I'm so glad I posted this recipe here. I brought this dish to 2 Christmas parties so far this year and this is the 12th time I've been asked to copy this recipe and email it to others that attended the party. I doubled the recipe for both parties and it was all gone. The last party DH and I left at 10:30 (both had to be up very early the next morning) and I asked the hostess to save the platter and she laughed and asked me to stay there. She handed me my empty platter. She said it was the first thing everyone ate. :)

I've decided that this weekend I'm making several copies and placing them under the platter at the party for all who would like to have it. BTW, the hostess of this weeks party asked me to bring this dish, AGAIN!

Sounds yummy! Here's another good take along dish: Thaw salad shrimp and mix with cocktail sauce, pour over cream cheese and serve with crackers.

And this cheese ball is a real hit: Finely mince 1 jar of dried beef and 1/2 cup green onion. Add this and 1/2 tsp garlic powder and 1/2 tsp worchestershire sauce to 2 pkgs of softened cream cheese. Knead until blended and form into a ball. Serve with crackers.

I also like this one because you can make it ahead and freeze. 2 pkgs softened cream cheese, 1 drained and picked can of crabmeat, 1/4 cup minced green onion, 1/4 tsp garlic powder, 1 tbs minced lemon zest. Mix until smooth and spread on english muffin halves. Cut into fourths (sometimes its easier to put them on a tray and freeze them slightly before cutting). At this point you can freeze them in ziplocks or bake (375 degrees)until golden brown. They make for easy finger food and are a quick fix for unexpected company.

Add a jar of Old English Cheddar to the cheese ball recipe above. It is fabulous! DH makes this for all our parties and is always asked for the recipe.

Thanks for the cheese ball recipe. I'll give it a try this weekend since we have two more Christmas parties to attend. Seafood is always a welcomed change to the traditional holiday chips and dips or ham and turkey. :)

Here's a real simple one. It may sound kinda odd, but when you taste these things, you're hooked!

A tub of pitted dates
A pound of bacon, each piece cut into thirds

Wrap the bacon around a date and secure with a toothpick.

Put them all on a cookie sheet and broil until the bacon is browned, but not crisp.

Serve.

I'm tellin' ya, they're good!

I spread this mixture on green, white and red flour tortillas, roll up, pin with toothpicks and cut into pinwheel fashion. It's so simple and they are always the first thing to go.

I love this idea and will try it someday.

I made the cheese ball with the old english cheese and it really picked up the flavor! Thanks for the suggestion, Frangipanni. MissTina, I'll give the tortillas a try sounds great! Here's another good finger food: Slice french bread into 1 inch slices, spread with a little tomato paste and top with a saute'd mixture of chopped olives (black or green), green onions, mushrooms, garlic...use your imagination. Spread on bread then top with grated or sliced cheese i.e. parmesian, feta, provolone, swiss. Pop in the oven to melt the cheese. These are so good and you can basically use what every you have on hand. BG
