1st Aid clove oil for toothache

Many years ago when I had a tooth removed, I developed dry socket. I called the oral surgeon and told him I was in a lot of pain. He had me come in, and in the socket he put some gauze that was infused with clove oil. Within 10 minutes the pain was completely gone.
So I've always kept some clove oil in the 1st aid supplies. I decided I should refresh my supply of clove oil, and I see warnings all over the place "not for internal use" and "not proven to work on tooth aches".
I assume this is just typical nanny state overreach, but is there anything to the warnings? Obviously, I know it worked for me.

It's nanny state stuff, mostly because some people are idiots. The biggest issue is some people use it, thinking they are actually solving the problem, when all it does is numb the pain. If there is an abscess (and 90%or better of throbbing toothaches are due to an abscess ) the infection can keep spreading, and cause septicemia or even a brain infection (especially top teeth)

I've *temporarily * treated abcesses/tooth pain with clove oil rubbed on the gum, and dabbed into any hole in the tooth with a cotton swab, PLUS an antibiotic. For most people. Amoxicillin or even plain oral penicillin works fine.

This essentially buys time until you can get into a dentist, or save up the money for treatment. It's NOT a permanent fix, although it can last months to years before it comes back.

Clove oil is strong, and could probably irritate or burn delicate tissues (don't get it near your eyes!), but it's been used safely for decades, or longer.

Good luck finding clove oil in the chain pharmacies. Order it on Amazon so you have a small bottle in your supplies when your tooth is temporarily painful.

I've used it safely for years as a stop gap measure, until I could get in to see my dentist.

I too keep clove oil on hand in my first aid kit. Dental emergencies never occur at a good time and it helps tremendously until you can see your dentist. Everything is riddled with warning labels. I say they should do away with the warnings and let nature deal with the idiots who don't have an ounce of common sense.
