Went to vote with Annie, and then took the puppers to the new dog park, came home and checked the mail…WOW! Won a reader contest from GoodReads, and got the paperback version of The Gray Man!

Which is good, because neither Walmart nor City Market have had it in stock for months now.

Also, a jury summons for the US district court in Cheyenne, which is a federal jury. 143 miles one way. Ouch.

On the other hand, $50 a day, $0.625 a mile (because I live more than 10 miles from town), and because I live more than 75 miles out of town, hotel reimbursement of $98 a day (with receipts), and $59 a day for meal per diem.

All I have to do is fill out the paperwork (which can be done online now), and then for the period between December 30th, 2022, and July 7th, 2023, call the Jury Line Fridays after 4 pm to see if I need to appear the following week.

After I serve as a juror, I’m excused for the rest of that six month hitch.

Sounds like fun…

I got called for jury duty for Oct 31-Nov 13th.

My number got called to appear on Nov 2nd. I was only there for about an hour and got excused. (Defendant took a plea deal at the last minute)

Didn't get called this week so I'm done for 2 years. And will get a whopping $18 for my trouble.

Yours is for a lot longer time frame than we get around here! Petit jury is 2 weeks, grand jury is 6 weeks (I think. Might only be 4).

Last time I got called I got stuck serving. I thought for sure I would get dismissed.

it was a case of a drunk commercial driver. I told them I held a CDL since they came out. I drove for 33 years. My entire family is in trucking. I knew more than the lawyers in the case.

When it went to deliberations as soon as the door shut I said GUILTY. The others said we have to discuss this. After I explained everything they said oh yeah guilty. The longest hour I have ever spent.

I've never been selected for jury duty. I fill out the paperwork, go in and IMMEDIATELY get dismissed. Reason: Retired military, brother and brother in-law are LEO's.
Yeah…10 years federal employee, 9 years state employee in…wait for it… CORRECTIONS! Administrator…not officer…

Damn.

In my entire adult life I have been called for jury duty ONCE. I was excused due to the fact that I was a nursing mother at the time. Roughly 30 years ago.

I've probably jinxed myself. LOL
I’ve served on a jury once myself..maybe 30+ years ago. Attempted murder charge…self defense…still took two days to discuss it.

Got it once way back in 1978. Had to go in everyday because they didn’t even have way to call in.

Was selected for one pool but wasn’t picked.

Never had one since

I've been called three times. The first time was years ago and I was excused because I was vital to my business.

The second time, someone at the court house had it in for my boss and every employee who worked in the office was summoned for jury duty...every single one of us. We were all excused immediately but I still can't believe nobody got in trouble for that. My boss held a minor public office at that time and was in the middle of a nasty election that he ended up losing. He was running against a relative of mine. I stayed totally neutral but I don't think either one of them trusted me when it was over lol.

The third time, I couldn't get out of it but never had to serve. They canceled most times or picked someone else. My business was no longer a viable reason not to serve.

Served on a District Case...idiot with a table saw tied the guard back and proceeded to cut part of his hand off. Tried to blame everyone with any connection to the saw and not just realize he learned a hard life lesson. Judge found some grounds to dismiss the case.

Called to do jury duty in local court on a murder case. There was DNA evidence and self condemning words from the perp during a police "interview." Took us about 45 minutes of deliberating to declare him guilty.

Just called for jury duty in Detroit. NOT happy. I'm too old for this. Can't sit or stand long. They don't have a bed for me to lay on. I'm hoping I don't get my number called. Will know Sunday.

Congratulations @SurvivalRing ! that's awesome.

Just got called for jury duty too. This will be my 6th time being called. I've served 4 times already. Had to attend one court case. The notification says "your name was drawn at random".....oh, I don't think so. I know people around my AO that have never been called. I assume there is a check mark next to my name somewhere. smh. Here we have to call in every night to see if we have a case the next day, for 30 days. It gets old real quick.

You must be retired. When you retire, you will start getting more jury summons!

lol, So I thought as well but the fates would have it otherwise. After the trial I asked the ADA "how", he said yea we screwed up, if they didn't toss you, I was suppose to. gee-thanks

I used to get jury summons a lot when I was younger. About 12-15 years back, I served on a really ugly hung jury for a murder trial. The case presented was extremely sloppy, evidence had been moved around in different photos submitted as evidence and the testimony didn't line up at all with the actual reports. It was 2 guys in a hotel room, one stabbed the other, and it was not clear if it was even self defense or manslaughter. Everyone else finally agreed on manslaughter, but there was one woman who insisted that if the perp was arrested he must be guilty of first degree murder. Nobody could change her mind and it got rather intense at times.

I haven't received a jury summons since and hope I never do. I still refer to it as the Jury from he** and will do everything I can to get out of actually sitting on a jury ever again.
