Hey All!

Well, DH and I just spent a week erecting a pole barn. It is all framed up and ready for metal. The weather was wonderful all week long, low humidity and partly cloudy.

What a week of vacation for DH!!!

I have pics of the progress that we made!

Moving dirt and leveling the ground:

All of the poles are in the ground and all the dirt around them pounded down.

The trusses are up!

Installing the last of the wood supports on the trusses.

We start on the metal when DH comes home tonight, if he has the energy.

Oh, wow! Thank you so much for posting those pics--I love seeing construction progress!

What were the poles? Old telephone poles? Did you set them in cement or just the dirt?

booger,

The poles are 4"x6" treated lumber 12' tall. Four feet of pole goes into the ground (per building inspectors wishes - he also said concrete holds water and will rot the posts if totally encased in it). We set them on cement footers and filled in with sand and gravel. We tamped and tamped and tamped! My arms are sore! :bwl:

The pole barn was a package we bought from Carter Lumber. They give you everything you need to put up the barn - blueprints, lumber, nails, hurricane straps, metal siding, etc. We would have like a larger pole barn but the price went up $1200 from April to August! We can only save money so fast so had to settle for 24' x 32'. The price was set to go up an additional $200 the day after we ordered! I told DH we had to buy before hurricane season started!

That is one fine looking barn. Good work! Two of you working alone eh? Excellent. Thanks for posting the pictures. Around here after a job is done well we claim we get to rest on laurels for a day.
The cost of any type of building material goes up each time we go to town. The money put away never seems to increase as quickly. You two can hire out as "Barn Raisers" any time you want. :)

Update!

Well, I see that the site I had my other pics on is not currently working. I will repost if they are not up soon!

Here is a pic of DH putting up the metal on the roof. Luckily it was not too windy that day!

I will post more as I download them to the computer.
