Should I upgrade to Firefox 1.0? And if so, should I uninstall the previous version before installing the upgrade? Thanks....Pepper

You should upgrade.
I've done it with no uninstall and with an uninstall and it made no difference other than the old versions remaining in the add remove progam files.

I would uninstall first to keep things clean.

Is the Ver. 1.0 different than the 1.0PR ? How do you retain the bookmarks if you uninstall?? We don't want to lose them!

Firefox is really nice!

I didn't lose any bookmarks when I uninstalled then reinstalled Firefox; you should be OK.

This browser is a must have!

And for anyone looking for a fantastic email program, get Thunderbird too.

Yep. I use Thunderbird and it is great. Easy to use and without the built in problems that Outlook and Outlook Express have.

"I didn't lose any bookmarks when I uninstalled then reinstalled Firefox; you should be OK." I wonder if it saves your profile? Is that where bookmarks live?

Hi Tisha, you can install Firefox in addition to IE and use both as you desire. On installation, Firefox will ask you a couple of things and one thing you want to make sure and do is import your "Favorites" so that you can go to all your best sites, just like in IE.

The one "skill" that you'll need to know about is that you can open a link in a new tab by clicking on the link with the scroll wheel of your mouse. I didn't know that the scroll wheel would do that, but most will.

If you haven't upgraded yet, it's a no-brainer (I did it!). Just do the download (a little red indicator in the upper right hand corner of the browser tells you that there is an update). It will auto-install and keep all your bookmarks and so forth. It's easy!

If you decide you don't want it anymore, it's a MEGA biach to get rid of. I've had problems with it not wanting to go away. I uninstalled it, deleted the folder, and it came back. So, I went to the registry and ran a find from there. Got rid of it all ...I thought...and then I noticed the little file on the hard disk was back. So, back to the registry I went to see what browser it thought I was using. It thought I was using mozilla!
So....I ran a search for mozilla and FINALLY got rid of it.

I had to search for Firefox, Thunderbird AND Mozilla. What a mess. Now my IE works great...again...finally.

Firefox is an "OK" browser but I was frustrated with being able to configure it to MY tastes. I had difficulty with the changes actually occuring or occuring correctly. Finally I got frustrated with it because there was so much I couldn't do with it (like chat with java such as what tb and ez board use) among other things. Shortly after I dumped it, the news announced it was vulnerable to attack.

I've come to the conclusion that they are ALL vulnerable one way or another, and always will be. I do everything I can to batten down the hatches with IE and so far, I've done well. As more info is made available to secure it, ie with 3rd party software, I make a point of learning it, and applying it. My particular method isn't perfect, but it's been pretty decent keeing in mind that no browser is perfect, and all have their particular breed of vulnerabilities. I may as well use what I enjoy the most.
