You can use any corn for cornmeal if its dry enough- sweetcorn meal is incredible. But yes, the commercial stuff is *dent* field corn. Old timers had preferred varieties... I think one was a white corn called ?Old Hickory? ... can't remember exactly.Is it field corn that they grind up to make corn meal?

I think seed corn is tinted red isn't it ?just make sure you never get involved in bulk/bag seed corn - heavy in chemical treat these days - it'll take down livestock and anything smaller that gets a stomach full ...
