No way to know yet if this is terrorist related or football hooligans but it doesn't sound good - Sweden is more heavily armed than most European Countries but the guns have to be registered and people take courses before they are approved for ownership -that says, nothing will stop a determined criminal; and it isn't legally for 99.9 percent of the population to actually carry (you keep it in your car in a specially locked portable gun safe).

At least four people were injured in a shooting in the Swedish city of Malmo, according to police. Eyewitnesses told local media they heard at least 20 gunshots, while police say the shooting suspect is still on the run.

The shooting happened at about 7 p.m. local time (1700 GMT). Media reports on the issue differ. Some local media say that a man in an Audi opened fire on a crowd at a local football derby, citing eyewitnesses.

At the same time, Expressen newspaper reports that several gunmen on motor scooters opened fire on a car they were chasing through a neighborhood in the southern part of the city.

Police confirmed the shooting and said that four people were injured in the incident, one of them seriously, without giving any further details.

“We have an ongoing operation in the area and have confirmed shootings with more than one injured,” a police spokesman, Ewa-Gun Westford, told local media.

This article implies 'gangs' not football thugs. They have not trotted out any Hispanic slurs...yet.

'AN EXPLOSION has rocked the southern Swedish city of Malmo, hours after a gun attack left at least four people injured.

A blast was heard about 9pm Sunday local time in Heleneholm, a neighbourhood of Malmo, with bomb squads and security officers racing to the scene, Express reports.

The explosion comes just two hours after gunmen on motor scooters opened fire on a car they had been chasing through a neighbourhood in southern Malmo, Newspaper Expressen reports.

Witnesses reported hearing 20 gunshots about 7pm during a football derby.

Police confirmed four people were hospitalised with gunshot wounds and that the gunmen were believed to have fled the scene on motor scooters.

The victims’ conditions weren’t immediately clear. Police said they were investigating the case as an attempted murder.

It is not known if the two incidents are linked, but security services are on high alert across the city.

Like Sweden’s other major cities, Malmo has seen a rise in gun violence in the past decade, often connected to feuds between rival gangs.

Some Nordic gangs have access to some pretty serious heat - automatic weapons, grenades, RPGs etc.

Could well be locals doing their thing ...

Yep....that's always a good place to have your gun when you are walking about.

Like having all your guns in a gun safe when someone comes crashing through your front door.

In the house, all guns are required to be locked in your VERY secure standing gun safe (you can get them decorated in folkart at Ikea)...our local Gards (police) said our Swedish gun safe is better than the one they have at the station.

Only people with very special (and almost impossible to get) permits are allowed to actually carry a weapon unless they are actually hunting in season or at the range; it is (or was 22 years ago) technically possible to get a gun for "self defense" and carry it but good luck getting the permit unless your a rock star, corporate CEO or high level politician.
