Like your steak 'hot'? This might just be the 'hottest' steak you've ever had. They say it's tested, but we've seen how 'official testing' works........it doesn't.

Fukushima exports 1st beef in 30 months

Oct. 14, 2012 - Updated 15:30 UTC (00:30 JST)

Cattle farmers in Fukushima Prefecture have resumed beef exports to the United States for the first time in 2 and a half years.

Farmers celebrated the shipment of 3 cattle with a ceremony on Sunday. The leader of a local agricultural cooperative said the resumption is a tailwind for Fukushima farmers who have been suffering from the effects of the nuclear accident.

The 3 cattle will be processed in Japan and the meat will be sold to upscale restaurants in the United States.

Exports of Japanese beef to the US were suspended due to an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in southern Japan in 2010. The suspension was lifted in August.

Cattle in Fukushima undergo radiation tests before shipment. But prices of Fukushima beef are 70 to 80 percent of pre-disaster levels.

Livestock farmers hope the resumption of exports will help to erase concerns about radioactive contamination.

Well, they do say they're testing for any radiation before shipment. Second, Japanese beef isn't going to end up mixed in with the bulk hamburger you buy. These are Wagyu and Kobe-level steaks (Japan doesn't exactly have a lot of space for beef cattle farming, so they make up for it by selling only high-end/high profit), and are going pretty much exclusively to high-end restaurants where paying $80 for a steak is par for the course.

Once again I have to ask why the heck we are importing food?? We should be eating our own cattle and produce and seafood! This is sick! I think people should be protesting but we all know that only happens when people are organized by the Gov.

This is considered gourmet food and is imported in VERY small quantity for rich people. This is also the beef that is served at the White House. :)

It all makes perfect sense.... in a bizarro world. We import radioactive metal parts from China while fighting hard to buy their poorest quality garbage which is knock-offs of the technology they stole from greedy business managers who either set up shop in China or allowed their plans to be shopped out. We give money and aid to enemies of the state in the middle east, Pakistan, South America, Africa and even more in Amerika. We have imported from oil cartels, drug cartels and terrorist organizations. A little radioactive food should be on the menu.

Can we fast track that beef to the WH kitchen before February?
