Thought this was interesting as when I travel I never have any idea where the exact "line of time" is. Not sure if it's comforting to know I'm not alone.

A person may take knowing the local time for granted, but an official review revealed that there is no single, accurate map showing the nation’s time zones and local observance of Daylight Saving Time.
Federal transportation officials are now at work creating an accurate map of the nation’s time zones, according to a report by the inspector general for the Department of Transportation.
The issue came up, the inspector general’s office said, after the US Senate passed legislation this year to end the biannual time turn by making Daylight Saving Time permanent.

Investigators found no single map accurately showing the boundaries nationwide and said several sources of time information on the DOT website contained errors, such as inaccurately noting the time practices in some localities. For example, one map incorrectly identifies a deviation in Nevada: “Elko County, NV is shown as the location that changed time zones rather than the correct location, the city of West Wendover.”

“The official boundaries are narratively described [in federal regulations] with various types of coordinates and geographic features such as lines of longitude, State or county lines, and rivers,” the report stated.

Inspector general investigators presented the findings to the Department of Transportation. The department’s top lawyer, John Putnam, responded in a memo that officials are fixing the issues and are “developing an official DOT time zone map.”

The inspector general report said the Transportation Department is responsible for keeping the clock because of the importance of time to travel. It said the original five time zones have expanded to nine.

There's a couple of time zone apps around, maybe more. They seem to have maps . . . . .

Basically there are private maps. This is basically saying there is no official government map that is accurate that encompasses the entire country.

because it isn't necessary

Well...With GIS and MIS and whatnot, this should have already been done privately and adopted by the government. The insulting part here. And I really mean insulting is that this has already been done, someone is trying to justify a whole section of work just so they can lay claim to an I did that accomplishment. I lay you odds this will be a Biden claim that he insisted this get done to clear up confusion...

Arizona is in mountain standard time only half the year. We don't change with daylight saving time. They should at least note that.

Alaska does not do the daylight savings time change but just one clock setting called Alaska time.
Alaska is so far north that durning the winter the day light is so short it seems like night time 24/7 and in summer the days become so long there is not much of a night and you have to coverup the windows to get any sleep.

My phone always knows the local time zone. They should be able to get the maps from Verizon.

On any other week, this could have been cross-posted in Red Baron's Weekend Dance Party. However, this week features songs we loathe, instead of songs we love. Oh well...

Music from my generation, the younger generation have no idea until they hear it on a high end HiFi or live.

I'm always a fan o' busy colourin-book work for the kids... hate to spend the $$ on the nonsense, but they'll be doing that no matter what.

Ahh, the old government-solution-in-search-of-a-problem. This should take years and millions of dollars to resolve, maybe even the creation of an entirely new federal government agency!
