Misc Coconut Oil

Some years ago I bought 4 gallons of really good oil. I've subsequently acquired small containers so as not to have to open the gallon containers. I use coconut cream powder in my coffee and we cook with it exclusively, no seed oils ever. I use a refined oil "Louana" to cook with.

Other than cooking with it and injesting it I don't really know how to use it for all the things listed. Maybe I have a book around here about it. I forgot about using it for oil pulling in your mouth.

Most things on the list appear to involve consuming it. But I use it often topically: slather it on my feet & put dh's white cotton socks on overnight; moisturizer of all kinds; hair conditioner; deodorant.

I dislike getting it in my eyes, though I'm sure it's good for something there, also! :)

I've added essential oils (mints & eucalyptus) to make Vicks.

Good to know. What I had tried was solid in a jar (at room temp) Used it in baking and had coconut taste.

It is always solid at room temp (which is confusing; calling it an "oil"). But if you buy the deodorized type, it won't have any coconut taste or smell. It's like Crisco, basically... the healthy, original version!

I don't know whether to laugh or cry... my mom was one of the original health nuts... Adele Davis fan, but also very influenced by the "standard advice " in terms of eating whole grains rather than bleached, white flour... but also believed saturated fats were poison, but used tons of Crisco in her frequent baking. She avoided coconut oil the most vigorously of all. When she discovered it was in "soft serve" ice cream, which we loved as an occasional treat, we were never allowed to eat it again.

She blended butter with sunflower oil (made it spreadable and you could keep it at cool room temp for a few days)... because "it was healthier "...

BUT! She avoided margarine like the plague!

She also thought too much sugar was deadly, and I can't say she's wrong! But when my dad was sinking into deep alzheimers, she wouldn't bake cookies or anything, because "it's not good for him". Practically the first thing he'd say to me when they visited was "do you have any cookies?". She also cut him off coffee because "it's unhealthy " Turns out... it actually helps slow down the progression of alzheimers!

I use MCI oil in my coffee - no taste. Good for brain. I cannot stand the taste of coconut despite its many health benefits. So no coconut oil in my cooking.
MCT oil will be just fine. I have no issue with the taste of coconut, except that I like it. Some folks just don't though.

I was a fan of Adele Davis too, although never a big bread eater, I have loved Ezekiel bread, have a couple of loaves in the freezer. I may have a slice on a rare occasion but not often. I'm staying away from grains.

AD had a recipe for infant formula that we did for our youngest son for the first several months. This was before powdered or liquid supplements so ex had to crush them daily for his formula. To this day he's very healthy and so is his brother.
