Because Constitutionally you have the RIGHT to a cell phone

It's true, Jefferson wrote in Amendment 666 that cell phones were guaranteed to all poor people.

An ‘‘economic unit’’ is defined as ‘‘all adult individuals contributing to and sharing in the income and expenses of a household.’’ Lifeline support is available to eligible low-income consumers living in group living facilities. Lifeline applicants may demonstrate when initially enrolling in the program that any other Lifeline recipients residing at their residential address are part of a separate household.

And there is little to no oversight. I saw a woman on a news show bragging that she had 25 or 30 phones ... she just went around to different distribution points and got another phone. GIBSMEDAT on steroids. :sht::smkd:

ROFLOL!!!

Is this the first you have seen or heard of this???

Life under the rock comfy??

This is just the cell version of Billy Jeff's hard line phones that every phone owner/DSL subscriber has been paying for, for over 10 years.

The Cell version has been available for at least 5 years.

And it is NOT paid for from income taxes etc, but from cell phone taxes/fees...something on the order of $.50 per month, iirc and is classed as a fee called an "access fee".

GAWQ, that individual must have used MANY different addresses, because we were declined for a second one for our house-mate due to having one at our address....Of course you CAN game the system, like any other system...

This helps explain how I see the large, mostly minority women, at the grocery yacking on cell phones using the WIC credit cards. I guess I could spend more on better cuts of meat and already prepared meals if I didn't have other bills to pay. It's a sad day when the "impoverished" have more disposable "income" than working folks. Think about it; how horrible would it be to have a bunch of like-minded TB2Kers living in the same neighborhood in free housing, with free food, free daycare, free health insurance, free cell phones and most of the rest of our bills taken care of? I'm beginning to wonder why any of us even bother to work any more.

I just saw the commercials on tv, about every other commercial was for this phone. I wondered if it is a new big Government push to buy voters before November

Even in small-town OK, these folks come out and set up like they are tailgating to hawk these "Obama-Phones". People waiting in line. I saw this and rolled up and told these people that by taking the phone they now had to vote for Obama. The two black 20-somethings that were hawking the phones looked at me with their best "Thug-eyes". Sadly, the locals who were lined up for the phones appeared to accept that I was serious about who they had to vote for.

Saved, to glorify God.
PLEASE correct your title to "MEDICAID", (a low income adjunct to welfare eligible people) NOT MEDICARE which does not entitle you to a free phone.

Your erroneous title brings unwarranted condemnation upon everyone over 65 put on MEDICARE by the law and who are NOT eligible for these free phones thereby.

When you get your FACTS WRONG, people are smart to question your credibility.

The GIBSMEDAT people feel entitled... Even when they do work under the table they blow it on "wants" instead of saving for rainy days... Then whine because they can not pay for other expenses... I see it all the time in a town near here where my daughter lives and I shop... These people have better and more expensive toys than I could ever dream of buying...

While I TOTALLY agree there are those that abuse this, there are plenty of people who can't get out of poverty or get health services because they don't have a phone. For low income seniors this has been a blessing. We have a Heart Failure clinic at our hospital where they call people at risk for readmission and check in on them and do over the phone teaching. My son (a flagger) must have a working phone because they call him daily to schedule his work (he pays for his phone but this would work for someone TRYING to get a job. SIMPLE, BASIC home phone service (no frills) is expensive in our area (30-50/month). Remember, if you don't have a phone, email address, and home address- it is nearly impossible to work.

These are basic phones and they do save lives and help people get and maintain jobs. Do all people use them wisely, of course not. But it helps some and if it saves a few readmissions to hospitals then the programs pays for itself in cost savings.
