President Donald Trump on Wednesday warned social media companies to stop silencing conservatives on their platforms or face a stiff penalty.

“Republicans feel that Social Media Platforms totally silence conservatives voices,” he wrote. “We will strongly regulate, or close them down, before we can ever allow this to happen.”

The president said that despite attempts by tech companies to stop him from winning in 2016, he still won but warned that the companies would try again in 2020.

“We can’t let a more sophisticated version of that happen again,” he wrote.

Trump commented on social media companies after Twitter on Tuesday branded one of his tweets warning about vote-by-mail fraud with a fact check.

“Just like we can’t let large scale Mail-In Ballots take root in our Country. It would be a free for all on cheating, forgery and the theft of Ballots. Whoever cheated the most would win,” Trump wrote. “Likewise, Social Media. Clean up your act, NOW!!!!”

President Donald Trump on Tuesday accused Twitter of interfering in the 2020 presidential election after branding one of his tweets warning about election fraud “false.”

“Twitter is now interfering in the 2020 Presidential Election,” Trump wrote on Twitter after the company unveiled their new fact check feature on a tweet from earlier in the morning.

Twitter included a link to his tweet urging voters to “get the facts” about mail-in voting after President Trump predicted widespread voter fraud.

“They are saying my statement on Mail-In Ballots, which will lead to massive corruption and fraud, is incorrect, based on fact-checking by Fake News CNN and the Amazon Washington Post,” Trump wrote.

The president hinted that Twitter would face consequences for their actions.

“Twitter is completely stifling FREE SPEECH, and I, as President, will not allow it to happen!” he wrote.

The president has frequently warned tech companies for censoring conservatives on social media and unfairly treating Republicans, but he has also tried to work with Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey.

In April 2019, Trump met with Dorsey to discuss Twitter, thanking him for “keeping an open dialogue” about the platform.

He needs to cut the cord now, not just threaten to. It has been four years on his watch. And take it one step farther- they are domestic enemies, from the CEO down to the one who sweeps the floor. Act accordingly and with the full force of the Constitution.

Revoke the citizenship of every one of them. Cut all of their benefit checks to zero. Pull all the licenses and degrees and any possible way for them to earn a living in that field or any other. Driver's licenses won't be needed either. Freeze the bank accounts and investments. And question them to find out who they are taking orders from.

Now or never.

I am old-school, preferring threaded BBS systems like here, web-sites, and podcasts.

While I scan Twitter and Facebook some, there would be no “love lost” if they went belly-up. As Zuckerberg said himself regarding the users getting their data mined, they are “dumb f’ers”.

I am kind of glad you aren't POTUS. First for YOUR sake in that you would be SO DANG FRUSTRATED when you had the Talk, and the folks explained how much authority you would NOT have.

The full force of the Constitution would pretty much prohibit the second paragraph above. ALL of it.

Sounds like you want a true dictatorship or Benevolent Despot government.

POTUS has NO authority to do ANY of Para 2.

In truth, what DJT is threatening is pushing a law through Congress restricting the freedom of the various platforms to shape their content ideologically. THAT would be an interesting exercise in framing and shaping language.

Not at all. These MONOPOLIES (and thats exactly what they are) are acting like public information conduits. As such, they’re effectively public utilities, and subject to non-censorship regulations.

They were given the protection of a public utility for liable. So for instance you cannot sue the phone company because someone used the phone to say liablous things about you. Because the phone company does not regulate what is said on the phone at all. Well facebook and twitter have decided to regulate what is being said. So they lose the protection. The laws are already in place.

Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act

"Section 230 says that "No provider or user of an interactive computer service shall be treated as the publisher or speaker of any information provided by another information content provider" (47 U.S.C. § 230). In other words, online intermediaries that host or republish speech are protected against a range of laws that might otherwise be used to hold them legally responsible for what others say and do. The protected intermediaries include not only regular Internet Service Providers (ISPs), but also a range of "interactive computer service providers," including basically any online service that publishes third-party content. Though there are important exceptions for certain criminal and intellectual property-based claims, CDA 230 creates a broad protection that has allowed innovation and free speech online to flourish."
