HEALTH Ebola: White House will NOT impose travel restrictions

Please, you don't have to cancel all international flights. That's why we have passports and visas and "No-Fly" lists.
There is no reason why you can disallow citizens of a given nation to fly into this one, regardless of where they are trying to fly in from.

A little harder to screen out citizens of other nations who travelled to Liberia, and now wish to travel to this country, but still not impossible.

seems to me there are folks here that think things will look different for the usa after 6 months of this strain of ebola than they do in liberia and sierra leone where civilization itself is crumbling

not shutting down all non essential intercontinental travel is playing russian roulette

only difference is how many chambers are full

not shutting it down in light of a 21 day incubation period is putting safety in the hands of honesty

This is an actionable case of TREASON by Obama's government. It will eventually result in criminal and civil charges against Obama and his cronies. This will take a while to play out, but there is a direct link between the actions Obama has taken regarding border security since he was elected in 2008.
It is a criminal act to knowingly take actions that will result in either death or injury for people. The charge against Obama will either be negligent manslaughter or negligent homicide.

You can draw a direct line from the specific actions Obama took in gutting border security to the final result of allowing Mr. Duncan into the USA.

Obama FAILED to ban air travel to West Africa. Obama failed to implement medical protocols that may have detected Ebola infected people getting to the USA. Obama FAILED to secure our southern border in particular, allowing thousands of illegal immigrants, many of them with health issues separate from Ebola, to flood into the USA.

Obama is a CRIMINAL AND TRAITOR. He will, as will his liberal cronies, eventually be held accountable in court for the results of his specific actions.

There was a case many years ago somewhere in the Midwest. It involved a school janitor who smelled gas in the basement of the school, but failed to notify authorities of it. The result was an explosion that killed several children. The man was indicted, charged, tried and convicted, for negligent homicide I think. Obama's failure to secure our borders is the same thing as that man failing to take action when he smelled gas. Anybody who dies in the USA from Ebola will do so as a DIRECT RESULT of Obama's failure to secure the USA border and ban flights from West Africa.

Yep, Obama and his crowd will be seen as fools and criminals by future generations of Americans.

Obama’s Plan for Keeping Ebola Out of the U.S.: Monitoring by Flight Attendants and Border Officials

The Obama administration on Wednesday announced that it has asked flight attendants, pilots and border officials to monitor people’s health in an effort to stop others from entering the United States with the Ebola virus, even as some members of Congress are calling for a full travel ban from West African countries.

White House Spokesman Josh Earnest seemed to dismiss the idea that Ebola could spread throughout the U.S., and made no mention of a travel ban in his Wednesday briefing. Instead, he stressed that Ebola can only be transmitted through an exchange of bodily fluids from people showing symptoms of the disease, and said there are several steps being taken to watch for people exhibiting these symptoms.

White House press secretary Josh Earnest said Wednesday that officials are having flight attendants, pilots and border officials watch closely to make sure no one else enters the U.S. with Ebola. (AP Photo/Carolyn Kaster)

“There are protocols in place where those individuals who are leaving West Africa and traveling to the West are screened,” he said. “We’ve also provided guidance to pilots, flight attendants and others who… are sort of responsible for staffing our transportation infrastructure, we’ve given them guidance for monitoring the health and well-being of travelers, to ensure that if they notice individuals who are exhibiting symptoms that seem to be consistent with Ebola, that the proper authorities are notified.”

He also said U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials are watching for people with symptoms as they cross the border.

But by Earnests’s own logic, flight attendants, border officials and others are unlikely to spot anyone carrying the virus if they are not exhibiting symptoms. That makes it possible that more infected people could enter the country in addition to Thomas Duncan in Dallas, an Ebola victim who has created a health emergency that has forced health officials to scramble to ensure the virus does not spread further.

While Duncan entered the country without showing symptoms, he quickly developed them, and health officials are now monitoring dozens of people he contacted to see if they develop symptoms as well. It has also been reported that Duncan was “throwing up all over the place” outside his apartment complex, which could lead to further infections and has led some parents to pull their kids out of school.

Duncan’s case has also revealed flaws in the hospital system that could help the spread of the virus in the United States — the hospital he first visited released Duncan even though some knew he had been in West Africa. Health officials were also monitoring a second patient in Hawaii, who may also have the virus.

The idea that a travel ban would not keep the disease from spreading appears to be based partly on comments from Centers for Disease Control Director Tom Frieden, who said this week there was “zero risk of transmission” on the flight.

But Rep. Ted Poe (R-Texas) on Wednesday wrote a letter to Frieden asking him to recommend a travel ban to the Obama administration, and said the government has the power to impose a travel ban for health-related reasons.

“Fortunately, there is a law already on the books with the very purpose of containing the spread of diseases into our country,” Poe said. “The time to invoke this law to ensure Americans are not exposed to this deadly disease is now, not after the disease is spread even further within our borders.”

The law Poe cited allows the Surgeon General to recommend a travel ban when there is a “serious danger of the introduction” of a communicable disease into the United States.

As of this week, however, a travel ban doesn’t seem to be in the cards. A State Department official told the Washington Post that there are no plans to impose a travel ban.

Youall want to go full on "GOTTA DO SOMETHING!!!!" well, this is what it will mean to YOU.

Your stores may well close.
Your fav eating places, may well close.
Your fav clubs? ABSOLUTELY...closed
Sports games?? No spectators allowed.
Schools? Closed for the duration.
Churches? Closed for the duration.

Visiting mom in the Nursing Home? Not for the duration.
Gramma's on Christmas? Nope.

"But...I got stuck here because I was travelling for my job and now my wife is dying. I HAVE to go home to her!"
"Call her on the phone. You ain't travelling."

Just understand what you are asking for.
And do NOT, by God complain when you GET it.

And YES it will be the ONLY WAY to stop this when it gets rolling.....

ND,

This and your previous post immediately before need some dissection. I don't think anyone has called for all flights from Africa to be halted. By my lights it would make sense to halt flights only from the affected countries. Great Britain and France have already done this. Additionally, nationals of any country who have travelled through the affected countries need to be quarantined before being admitted to the US.

As to restaurants, clubs, stores and holiday plans being interrupted by restricting air travel, I say "Beats 'ell out of dying." As you note, these things will come to pass in any case if an epidemic begins. I believe that such an event has the potential to collapse the already-shakey economy as people shelter in place, alter their shopping patterns and possibly even fear using cash and point-of-sale plastic. Still, in spite of all of these things, it beats 'ell out of dying...

Best regards
Doc

i'm saying it

cut off all non essential travel

we're talking a 50-75% mortality rate

look at your family and friends and think about what losing 50-75% would mean to you

none of us alive in conus have any concept of what a true slatewiper looks like as there hasn't been one anywhere near this lethal in our lifetimes

if this burns out in a month or 2 return to travel as usual

its russian roulette and i don't think that claim is baseless or panicky or hysterical

how did the african villages survive the previous outbreaks that burned out?

it may be worth folks time to study that

Night Driver has a good point........the 1918 Spanish flu caused most public venues to shut down..........in Britain no public entertainment areas were suppose to be opened...........said to my dh who subs at a local H.S........."...smart parents will pull their kids and homeschool........the rest may face quarantined at home with health officials taking blood at each house call...restaurants would be no go (who's fixing that salad???), shopping may be dicey, post offices may stop public services.........transportation, deliveries, doctor offices, etc.........

Drastic measures for sure...........but the alternative is horrible to contemplate.........

this evil regime doesn't care how many die.........they'll just call a recess for the duration IMO....................
