What type of place are you getting it from locally ??
Restaurant supply ?
I usually only get the used stuff from a local Chinese restaurant to make into bio-diesel.
The fresh oils for cooking/etc. usually go bad within 6 months unless they have a lot of preservatives.

One can add his own powdered antioxidants sourced in bulk from here:Bird Guano said:The fresh oils for cooking/etc. usually go bad within 6 months unless they have a lot of preservatives.
You might try making your own by using another oil as a base stock and adding olive-leaf extract powder:Metolius said:I don't get olive oil since the prices skyrocketed
It takes me a long time to use up cooking oil so most of mine is in the freezer and what isn't is in the fridge except for some olive oil I store in a dark cabinet. I doubt that I could tell the difference between an unopened bottle of oil that's been in the freezer for five years and one that I just brought home from the store.janecj333 said:Has anyone had luck freezing cooking oil to prevent rancidity?
I've refrigerated mine in the past, and it pops alot when used for frying.
