PREP Estate Sale deal

I just got a really amazing estate sale deal. I bought a North face jacket 550 inner lining and hard outer shell for the unbelievable price of ,.....15 dollars. It is in really good condition. I feel like I stole it. The sales person said all hunting coats are 15 dollars. Another rep said, yeah but its a North face. The one ringing me out said I'm going to stick to the 15 dollar charge. I was about to offer 100 dollars thinking that was a deal. I shut my mouth and let the 2 sales people talk. My husband said it probably would go for 600 plus dollars.

I also bought a Nikon 18 200 lens for 125 dollars . I have one that cost 800 dollars new. I bought it as a back up lens. I also bought some young living. Essential oils new for 12 dollars for 15 ounces. They run 40 to 65 dollars on the young living web site. I bought a few other things at a real discount as well.

I rarely walk away feeling like I really got a really good deal but today I really did.

trouble with those so-called "estate sales" is the ridiculous pricing $$$ - everything is looked up on-line and price set at 50% retail - even a 50% last day price cut on the pricing isn't enough to make sense >>> very rare anymore are actual auctioneer conducted estate sales - the top bidder wins

If you get to know the Estate Sales companies in your area you can keep your attendance to the ones that have some sense rather than just getting a percentage of the entire sale so they either won't dicker or up price all of the items that draw people in. A lot of our stuff has come from estate sales. You just have to have patience and be willing to get something different from what you go after.

I know a lady that runs a house clean out business (she does the clean out when someone leaves a rental unit) and all of her chemicals, brooms, vacuums, etc comes from estate sales. She has a staff of ten and she keeps them all stocked.

There are a lot of re-sellers these days. All we have to tell them is that we aren't reselling and we can usually swing a better deal.

Another option for those not looking into estate sales and the like is shopgoodwill.com. It runs on auction very similiar to Ebay, but the major drawback is that the buyer pays shipping, and a smallish handling fee. The shipping fees can be significant depending on the item. And, of course, nothing can be tried on or tested, and nothing is returnable.

Just another option for some to consider...

We went to a local estate sale just a week ago. An old gentleman died and his daughter was selling his stuff (like a yard sale). I did buy a few things but most was stuff I did not want. Stuff was really cheap because she just wanted it gone. A lot of tools there but I have way too many now.

I keep hearing about price drops and amazing deals, but I haven't seen much of that around here (Central Iowa).

I'm checking garage and estate sales for a decent chop saw, which I need, and several other "nice to have" small tools. So far this year, it has been mostly over-priced clothing, baby stuff, furniture, china, and -- well -- crap! There was a whole table covered with beer mugs and spoons from different states, for example. (Those would've sold better on eBay, but the lady didn't even own a computer -- I did suggest that to her.)

Usually, mist estate sakes I go to, I walk away with nothing or maybe a candle or something small. I did spend alot of monety on the essential oils but they were very cheap compared to on line. I just got those I use. I could never have imagined getting a nice expensive north face coat for 15 dollars. I was amazed and excited with that. Otherwise I never would have posted this thread. Finding 3 good finds was amazing. Like hitting the jackpot.

Check craig's list and facebook marketplace. Marketplace is the only reason I still have a FB account. We've gotten a couple of new to us work vans that way, some construction materials, my youngest son got a mustang cheap enough he works on it when he has the time, and my oldest son just got a butt load of half barrels for planting his blueberry plants in for a $1/barrel half.

I've found tons of gardening supplies at garage/estate sales around here. Pots, hand tools and things to make birdbaths. When we were remodeling our old farmhouse my husband picked up several old light fixtures plus some hand tools and an almost new wheelbarrow for 10 bucks.

I went to an estate sale where there was tons of sewing fabric. The first day I paid $4 per yard for some denim and fleece and checked out all the other fleece. When I went back on the last day, I bought a lot of the stuff I'd checked out for $2 per yard. Also, sewing patterns for 25¢. It was just a couple blocks from where I live so easy to go multiple times.
