INSANITY He thought his Chihuahua escaped and fell seven stories. The truth was more sinister, SF cops say

It's San Francisco, I'm surprised they convicted anyone of anything.
Toss this useless street person from the 7th floor and see how they like it.

At first it looked like an accident.

A 4-year-old Chihuahua named Dunky was lying in the street dead when its owner returned to the garage where he had parked during lunch on Feb. 10 in San Francisco, according to police. The man first assumed his dog had somehow sneaked out of the car and then had fallen from the seventh floor of the parking garage to its death.

But then the man went up to the seventh floor and saw his Mercedes: The vehicle had been broken into, leaving shattered glass and blood everywhere, police said. Someone had also rifled through the vehicle’s glove compartment.

From the car, a trail of blood led to a ledge — and that’s where the burglar had tossed Dunky off the structure and onto the street below, prosecutors said. Police said they instantly knew who the suspect was after watching surveillance footage.

The next morning, Wakeen Best, a 35-year-old homeless woman, was arrested in connection with the dog’s death, according to police.

A jury found Best guilty on felony animal cruelty, vandalism and burglary charges on Friday, according to San Francisco District Attorney George Gascón. The trial lasted three weeks, but jury deliberations only took a day.

“This defendant showed no remorse and is responsible for the death of a little, defenseless animal,” Gascón said in a statement, adding that the verdict is “a small step toward bringing justice for Dunky.”

Best targeted the man’s Mercedes because it was “the fanciest car she saw” on the seventh story of the garage that afternoon, according to prosecutors.

But after shattering the windows, Dunky surprised Best and began barking — drawing attention to the crime in progress. That’s when Best killed Dunky, and disposed of his body by dropping him over the ledge, prosecutors said.

Video and audio from the parking garage captured the crime as it happened, according to police. The perpetrator can be heard on the video screaming profanity at Dunky for yapping, though the video doesn’t show the attacker, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Shut yo ass up,” the culprit yells twice at the dog in the recording, according to the Chronicle. Meanwhile, the car’s alarm is screeching in the background. “You a b---h,” the culprit tells the dog in the recording, according to the Chronicle.

Best’s public defender said it wasn’t her client who killed the dog or who was heard in that recording, according to the Chronicle. But the public defender did admit that another recording caught Best at the crime scene.

We know that she knows how to do a standard smash and grab,” Deputy Public Defender Alexandra Pray said, conceding that her client has stolen from cars before, according to the San Francisco Examiner. “She is just a regular ol’ auto burglar. She’s not someone who murders animals. She’s not someone who hurts animals.”

Prosecutors wouldn’t say if Dunky died in the car on the seventh floor or during the fall, the San Francisco Examiner reports.

But prosecutors do know one thing: “Dunky didn’t have to die,” Assistant District Attorney Asha Jameson said in a statement.

Best will be sentenced on August 17, according to prosecutors.

Since this is San Francisco, I would think the jury sentence will be heavier for the murder of the dog, than what the illegal got for murdering that woman tourist. Of course the "homeless person," was a black woman with a long criminal history.

I pray every day for the physical destruction of California in general, and Los Angles and San Francisco in particular, from a 9.3 earthquake that wipes them into the sea. There are no innocent people in those cites, especially in Portland where I live. Samson had the right of it, pushing on the pillars till they collapsed and took thousands with him.

I noticed the public defender ignored the video of the woman breaking into the car too. LOL

My son is halfway through a two year church mission in LA. He has put aside his education in order to do service and share the gospel of Jesus Christ. There are many good people in those cities. I think your prayers for destruction of an entire state is abhorrent.

How about you and I adgal pray for the destruction of Doomer Doug every day? I live 3 hours from San Francisco, I'm an ultra conservative, live in a RED county, vote conservative, but I guess that's not good enough for Doomer Doug. I would never ask anyone to search their heart, some don't have one.

this THING will skate free - IT obviously has in the past or been given extremely minimal punishment given ITS track record of repetitive crimes. no doubt ITS blackness assures IT will be given "VICTIM STATUS"

I agree!

My son and his wife live in the Bay Area, so do some members here, not to mention millions of innocent children.

He (Wakeem) probably feels like a women currently. Tomorrow he may feel like a Asian model.

Perhaps perfectly normal behavior for Frisco. However Bardou is correct, abombinable behavior is everywhere, sadly.

...or a misunderstood Chihuahua. You cannot gauge freaky people to any degree. When it comes to sizing them up, you have to envision the potential for worst case extreme, and what that might equate to as reasonable defensive action on your part from the quiver of threat based responses you trained in.

Nothing wrong with reading the person from afar while avoiding their acting out perimeter.

As far as big Port Hub cities go in CONUS.

They ALL have a strategic value for their LOGISTICAL PAYLOAD abilities. If you believe the Interstate Highway System we’re built for rapid redeployment of assets in CONUS; then you already signed on to the reality shipping plays.

Gee, my point was the juries in San Francisco will likely, assuming they do the actual sentencing, will give a harsher jail sentence to a "homeless woman," who murdered a dog, than they actually did to the illegal who MURDERED A HUMAN BEING, IE THE TOURIST HE SHOT TO DEATH. I see few seem to have gotten my point that animals are more valued than people in San Francisco. There have also been multiple stories about San Francisco's filth, feces and drug needles on the street, human, two legged homeless, violent, vicious, brutal, terrorizing people in San Francisco.

Say what you want, but there are precious few "normal" people left in Portland, San Francisco or Los Angeles. The evil is everywhere in the USA right now. And yes, I have no problem praying for vile cities like Portland and San Francisco to be destroyed. It is easy to still think the USA is okay when you don't live in the urban areas. San Francisco and Portland have nothing on Sodom and Gommarh. Since that is the case, why do people think we will be treated any different than they were?

Actually, I regard it as a mercy killing.

Doug, there's good and bad people everywhere. CA has a high proportion of fruits nuts and flakes but so do lots of other places around the country. I live in the area of the DC swamp, for example. Everyone and their brother want to see this place vaporized. But there are normal folks here too, believe it or not.

there is indeed evil throughout this land - - - here is present day America in the Bible:

“And upon her forehead was a name written, Mystery, Babylon The Great, The Mother Of Harlots And Abominations Of The Earth.” (Revelation 17:5)

The woman will be let out of jail quickly due to over crowding and if not originally from the Bay Area she will get a one way bus ticket to her home town. A couple years ago California rid itself of many felony class charges. So we have a huge number of boomerang folks who get arrested, processed and then release back to the streets. Thus a huge uptick in personal property crimes.

Been here all my life, 60+ years and growing. I've been through several earthquakes, Loma Prieta being the worse. I live far inland, earthquakes happen every where. There was one in Oroville about 30 years ago. I think it cracked a 150 year old rock house, and fires started out in fields. I'll take my chances and stay here. Who knows, I could pack up, move some place else and something far worse happen. Like my friend who moved from here to Iowa, only to have her town destroyed by a tornado....ooops! People need to stop and think about what they are saying when it comes to telling people to pack up and leave.

Breaking into cars is probably the biggest crime going on in San Francisco. The woman doesn't have a "home town" and they cannot tell her where to live and she knows that. If they did give IT a bus ticket, shoving the problem off to another community will only enable IT to continue on until IT is put out of ITs misery. I'm hoping for the later. One thing about it being hotter than Hades here (105 today), is that it keeps the riff raff out of the public's eye. Too hot to stand on a corner and beg.

Considering how the homeless encampments are growing like mushrooms, particularly right up next to freeways, including in and around off ramps and interchanges around here in the Bay Area/Si Valley and San Joaquin County/Stockton, I suspect that the injury/death incidents are higher than are being reported.

That being said, karma and Darwin always wins out, it just takes time.

I left Illannoy. Moved across the state line into Indiana. One fifth the taxes over here. Same AO. If you say you really can't move somewhere else, it means you want to stay where you are which is fine. You don't crab about the crime and taxes. Live where you want. 13% income tax? No thanks.

That is not necessarily true.
Lots of us would not be able to pay the current rents or pay the inflated home prices to move anywhere else. The average home price is now $800,000 here.
