Have you painted metal roofing? Advice?

DH is just finishing a bit of building using metal roofing. We both think if it is painted the same colour as the house it will look good and be easy to do. Now we come to the method.
I said to DH it seems to me if you spray paint it with several coats it will be better and less chance of peeling. DH says he was going to use a roller and a brush and put it on thick. I say I dunno I'd fear it peeling unless you put several thin coats of paint on rather than slather it. I know DH likes to kinda put paint on like cement. I don't care if I am wrong, that is fine. The important part is for it not to end up being a big mess in a year or so that he has to spend three times the amount of energy trying to fix it.
Anyone have experience?

DH is in the construction biz, mostly metal buildings. He gets stuck with the painting most of the time since he's in the shop the most. (Oh, how he hates it--same stuff over and over. LOL) Anyway... I just sent him a text message asking for his advice and will post what he says. I know he uses a sprayer.

DH said to tell you that, yes, you definitely want to spray if at all possible. But, first, go to whatever paint store is in your area and tell them what you're doing. They'll give you a mix that you clean the roof with first--gets it really prepped for the paint. Then your paint, of course, but they'll also give you something to mix in with the paint that will make the paint bond with the surface.

(If you need the names of the 2 things, let me know. I didn't write them down when he was telling me. I'll go back and ask him, though, if your paint store doesn't know what you mean.)
