Democrat Senator Dianne Feinstein, 89, is retiring at the end of her term and will not seek reelection in 2024.

The California Senator is retiring after THREE decades in the Senate and more than 50 years in office.

“I am announcing today I will not run for reelection in 2024 but intend to accomplish as much for California as I can through the end of next year when my term ends,” she said in a statement. “Even with a divided Congress, we can still pass bills that will improve lives. Each of us was sent here to solve problems. That’s what I’ve done for the last 30 years, and that’s what I plan to do for the next two years. My thanks to the people of California for allowing me to serve them.”

Democrat Reps. Katie Porter and Adam Schiff have both announced they are running for Feinstein’s senate seat.

NBC News reported:

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., will retire from Congress at the end of 2024 after three decades in the Senate and over 50 years in public office, she announced in a statement Tuesday.

“I am announcing today I will not run for reelection in 2024 but intend to accomplish as much for California as I can through the end of next year when my term ends,” Feinstein said.

Feinstein, 89, is currently the oldest sitting member of the upper chamber and the longest-serving senator from her state, first elected to the Senate in 1992.

A number of House Democrats have either announced a 2024 campaign bid for her job, including Reps. Katie Porter and Adam Schiff. Rep. Barbara Lee has also expressed interest in the race.

She and Nancy are examples of what can happen to people who get into power and stay there way too long. I used to wonder what happened to the two very polite and seemingly lovely ladies who would call me about constituent cases when I worked at the US attorney's office. This was perfectly normal. Many politicians did this (I think they were both still in the House, but I don't remember 1989-1990). I ended up talking to many well-known people in that job, often because I had to do the first security checks, and some applicants had been law clerks for Supreme Court Justices and the like. They were always nice and polite and never gave a bad reference (I'm not surprised).

Anyway, I mentioned this once in one of the non-public areas of the forum, and one person gave me the perfect answer. What happened was Power and the Love of Power (and probably money). I also know now that Nancy is at least from an old California wine and political family (I don't know about Finestein). I watched them go from reasonable young, seemingly idealistic politicians when I lived in California to a fading old woman who didn't know when to leave the building (Feinstein) and a power-hungry, ego-tripping maniac on the other.

It has been an open secret even in the mainstream Media that Feinstein has been forgetting people in the middle of conservation, can't recall what the topic is being discussed, pretty much a sad but gentle decline that many people experience in late old age. That was going on before she ran for her most recent term. If you include Biden, they are living examples of why it may be time to put either an age limit or a term limit (maybe 40 years) on any one person who can serve in Congress (Biden in the Senate).

With a long but reasonable time limit, they can serve. A person starting young and doing a good job could remain, yet an energic 80-year-old could still run for the first time; if they were that popular, especially if they were on a mission and pledged to step down after one term.

I think the limit should be tied to the same standard as the military. If you're going to have a top end limit then it would be a minimum of 20 years to EARN retirement and a max of 30 years allowed to serve....AND....you're out at 65.....PERIOD!! None of this ONE AND DONE and then on the congressional retirement payroll for the rest of their lives.

As far as Feinstein retiring.......:eleph:

I also think their pay should be locked and linked to the national Gross Domestic Product. To make sure they are working for US.

I'm open to any number of term limit suggestions. I don't want to completely rule out older people who are competent and perhaps are running because some cause or another is part of their legacy. I also had the good luck of living near one University Town in High School and then attending another University (University of Southern Mississippi) when they still had live speakers.

I saw several excellent, competent, and energetic people speak more than once who were ninety or over. They were not politicians, but the lecture circuit in those days was not for the lazy or tired. I don't think that many people should be in politics or positions of high leadership after 85 (with exceptions for advisory roles, we need wise old sages, both men and women). But Louis Leaky, Buckminster Fuller, and a couple of the other elderly people I saw perform 2 to 3-hour lectures with questions afterwords; they probably could have served one term in congress. Though I suspect they preferred teaching and lecturing. Leaky died about two years after I saw him, which is another thing to remember. Corrie Tim Boom was somewhat younger but lived at least two more decades after I saw her.

Adam Schiff has already announced he is running for her seat.
Based on how far left the most liberal state will continue to live shifty sh*t.

But the actual candidate will be the one most connected to the top elites who have been running thing’s forever

However, moments later, Feinstein disputed her office’s statement on her retirement.

“I haven’t made that decision. I haven’t released anything,” Feinstein said to reporters.

“We put out the statement,” one of the senator’s staffers said.

“You put out the statement? I didn’t know they put it out,” Feinstein said.

Feinstein’s retirement comes amid reports that her cognitive decline is so bad that she recently became angry with staffers who were trying to debrief her on the stopgap funding bill.

Last year the San Francisco Chronicle reported Feinstein is in such bad shape that her own Democrat colleagues want her to retire before her term expires at the end of 2024.

The California Senator will be 91 years old when her term expires at the end of 2024.

Democrat Reps. Katie Porter and Adam Schiff have both announced they are running for Feinstein’s senate seat.

Clearly she got to thinking...if Fetterman can be a senator...and Biden can be president...heck, why not give it another go at 90...

This sounds like a job for STAND IN.

Paging STAND IN - we have a job for you which will spare the Democrats of the embarrassment of an actual election.

Keep up the APPEARANCE of actual representation - while doing what the Marxists want.

Yunno. Someone who looks, talks, and maybe even acts like Diane.

This is not new ground. Joe Biden has been doing this for YEARS now.

And the Fetterman potato is the same except news of his impairment got out before the MEEDIA could quash it.

Don't want no nasty election where the Kari Lakes of the opposition can make claims that are TOO supported and run the risk of a judicial fumble across the finish line.

Another case of unelected staffers running the office and making the decisions for a gork...just like Biden and our Presidency.
She has that same vacant pea-eyed look that Biden has, and same as my mom had....with advanced Alzheimers.
