[hlth] Help needed for natural remedies

I am in need of some suggestions for mentrual cramps? I cannot take Motrin or Aspirin anymore and was wondering if there is something herbal that can be taken?

Also, does anyone have any suggestions for what to do about a bone spur on the bottom of the heel? It is causing my toes to be numb and the rest of my foot and leg to be in pain. I just had this diagnosed yesterday at the doctor's office and he didn't offer any suggestions at all about what could be done for it. Maybe nothing can I don't know. Anyway, if anyone knows of something that might help I would really appreciate it.

Thanks

Wish I could help (((Angel Lady))) .....I'm still in the very beginning stages of learning about herbs and uses, though.

I'm sure you'll get responses soon, there are some very knowledgeable folks on here with this as their specialty.

Angel Lady, you might PM MtnGal and ask her. I just read on the prep thread that she is a very accomplished herbalist and I bet she could help.

If you have a bone spur on your heel, see a podiatrist. I have them and have had no trouble since I was fitted with an orthotic device (kind of a molded insole). If your doctor says "nothing can be done", I'd get a second or even theird opinion.

I don't have any suggestions on the menstrual cramps but follow up with some of our more accomplished herbalists here.

I pm'd you some reflexology charts. Hope it helps. I agree with freebyrd, those hard plastic insoles help my heels but take a little getting used to.

Thanks all for the pm's and the information. I appreciate your help.

I will go to a podiatrist, thanks for that suggestion.

And I do also plan on trying the reflexology too.

I had a heel spur back in 1990 and was fitted with an orthotic also, which really helped the situation. However, in 1997, I started taking glucosamine for hip bursitis (the result of an accident) and not only did my hip get all better, but my heel spur seems to have disappeared! I don't even have to wear orthotics anymore, just good shoes.

As far as the menstrual cramps, the good old standbys calcium and magnesium are helpful and according to my "Prescription For Nutritional Healing" book, black current, evening primrose, or flaxseed oil are needed, as well as B-complex, B12, and vitamin E, among other things. That's what I use!

Thankyou Plantlady, I have some glucosomine sitting in my cabinet now. I will start taking it right away, it sure won't hurt and it might help....wow, that would be great.

A cream or tea with cramp bark, lady's mantle and rasberry leaf would all help you. Cramp bark will take the cramping away and the lady's mantle and rasberry leaf would tone your reproductive system and bring it into balance.

As far as the bone spur, I made a cream for someone with that problem once. She said it really helped her and I ended up giving her the link to Christopher's site to order it from them. It was the BFC formula (bone, flesh & cartilage) and here's the info on that...

Hope that helps.

Im no expert on this subject, but my DW applies a hot water bottle to her abdomen for cramps. No idea if it works or not, she says it helps her though.

Thanks for that tip. My dh has heel spurs. Maybe he'll want to try glucosamine now. The only other thing the podiatrist has recommended for him is surgery to shave the spurs off or some such invasive solution. :shk:

Angel Lady, I do feel your pain. I suffered with cramps many years and did what Smokesalot said - placed heat on abdomen. I also found that taking 2 1/2 pills of Alleve made a big difference, but only if I took the medicine at the very onset of the period. If I waited until the cramping got bad, it did not help as much.

Now, I'm in the perimenopausal time of life and I'm finding the following herbs to be of magificent help:

Black Cohosh
Vitex (chasteberry)
Promensil (plant estrogens and red clover)

It is amazing just how effective herbs can be. I hope the best for ya. ;)
