EXTENDED RANGE FORECAST OF ATLANTIC SEASONAL HURRICANE ACTIVITY AND US LANDFALL STRIKE PROBABILITY FOR 2005

We foresee a slightly above-average hurricane season for the Atlantic basin in 2005. Also, an above-average probability of U.S. major hurricane landfall is anticipated. We do not, however, expect anything close to the U.S. landfalling hurricane activity of 2004.

Funny you posted this, Alan. I was just thinking "four months until hurricane season" and we still haven't gotten a contractor to fix some of the repairs from the two that hit us dead on last fall.

Yep. Plenty of folks haven't gotten themselves put back together from last year yet.

I only thought I was prepared last year. This year I'm going to be even more prepared. On that basis I predict I won't get hit at all.

I hope

none of the ones this year appear to be steared in circles and land just where the last one did!

I am also starting to look into storys out there that weathermen around the world are shaking their heads that the weather doesn't seem to be following their forecasts.

Which if true, might make these hurricane forcasts - unsure?

It's months out from the start of the hurricane season and more months still before the active part of the cycle begins. Any forecast that far out has a large uncertainty factor. But as a general prediction of what the season will be like Dr. Gray's forecasts have some value.

Just Visiting
Here in South Florida.

There are still thousands of homes with blue tarps on them! Yes, thousands! Visible from the main highways. i95 and the turnpike

On fella was telling us that since they had their last house reroofed they got bumped to the top of the list on the repair of their new house after the Frances-Jeane-Ivan TKO. They have not yet gotten their tiles installed -- The roofer came out shortly after the storm and removed the damaged roof and they STILL have ONLY tar paper on their roof. The roofer said the will be getting tiles next month. They will replace the current tar paper before they lay the tiles.

A neighbor just had the 3' wide stump of a bayan tree cut up and ground down. There was a whole lot of fire wood taken off to the mulching plant in the tree section.

We've already had the house re-roofed but I also notice lots of blue roofs in my area. A co-worker is considering having a metal roof installed rather than having conventional shingles. Does anyone know if these are more practical? I'm actually seeing many new businesses going up in town with metal roofs. (Sorry if I'm taking this off-topic.)

I live in an inland area without heavy industry and have a metal roof which is starting to show signs of rust and needs some paint after about 35 years.

People who live close to the sea and get lost of salt spray usually get tiled roofs because salt makes metal roofs rust quickly.
