I’ll tell you what’s wrong with the German Shepherd / shoe rack pic: that rack will not stop the dog. Five minutes and all those shoes will be on the floor.
We used a baby gate infront of the shoe rack. I needed something heavy to secure it, and slid the box containing our new Kobalt bench vice (vise?). Weren't sure if we were going to keep it, but the local store said it would be ok, just keep the packaging in good condition. Puppy chewed the box.
This was bested a few days ago, when I was informed there was a dead duck on the couch! Duck resurrected, and is doing fine, but there were a lot of feathers all over the living room. Puppy is now getting daily Don't Eat the Poultry training sessions. Maybe I should have snapped a pic.

Gypsy Vanner horse. I wish they weren't so danged expensive; DD and DW are both thinking about getting a horse, and if I have to have one, I'd love to have one of these.
