The earliest 15 years are the best, I think, maybe because IT WAS CAST WITH OLD PEOPLE, and over the 37 years it was on, as they died new (old) characters were added to replace them.

It takes a few episodes to get to know the characters the three main characters being schoolyard chums who each had a vastly different life from their school chum but then reaquaint when life kicks them aside into retirement and they return to their childhood home town. They are all three now single and alone with only the other two to care about them. They are like elderly "lil Rascals" always using their idle time to get into well intentioned but invariably unsuccessful trouble and embarrassments. but you fall in love with them and can't wait for their next set of these British three stooges' antics.
Here is the very first episode of the 37 year sitcom (they get better) after a while you will come to understand British speech more and learn a lot about how different their values are and were from American ideas of what is important. There is a long running war between men and women with the wives bonded together to keep the men "in check" and behaving, as far as the women were concerned. The scruffy little guy who plays "Compo", a retired iterant laborer will become your favorite. Next "Cleggy" the retired accountant. The third member of the gang was played by several actors, my favorite was "Foggy" the retired career military.
