Now the question is, are these guys the "old" Irish bombers (aka revived IRA splinter groups) or the "new" type of terrorists imported from the Middle East - I notice an total lack of names in the press so far, but that isn't that unusual over here due to privacy issues.

But if we don't see any names by tomorrow afternoon this is going to look highly suspect - now a bomb, is a bomb and I am very relieved it was discovered before it hurt people either here or in Northern Ireland, but I am curious as to who or whom is behind it - Melodi

The "six bags" of explosives conjures up one image (satchel charges/backpack bombs/suicide bomber), while the age of the two detained early 30s and early 40s conjures another (IRA or Mobsters).

There is total media silence on this topic so far today - even the original story has gone "poof" from the main pages even though it was front-page on the on-line media over night - now there IS an on-going situation in Belfast where a school has been evacuated and a "possible device" found but it may turn out to be someone's lost briefcase or if a bomb at least it was found in time to alert the school and lock down the kids.

With no information (especially without names) it is simply impossible for the public to know if the most likely perps are irish or Middle Eastern; but then publishing the names of people simply being questioned is very rare here and might take a judges order to do so.

However, the total removal of such a large story is concerning...more later when I get it - I didn't see it in the UK on-line papers that I checked either.

Also..........silence may mean it's a media flag.........possible FF in play...........somehow (!) the officials always seem to know "facts/figures" after events explode literally or figuratively..............hope the plan is cancelled...........WHATEVER IT IS/WAS.........

Silence to me, would mean it is most likely Mozlems.
It may or may not - here it is perfectly normal NOT to name suspects under questioning until a judge gives an OK or they are charged with something - but what I find a lot weirder is this story still seems to be buried, I mean from front page news to poof!

Usually we would have something like "Gardi tonight requested an extension of 24 hours to officially question two men allegedly found in a car with explosives last night" or something like that...

Total silence is weird and yes it could be a Muslim terror plot all right, but given the location of the car it could also have been headed to Northern Ireland (most "new" IRA clone bombs are built down here and then smuggled up there).

Either way, I hope they caught everyone involved and that the danger is over but again, I'm not counting on it.

I am going to do more searching and see if any on-line source has anything on this...

Finally after two days of silence (and in the midnight edition of the on-line paper) we get this tiny bit and look STILL no names; now that isn't unheard of but if they are being actively charged the names are usually released - hopefully that will happen tomorrow after they are actually in court and my hunch is that the most obvious question will be answered when those names are known. Occasionally someone isn't named or let go because they are an undercover Guard or something, but that doesn't look to be the situation in this case.
