At home, we call this "Live and Learn, get caught in shit, learn faster".

Always keep a BOB or "Get Home" bag in the car, complete with warm clothes, hiking shoes, socks, blankets, warmers, food, shovel, water, sanitation products as well as a survival kit to get you home if on foot.

"Reporters demanding an apology." How about pound sand, "reporter?" Everyone gets butthurt by some snow and ice you didn't prepare yourself for? Really?

I heard Tim Kaine of VP fame with the beast was stuck. If he was on the bus with the hildabeast he would have suicided himself.

I never bother checking the weather, having weather-appropriate clothing or keeping a bag chock full of survival supplies in my car when I can count on others to bail me out. I have a cell phone, what more do I need?

“I’ve never seen anything like it,” Emily Clementson, a truck driver, told NBC Washington. She urged stuck motorists to ask truck drivers if they have food or water to share, since many carry extra supplies in case they get stranded.

Emily Clementson is one of those .... a tweak in the situation and we have ...

“I’ve never seen anything like it,” Emily Clementson, a prepper, told NBC Washington. She urged hungry home owners to ask preppers if they have food or water to share, since many stock extra supplies for their families in case of disaster.

It is one thing for a truck driver to choose to share, it is another for emily to broadcast to all that truckers are prepared and to ask them to meet your needs.

STUPID PEOPLE, your stuck in 12 inches of snow ( or more) take a pop bottle or can. cut the top off several pack with snow and set on the dash. how stupid you gotta be to not even know this simple thing.

around here,Blizzard warnings of heavy snow. empty the stores the day before, stuff shuts down, most businesses close, we get bad storms every year,,

only one you cant help is sudden ice storms,

since im retired, if they say snow, I stay home, but when I worked, I carried everything in my truck, including extremely heavy tire chains I made by cutting down dump truck chains,

you just gotta think.

AND, i would have figured out some way to get a mexican food truck down there, even park on a overpass and send out people on skies pulling a toboggan stacked with food, would have made a fortune.

Saw a write up on coverage of this. Nobody mentioned Northam is still the Governor and is fully responsible for this mess! Not Youngkin. They’re all blaming Youngkin and he’s not governor until the 15th.

They know what they’re doing here too. They’re not stupid. Ok. They’re not THAT stupid.

So many beltway elites with their BMW's , Mercedes 500's etc can't navigate a simple snowstorm which happens almost every year without preplanning for it!
Riggghhhhhttttt!

This country is unprepared for a REAL life threatening CRISIS when it happens..soon!
They'll look to Uncle Suga' to save them...yep, just like in the above videos! :strs:

I heard that too.

Can you imagine being stuck in traffic with Hillary?

No wonder Bill has that deer in the headlights look these days...

DC isn't Iowa or New England. To add to the problem, during weather emergencies like this I remember the Fed making the call; "Only essential personal need to come in." No one wants to be "nonessential" so employees come out of the woodwork to commute in.

Many locals are clueless about driving on snow. I saw one purposely hit a utility pole to stop on an icy hill. Guessing hitting the pole was seen as cheaper than hitting the expensive new cars that lined the street.

FYI, I do live in this region and this kind of issue has happened previously and it is usually the fault of drivers being out on the road with vehicles that can not handle the snow and get stuck and then everyone else around them gets stuck as well. This weather event was not forecasted well, there was a strong chance of snow but nobody forecasted the 15 inches that fell in 5 or 6 hours across central VA into southern MD.

I recorded 14.3 inches at my house and the rain changed to snow at 620am yesterday, well after many people here had already departed to work as if nothing was wrong.

There was rain prior to the snow so VDOT could not treat the roads with chemicals and this was also an issue on many other major highways aside from I95 in VA and also the main routes out of DC going south yesterday. I stayed at home although I can make it in almost any weather, I have had several experiences with others getting stalled out on inclines/hills or elevated roadways.

14.5" of snow in 6 hours is going to gridlock any region unless it's the Midwest where they have gates to block the interstates when they understand it will be awful. Eastern drivers and governments don't operate that way

I always keep one or two plastic Tupperware under my car seat. Used it numerous times. No one looks and I cover with a shirt or small blanket. Throw out the car door, spray with Lysol, wipe down, and put away for next time. How hard is that? I have lots of tissue in my car.

I am here in the bullseye of the storm..in central Virginia. .we ended up with 12 to 13 inches of wet snow ...it rained hard before the rain turned to snow and snowed for about two hours before it started to stick. ..very heavy wet snow..trees down everywhere and wires tangled in them. I didn't have house phone or Internet until a couple of hours ago. It is Wednesday nite and phone and electric went out at 10 am Monday. .we are some of the lucky ones...we have a great genny ...large enough to get water from the well..220..the stove is propane. We heat with wood as we are warm...to make matters worse it went down to 13 on Monday night after the snow stopped and froze everything solid.

We still have no mail or electricity. ..but have been able to find gasoline for the genny... the cell phones have worked. ..but we don't have smart phones..don't have any idea when the power will be back one. Our satellite TV has worked.
Fedex made a delivery today and ups is coming tommorrow per my email

The mess on I-95 was caused by 4, 18 wheelers having an accident. ..and they completely blocked the road..and traffic backed up for miles as the snow poured down. ..it was white out at times
The road crews could not pretreat the roads due to the heavy rain. ..then we had ice under the snow as the rain changed over.
I have no complaints with the guys plowing or the linemen or phone workers..it is a total mess and they are doing an amazing job..get us back to normal. ..prepping does work.
The Democratic governor did nothing. .put the National Guard on standby. .
We have more snow coming tommorrow evening. .I hope it is just a little as the people repairing this are worn out.
