Folks... if you are looking for a *great* deal on top of the line fabric, check this site out!

I've linked to a "mystery box" of solid knitting fabric. But they have other assortments.

This company has carried top fabrics for the lowest prices you will see... about 5 years ago, you could get the actual fabric Carhartts makes their coats, overalls, etc... for $4 a yard! (And yes, I'm kicking myself for not stocking some heavy denim at that price... it's now $14 a yard!

That was the only real fabric category I *don't* have in my preps... or it was until they started popularizing the super stretchy 4-way knits... and so many popular child's styles requires that degree of stretch. After making a couple pairs of leggings that turned out too tight due to lack of 4 way stretch in the fabric, I started looking for some appropriate cloth. Ouch! $12 to $15 a yard, even at my normal "bargain" sites.

So I went to Nick Of Time... their "by the yard" prices aren't much better (although their quality almost always is), but I saw their "mystery bundles". You don't get a choice of colors or patterns, but you save a LOT of money.

So, I ordered a 24 yard bundle of the solid knit fabrics I linked above. I opened the box and unrolled the fabric, to see what I had received. Imhad to unroll the bundle and then separate each layer of fabric. Sort of like a mini Christmas morning! I wanted to fold them all separately (being a commercial seller, don't expect cute individual plastic bags with each piece folded separately ...they take the pieces off huge bolts, roll them all together and out them in a box!)

I got 1 piece of royal blue athletic mesh (not super stretchy, but great for shorts or t-shirts), 1 piece "safety yellow" waffle stich knit (like the old thermal underwear fabric). 3 pieces in jewel tones of a stretch satin knit... matte finish, but it flows like silk) one length of a light blue that has to be 12 ounce/yard... super heavy jersey knit... it would make a lovely women's dress), and 2 heavy (feels almost like the old poly double knits, but not as harsh) 4 way stretch mid blue and orange. So, 7 pieces, total.

I also ordered a denim bundle, and a print knit bundle (children knits bundle). The lightest weight denim is probably 10 oz, and there is one length that has to be 14 oz. None contain spandex... just super quality, old fashioned cotton denim! (I haven't measured and folded them yet!)

But now we get to the best part... when I refolded the jersey mystery bundle, I realized each fabric was longer than 2 yards. In fact, *every length* was 3 yards! And, for some utterly inexplicable reason... they sent *2* identical bundles! (You should have seen hubby's face... that box was HEAVY, and he already thinks I've got enough fabric for 2 lifetimes! He's probably right, but I've got a ton of patterns and none of the correct fabric to make them work!)

By the way... they ship free on orders over $50. They aren't super fast...,can take them a few days to get stuff shipped, but it always gets here within 10 days.

So, I ended up getting 42 yards of high quality stretch knits... for $66!

Now, I'm going to need to get busy!

I can truly appreciate the bargain. But it's time for Christmas gifts and it looks like one yard of cotton fabric with a teapot pattern is going to run me $20.

Making Mom a quilted canning mat and trying very hard to keep it non cartoonish and in colors she likes. Without having to go beyond basic quilting skills amd not having to spend a month or two to complete it.
