not buy from anyone else because of this and the overall high quality of thier products.

My DH has high blood pressure and he takes Hawthorne which he gets locally. It really works, his initial blood pressure was higher than yours and he's down in the normal range now. It's not that cheap, but we figure it will be cheaper in the long run.

COQ10 is for your heart and also works really well for your gums.
