Food Freeze dried food

I am currently trying to boost up my long term category of food preps and decided to try out some freeze dried food from cans. Purchased Mountain House ground beef and Honeyville mixed vege. Tried to rehydrate and make a skillet casserole with tomato sauce and herbs, etc. It tasted so bad to us we couldn't eat it. I've read reviews from others who love the stuff, but I guess I'll stick to home canning. A good lesson for me (and others) to try out your preps before you "buy" into anything in a big way. We all have different tastes in food!!! I do love the tomato powder, though.

Ground beef and veggies in a casserole are only as good as the spices and flavorings added to it. The dehydrated ground beef has no more taste than cooked hamburger which is what it is. MH is good stuff and their complete entrees such as their Beef Stroganoff, Spaghetti, ect are very good for deyhdrated.

You may like Backpackers Pantry. I started adding it to my supplies along with other brands because it is additive free. I also like Valley Food Storage which is also healthy. They both have some spicy dishes. It seems I remember MRE Warehouse has some spices canned for long term storage along with candy, pet food and green coffee beans. Quite a few unique things most other places don't have.

...We bought MH pouches of different varieties. Did not like any of the breakfast pouches but the rest were great tasting. Now we have 10+ number 10 cans of food we love the taste of. You tried one selecyion. Did not like it and decided all their selections are not for you? WOW!!!

I have yet to discover a freeze dried product I didn't like, especially mountain house.... Just sayin'.

I have a bedroom set up for long term storage of freeze dried products.
