Father of Slain Chicago 9-Year-Old Boy Charged in Shooting 3

The father of a 9-year-old Chicago boy who was shot and killed in November has been charged with shooting three people.

The Chicago Tribune reports that 25-year-old Pierre Stokes was charged with three counts of aggravated battery with a firearm and one count of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon in connection.

Stokes is accused in a shooting that occurred Tuesday, the day authorities announced charges against 22-year-old Dwright Boone-Doty in the Nov. 2 killing of Stokes' son, Tyshawn Lee.

The boy was one of 400 homicide victims in Chicago last year, but the fourth-grader's death shocked the city because, according to police, he was killed because of his father's gang affiliation.

Or 16 when the boy was born; could have been 15 when she got pregnant!

A shame he didn't get taken out with the rest of the trash.

Summerthyme (and while it's a tragedy when a child that young is killed, what do you think the odds were that he'd also have been producing more potential gang members AND have been killing people on his own within the next 5-6 years?)

That takes away the choice of the boy. It is possible that he would have chosen a different life. Not probable, but possible.

I wonder if the man was supporting the boy or was the mother receiving welfare. That would indicate how important the boy really was to "daddy".

Wow! Gang style economic warfare. Opposing gangs cut off income to rivals by destroying income producing assets (children to unwed mothers collecting welfare) or cutting off access to income by destroying asset producer and custodian (unwed mother is killed and children are absorbed into the system preventing father from assessing welfare income and other benefits).

Someone please tell me this is not becoming a trend! Tell me it is only an evil stray thought with no basis in reality....please?
