I was born in Orlando. Currently live in Gainesville. And I can see that my sense of gallows humor didn't go over very well. Ya see, I AM the guy who sits in his house during a storm, rather than go to a shelter. Why, you ask? Because trees can fall on shelters as easily as homes. But at least if one falls on my home, and I'm here, I can do something about it rather than come home to a flooded house. Ask me how I know. If offense was taken, I apologize. But I have sat in the garage during a hurricane and watched the wind bend the trees. A most amazing sight.
Shelters scare the hell out of me because I’m afraid of something falling and trapping me inside it.

Just pocking at you some what, but the same thing could be said for a house.
The devastation that happened in April in Amory MS last year did trap people in their homes.
But yeah a lot more room for a nose in a house rather than a shelter. Or so SB says.
That's why shelters *must* have doors that open inward! And I wouldn't go into one that didn't have a chainsaw, axe and crowbar as part of the essential equipment.
