CRIME Excitement in the neighborhood

I was sitting in my livingroom watching tv this evening when I heard gunshots outside. I ran to the door in time to see someone run and jump into a white truck and it took off to the west.
Neighbor was out in his shorts and teeshirt with 2 pistols and his AR 15 ready to defend his family. Apparently, the girl that lives in the drug house down the way had run over her husband in OKC earlier in the day and his gang was here to take her out. She had been getting death threats all day so she was ready for them. After 14 shots in all directions, one guy, who was so high, he didn't even know he was shot in the back of the head and the chest, and one of the perps got shot in the leg. The police dispatch phone was so busy nobody could get thru. The police showed up. The girl in question is Native American so the cops couldn't go into the house until the Lighthorse police got there.

Apparently, they decided that since they were up near the Kansas border they would call the OSBI (Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation) to come from OKC to take over the case.

At this time we are waiting for them to arrive. The neighbor went to look at his security camera footage and found videos of the entire thing including sounds of the shots. Lucky break for the police.

Got to meet some more of my neighbors and volunteered to be the neighborhood "safe place" for the local kids. The city manager can now condemn the house and tear it down because it is a crime scene and it has not had running water, sewer, or garbage pickup since last summer.. :) This is my happy face. They have been a thorn in the side of the neighborhood for a long time. Maybe this will turn back into a safe neighborhood again.

Sounds like things are on the way up! Glad no one was hurt (from the neighborhood, that is) and the incident will now provide legal cover to clean up your neighborhood. Keep your eyes on a swivel, though. Some of them might not be happy about being evicted, and might get confused about who helped the cops. Hopefully, they're all too stoned to remember anything!

They are well aware of who helped the cops and they also know he will defend himself and his family in ways they will not like. He has no problem knocking on their door and offering to shoot the next one of them that tries to break into his vehicles or house. He is a good guy to have on our side.

WOW! Hope things work out for the neighborhood. Never good when bullets start flying nearby, you never never know where they're going to land....and they don't care. SPOOKY! Watch your SIX!!

Thanks Shadowman. Between good neighbors and deadeye husband, I am well looked after. DH might be 83, he still has the shooting instincts of the Seabee he once was. He may be a tiny bit slower than he once was, but he is deadly accurate. Carpenter's eye works for more than one thing.
Fortunately, the shooting was away from my house this time.

Thanks Cappy. I agree with the meme but for this occasion, the potential defender was in his shorts and tee just out of the shower. Just a bit less formal than he may have been. His technique was flawless tho.

you and quite a few other neighborhoods need unexplained house fires - we are into the cusp of a full out WROL SHTFtime - the small infestations like that druggie house are going to blossom into raging pestholes ....

if your idea about getting that house tore down doesn't materialize - give it some help before it's re-occupied by something worse - don't rely on anything in the way of conventional GOV - it just isn't working anymore

its good that you got to meet other people in the neighborhood.

and it is also good for everyone in the neighborhood to have those designated "safe" spots and people in case of trouble.

I still have memories of back in early 80's when we lived in town. We had just got CATV. Was watching CNN, they were decent then. They had a story about Philly I think. Small low income neighborhood. Story was drug pushers had moved in, and had a lot of increased traffic, endangering everybody especially children.

Neighbors said they complained to cops repeatedly, no help. Then went and talked to the druggies. Druggies just beat up a couple of the fathers. Finally, one of the druggies zoomed up the street, hit a kid, put him in the hospital. Neighborhood had an organizational meeting, went to the house at 0dark thirty, fire bombed the house. Cops came down were going to arrest some of the fathers. Neighborhood all came out, armed, and ran the cops off. Some of the fathers stood in front of the camera, and announced to the world, that druggies were not welcome in their neighborhood. Pointed to the smoking pile of rubble and said that is just a warning. Said they were tired of their children being endangered, and the cops not protecting them. Said they would defend their own neighborhood, and if the cops got in the way, the neighborhood would treat them the same as the druggies. The reporter let them rant, lot of pictures of the neighborhood. CNN was different then.

Never did hear anymore from there. But I always liked that incident/story !!!

Pissed off daddy bears & mommy bears took care of business, as they should !!!

There is a lesson in that story !!

While "...hearing shots and running to the window....." might not have been the best of ideas. I won't fault you for it.

Am glad everything turned out all right. And all the neighbor's and you, are all right.

Tearing down the house is not my idea, it was suggested by the city manager. The biggest problem was with the jurisdiction problem. The squatter there is NA and not within the power of the local LEOs. Lighthorse police had to be called and only 2 were on duty. They were over 150 miles from here which is why the OSBI came.
If the city doesn't take down the house, I'm sure it will be taken care of by interested parties.

I went to the door to see what was happening because I was sitting in front of a triple window and the bullets did not seem to be coming my way. I knew where the drug house was and assumed that was the aim. I agree it was not my wisest move but I did quickly anylize the situation and deemed it safe enough. I am 78 years old and will not be intimidated by punks. I am ready to meet my maker without fear but with great love. I know he put me here to help wherever I can and I do not intend to disappoint him.

That's some good news. Be even better if new squatters tried frying a turkey tonight and burned the place down instead.

Good from evil is always nice to see but be vigilant

Glad to hear there were no innocent collateral wounded
We are grateful for the unity of the people in this area. To come together like they did is truly heartwarming. I will see a couple of them tomorrow or the next day to exchange phone numbers so we can keep tabs on oneanother. We are now more aware of who can be trusted. That alone was worth the dither.

The squatters already tried to blow the place up with a meth explosion in the basement last summer. Was strong enough to crack a newly laid slab of cement 2 doors away. Apparently they are not very good at that either.

trouble with that GOV tearing down - unless it's a real funded $$$$ program and a consistent push >>> it just takes forever - if it ever happens ...

Gary and Detroit got urban renewal $$$ - home teardowns became the biggest biz for both cities - afterward the bare neighborhoods lots were sold off ...

there was some ag company was talking about farming the vacant land in Detroit

I'd get all the neighbors together, each with a 5 gallon gas can. Go to the druggie house and spread that gas all inside and out.
Then toss a match, put away the gas cans. When the house is 3/4 burnt to the ground, then call for the fire dept. They should get there about the time the last wall falls in.
Problem solved.

How about cleaning it up and repairing it. And then making it into a 'neighborhood school'...'nursery'...a 'neighborhood watch' clubhouse? Know what I mean?

sometimes, you just need to get rid of the bad and start over.

even God did it.

True...very true. I was just adding a 'thought' to the discussion. Oh...and here's another 'thought'...before burning it down, they might just aught to give it a very thorough 'looking-over'. Look for 'secret hiding places' ya know...where large amounts of money/valuables can be kept. It just might be a very valuable(lol) thing to do.

Nothing urban about this little town. 6600 total. When city hall has something to do, they get around to it. It has been on their agenda for a while but the NA situation kept them at bay. Now that it is a crime scene, they can go ahead with it.
The owner of the house died about 6 years ago and aparently the heirs didn't want it. It was abandoned and the current occupants have been squatting there. They didn't pay the water bill so they took out the meter when they kept turning it back on. No sewer, no trash pickup. Unsafe conditions all around. It will be gone asap..

The money house is across the street.. If the house gets torn down, maybe they will move, too.

Well...that's 2 strikes. Lol, I don't think I'll try for 'strike 3'. I was just thinking that a big house fire could endanger more than the shooting did, and was looking for a way to 'change' it and make it pay, rather than to just destroy it.

Every neighborhood has junkies within... junkies are a scourge and cannot be rehabilitated. Junkies are a threat and everyone must have proactive plans to mitigate those junkies in the first few days of any SHTF. They are thieving vermin in times of plenty... if you fail to interdict them ASAP, they will destroy you and yours!

Sounds like the best thing to do is purge that derelict house with FIRE. Once a meth lab has been in a house there is nothing you can do to save it. It's a TOXIC KILLING ZONE!!

The money house is across the street.. If the house gets torn down, maybe they will move, too.

Simple.....burn down the meth house and then leave a firm message to the "money house" that THEY are next. MOVE or DIE...that's their only choice. Problem solved. There can be no negotiation with people like these. Sad but true. They only understand power and force. They don't think like normal people. Don't expect it. It won't happen. Again...sad, but true.

If those 'interested parties' just happen to have a CAT D11 handy.....that'll be about 10-15 minutes of action -----AND DONE !!!

I know a simpler way to make the house empty.

Write an anonymous note to the occupants.

Tell them the cops were tipped off and are coming back to bust everyone in the house sometime this next week.

Sign it,

Your friend

Trust me, they will be sneaking out sometime during the night.

Some of the squatters are Native American. That changes the dynamic considerably. Lighthorse Police have to do it and so far, they have not been inclined to do it. There are also motorcycle gangs involved. They have been cooking meth in that house for about a year and even when they had an explosion there, the cops couldn't go in.

This stuns me... here, the cops can't go on the Reservation... they have their own police. But they have no protection when off the Rez... if they break the law, any American cop can arrest them.
