THEY MUST BE REDONE EVERY 2 YEARS OR SO NORMAL TRAFFIC
Tracks are moved on trailers if there is any real distance involved.
If we needed move large amounts of troops and armor across the country, it would be more of a one-shot deal...not constant traffic.
Otherwise, potholes don't matter to a tanker.
The bridges are built to handle the 100+ tons of a heavy hauler with double bogeys, easily.
More important was having the initial routes cleared for long distance travel without negotiating small towns. Having driven tracks throughout Germany, small towns are a pain for military convoys.
