This is a true story. One day years ago I took care of a patient who just had a hernia repair. I kept him about an hour in the recovery room. I decided he was awake enough to go to his room and started disconnecting him from the monitor. He asked me what was that dog doing over there in the corner. I asked what dog. He said that little collie over there. I started putting the monitors back on because he was obviously not ready to go to his room. I asked him what the dog was doing. He said it was eating a melon. Then I called one of the other nurses over because I wondered why he was hallucinating. Then the guy says, you know the little melon collie. He then starts laughing and said he was waiting for the right opportunity to say that.
