FOOD Frost last night in central Arkansas

Well, the dew point was 30 degrees and actual is 32 at 5:30 this morning. Gardens are covered, I have diesel powered "jet engine" heaters in the fruit trees as well as wood fires. The grapes will be okay. I can see wood smoke from the peach tree plot at the BIL house.

This year, and maybe from now on I have a feeling we will need every little bit of food we can scrape together.

As an aside, wife and three sisters made a "canning jar flats" raid into town and came back a couple year supply.

"Whats in your pantry?"

It's 33° at 7:30 am in w ky this morning. We were issued a freeze warning a couple days ago. DH and I went out to the garden yesterday evening to cover up our babies. We brought inside all plants and flowers in pots and closed up the green house. I agree with you, we need to be prepared to feed ourselves. We plan on having enough to share with our adult kids/family.

Cold clear nights lately (MN)...I have 16 degrees right now and the days are going to be cold (30's) yet for a while this week. I think it's helping to keep flooding to a minimum though so far this spring. Very slow run-off, and where I am, the woods and fields are actually drier that I'd like to see it going into fire season.

Snow on the ground this morning. Seedlings are up in the raised bed. They're under white plastic and are happy. NE Ohio

I am northwest of Russellville. We were at 32-33* depending on which thermometer I was looking at. Garden was covered but I worry about the peach and plum trees. I too feel what we grow will be very important to us this year.

I already have my canning lids and such.

Outside of Mena here. HARD frost this morning, I had a bunch of my plants covered. Hoping most of them made it ok.

I am northeast of Russellville, Arkansas. It was 32 on my thermometer when I got up at 7:30 this morning. It's not unusual to get a frost or mild freeze this time of year, but not when it's been this warm!

Since it appears the temps could fluctuate like this from the GSM, I'm trying to plant all my frost-sensitive things in the greenhouse or along fences that could support tarps, sheets, or blankets, in case it gets this cold again any time through the summer.

Beautiful January day here in lower Michigan. Snow covering everything, 28 degrees at dawn, still snowing.
Still snowing in SW lower MI, but it's no longer sticking. That which has already fallen has also melted. But it's still snowing. High of 53 on Saturday, if I remember right.

Just brushed 3/4" of snow off greenhouses, 45 degrees inside now, which will climb to at least 60 or more, especially if the sun pops out for a few minutes. Looks like Friday should be the last of the 20's we see for the season...

My nephew and his wife (both newly minted American/Canadians) moved into Mena in January - they love the area and he drives truck to Oklahoma. They will be enjoying the cooler air there, as they just moved from Texas.

2" of fresh snow overnight in southwestern NY. Not really unusual for this time of year... but not welcome, either!
