…… Herbal Tamiflu Question

Down on the Farm...
I sent Mom to the hospital last night with flu symptoms and labored breathing. My brother (special needs) is sick too and I'm here caring for him. I'm sick this morning , sore throat and feeling bad. I'm giving us Elderberry , pushing fluids etc.

I made the herbal version of Tamiflu using Star Anise but how much is a dose and how often? I don't want to waste it by taking more than necessary. Thank you in advance!

Hi,

Prayers heading upstairs for your family.

Could you please post the herbal Tamiflu recipe you are using when you get a chance - no rush. I have not heard of this one and am very interested and I have Star Anise in my cupboard.

Thank you
I used directions off YouTube for mine and it's as simple a Elderberry tincture. Fill a jar full of the Chinese Star Anise.
Then fill to top with 90 proof vodka. Store in the dark and shake when you think of it. Mine sat like that for a year before needing it.

Star Anise is full of Shikimic acid, a powerful antiviral, bactericide and antifungal. The green balls off a sweet gum tree can also be used but have less of the active compounds.

For a video, go visit Green Gregs page on YouTube. Hope that helps!

I have stuff that I made from the sweet tree gum balls. But my research showed that it's better extracted as a tea. So I did both. I have an alcohol extract. And several canning jars full of the tea extract (and canning sealed).

Have you ever made fire cider? It’ll melt the hair off your tongue, but the burn means it’s working, right? ;)

This is the recipe I’ve used.

Per Quart Jar:

  • 1 medium onion, diced (we prefer sweet yellow or white)
  • 4 to 5 cloves of garlic, chopped
  • 3 to 4 tbsp fresh grated horseradish
  • 3 to 4 tbsp fresh grated ginger root
  • Raw unpasteurized Apple Cider Vinegar – Enough to fill the jar & submerge the other ingredients. We needed just under a full 32 oz bottle per half-gallon jar
  • Raw honey, local if possible – added later, see the instructions below
  • Cayenne pepper, also added later

Optional:

  • 3 to 4 tablespoons fresh grated turmeric rhizome (substitute equivalent in teaspoons if using turmeric powder)
  • 1 lemon and/or orange, per quart. In this batch, we used 2 lemons, 1 orange, and 1/2 a grapefruit per half gallon. You can juice and zest them, or just slice and throw in whole. We did the latter, but removed the grapefruit rind to save space in the jar. Grapefruit rinds can also be extra bitter, so keep that in mind.
  • Fresh herbs like rosemary, thyme, oregano or lemongrass, to taste preference – a few sprigs per jar is good!
  • Hot chilis – at least one per jar, scaling up for larger batches or for a heat-loving taste preference.
  • Black pepper. A pinch of peppercorns or few dashes of ground pepper to each jar.

I've done the same...have you had a chance to try the Sweetgum tincture or tea yet?

It smells wonderful! Lol
Not yet. We've been amazingly healthy the last few years with a few exceptions. So I haven't had a chance to try it since it was made. But it's on the shelf in case it is needed.

Hope things are looking up for you, Kathy. I was just thinking of you yesterday, and said an extra prayer, but hadn't yet tracked down your latest comments to see how things were going.

I'd really like to know how you first extracted the shikimic acid from the Star anise (or did you recombine it from e. coli?) and then how you performed the synthesis into oseltamivir phosphate.
A smartass is required in every post. Congrats! lol

I was in a few stores today. Never heard anything like it. So many coughing and sneezing. People sound sick. Some of it could be the heat being on recently, too. People getting used to that. BUT, influenza b is going around I am hearing.

checked in 40 packages of 10 day courses because one person tested positive for Influenza. Doc put everyone on it.
Yeah. We have almost everyone on it also. Flu has spread through here like wildfire. As far as I know, it’s all been Type A.

Oh, and now COVID is back. Two that we know of.

We have had visitors out the yin-yang. So if they aren’t bringing it in, they are taking it into the community. Funny how they rarely come until times like these. Oh well. You tell them and I guess they all have been vaxxxed because they come in anyway.

RSV is really bad - according to my daughter who is in the lab at a major hospital - as is a virus that mimics both covid and the flu.

DH and I talked about this just yesterday; it’s everywhere.
I heard coughing and sneezing two or three different times while in Kroger

My work is either just getting over illness or coming down with something.

Lots of reports on social media from people with the flu.
All kinds. Throw ups. Regular flu. A LOT of fever, terrible headaches, and sore throats.

One of our clients just got over RSV. She said it’s just like bad flu.
She’s probably late 30’s …very early 40’s?

My grandkids had the RSV recently. It was rough. Maybe everyone is depleted out there due to the vax. So, we are hearing anything and everything coming out now. OR...maybe they figured they did not kill enough with corona...they had to come finish the job with throwing everything and the kitchen sink at us.

I don’t know but it’s really coming back with a vengeance!
I think Covid itself, wiped out immune systems, personally, but it’s probably a little if the vaxx doing that too.

Son and I have been battling something. Pretty sure it's just a cold virus because no fever. But I pulled out the elderberry syrup and the lemon balm tincture. We are both being dosed. I weighed the risk of the sugar in the elderberry syrup vs the risk of getting sick, and decided screw it, I'll take what I have made.

I don't know what we were battling but we are both doing better.

Thought all the coughing was bad. Then I witnessed a kid puking in local steakhouse. Thank God DH didn't see it. He would have sympathy puked along with her.
